Lavinia watched mesmerized as Casey’s hands shifted and flowed, moving playing cards through a series of finger motions.
Lavinia distrusted witches, but magicians were harmless. She just didn’t expect Casey to be one. The quick movements of the deck, splitting and shuffling in Casey’s hand and then shifting to her other hand, fascinated her.
“Do you have the card you chose in mind?” Casey said enigmatically, not looking at the movements of her hands.
Lavinia nodded.
Casey’s hands stopped and she fanned the deck in her hands, one card was face up. “Is it this one?” She plucked it from its place in the fan.
Lavinia laughed. “Bravo!” She clapped. She had been watching so closely and couldn’t tell how Casey had done it. “You’re so go-”
Her phone began chiming, the alarm that was set going off.
“Ah.” Casey placed the cards on the couch beside her. “Well, I guess we’ll have to finish our magic show later.”
