Chapitre 550: I'm afraid [2]

"Roar!!"

The infected also followed closely behind, emerging from the gaps on both sides, howling horribly as if they had no intention of letting them escape.

Everyone rushed towards the armored Humvee, but George took a quicker step and climbed onto the rear where a heavy machine gun rested.

"Die!"

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The powerful rounds tore through the bodies of all the advancing undead, creating space for the others to get into the vehicle.

Airon was the last to climb in, slamming the door shut and letting out a sigh of relief upon seeing that everyone was safe.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Just a second after he closed the door, it was violently impacted, and the iron door trembled slightly as if it was about to be shaken.

Almost instinctively, everyone held onto the armored doors as if fearing that these walkers would enter.

However, their concerns were obviously unnecessary. After the iron door had been struck for more than ten seconds, the movement outside gradually subsided, and the sharp roar turned into a low growl.

Hoo.. Hoo..

Seeing that the crisis had passed, only the panting of a few people and George's gunfire could be heard. Some others were too nervous, realizing that they could have died.

"Huh... Gild died!" Said Victor with a reluctant expression.

George stood at the back, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, and noticed more walkers approaching. "More are coming!"

"Let's get out of this damn town!" Airon said with a cold expression.

...

Airon and the others, along with the girl they had saved from the town, cautiously advanced through the dark and desolate streets. The atmosphere was oppressive, filled with a palpable darkness that seemed to envelop them in a chilling embrace. Their conversation inevitably turned somber.

"This place gives me chills... There are crazies lurking in every corner of this stupid, damned town." Murmured Daryl, his voice barely audible amidst the eerie silence. "I can't help but feel like something dark and evil is lurking around every corner."

Victor nodded solemnly, his face marked with concern. "I agree. I haven't seen such a terrifying place in a long time. We can't let our guard down. Gild died because of that..."

Amidst their unease, George, who led the group, caught the attention of the others. "Be careful," he warned in a tense whisper. "Something is approaching."

"What is it?" Airon asked as his gaze turned to the right when the Humvee crossed the street. But upon seeing the approaching headlights, Airon shouted, "Hold on!"

With no time to react, a huge truck collided with them, sending them flying through the air. Their bodies crashed violently onto the ground, leaving everyone dazed and sore.

The impact of the truck was devastating. Airon, Daryl, Victor, George, and the girl were thrown around with brutal force, leaving their bodies battered and disoriented. The vehicle they had used for cover and transportation lay destroyed, completely unusable.

Sharp pain spread through every corner of their bodies as they struggled to get back on their feet. Airon noticed his trembling limbs and labored breathing. The impact had left its mark on his abdomen, and he realized that recovery would neither be quick nor easy.

Daryl, with his wounded and bleeding arm, leaned against a nearby wall to stay upright. "Damn, this has left us in a really bad state."

"How are you all doing?"

"Cough!"

Victor, staggering while clutching his bloody side, nodded with a somber expression. "I'm okay... We'll need time to recover, but we can't afford to stay here for long."

George, struggling to stand due to a leg injury, leaned on his makeshift cane. "We have to find a safe place to rest and heal," he said in a hoarse voice.

"We can't continue in this condition."

Airon, despite his own pain, tried to maintain calm and determination. "We can't give up," he reminded them with a serene voice. "We'll find shelter, but you three need to move quickly."

"And what about you?"

Cautiously and slowly, the group moved away from the accident site, struggling due to their injuries. Every step was a test of perseverance and inner strength.

The road to recovery would be long and arduous, but Airon and the others refused to be defeated. Together, they would seek a safe place where they could heal and regain their strength before continuing their fight for survival.

With each step, with each determined gaze, they remembered that their resilience and unity were their greatest strengths. No matter how long it took to recover, they were willing to face any obstacle with courage and hope in their hearts.

"I'll cover you. Get in touch with our forces, they shouldn't be far," Airon said while holding a light machine gun.

Daryl nodded, seeing the resolute eyes of Airon. He knew of this man's capabilities and considered leaving the injured in a safe place to help Airon later.

Disoriented but determined, Daryl and the others stood up, facing a new challenge. The sound of gunfire filled the air, and bullets whizzed dangerously close to them.

"Damn it!" exclaimed Airon as he crawled to take cover behind an overturned vehicle.

Despite their injuries and the prevailing chaos, Airon firmly held his machine gun and positioned himself to attack.

The walkers, drawn by the gunfire, lunged at their attackers, creating a distraction that Daryl and the others took advantage of to escape. Although some members of the group were severely injured, the survival instinct propelled them forward.

As they moved away from the scene, the noise of gunfire slowly faded, leaving behind the imminent danger. They breathed a sigh of relief but also felt the sadness and anguish of having lost some of their own in the confrontation.

"We have to contact reinforcements!"
