After dinner, night slowly came and it was time to sleep. At this time, Airon did not return to the modified RV where he originally slept with the others, but instead lay down on a bed in a house. Next to him was a female figure, which was Alicia . Since meeting and then surviving together, the two have gradually gotten along better and became much closer since arriving in Alexandria.
Without much thought about what this meant, the two let what they really wanted to keep its course.
"I have something very important to discuss with Deanna."
"Do you need me to come with you?"
Airon shook his head and explained in a soft voice, "No need, I'll just talk about the organization that will take this place for the future."
Alicia didn't speak, her intuition told her that Airon wasn't telling the truth, but since he didn't intend to share, she didn't ask too much and smiled slightly.
"Okay, since I don't know how long you'll be, I'll go to sleep first, I'm sleepy..."
Saying this, Alicia lay down on the bed and closed her eyes after saying goodnight, while Airon standing at the sale with an emotionless expression, picked up his coat and left the room after giving Alicia a glance.
But by the time he gently closed the door, Alicia had already opened her eyes. At this point, she didn't seem to have the intention of sleeping, so she picked up her coat and gun before walking out of the room.
Airon by then had left the house a long time ago, so Alicia looked around with a discerning eye, at night the shelter seemed to be completely dark, which made her look at Deanna's house from a distance.
Some time later Alicia followed closely, knowing that her boyfriend was a very attentive man, so instead of approaching the entrance, she looked out the window and saw Airon walking towards the living room on the other side, while Deanna and her husband Monroe were sitting side by side in front of him.
After some hesitation, she walked to the window closest to the living room and pulled out a device she had had with her for some time to listen more clearly to distant conversations.
Inserting the device through the window that was open, after leaving it there, she left this place in extreme silence and put on the headphones so that she could listen to the conversation. Since her relationship with Airon grew closer, she knew he was hiding things from her so she wouldn't worry, which really bothered her.
She didn't need him to take care of her, what she really wanted was to help him protect and preserve their future together. And as expected, she heard Airon's voice coming from the headset.
She had seen Airon many times working on things didn't understand, personally training people as if he was concerned about more than just surviving walkers. And when she saw the weaponry his people were taking to Atlanta, she knew there was something Airon was hiding.
Sometimes women's intuition is very accurate, they don't need to know precise information, but they can sense that something is wrong. In addition, Airon always knew that Alicia was not someone who likes to feel pressure about what they expect from her, being greatly mistaken about what Alicia could bring to him.
In fact, Alicia had also understood that Airon was doing it to protect her, but this feeling of not doing anything to support him really bothered her, so since arriving in Alexandria she had watched Airon a lot, which led her to eavesdrop.
Alicia quickly repressed the nervous feeling of doing something that shouldn't be burning for the first time and began to listen intently to the conversation of several people in the earpiece.
Airon said, "Since that's what you want, I won't play with hard-to-understand words in front of the two of you. It's very important this conversation that we'll have, but before we talk about it... I want to share with you the current problem of Alexandria."
Deanna: "Airon, Monroe and I already know your skills very well, you can share with us what you have in mind without worries."
Airon: "It's simple, your people especially have divided into two groups, some are those who have a close relationship with us and others who secretly question us. This is a conflict that causes me annoyance and will bring us sooner or later a bigger problem."
"In short, the community is completely divided into two parts which will generate a conflict of interest over who stays and who goes or a dispute breaks out between the two sides. To be honest, the initiative in both cases is in our hands. If we don't want to leave, these people may not have the ability to fight us, so I hope these two situations don't happen."
"You said to go slow with them but that's not something they really need. In my opinion, the best way is to let all these people see the reality. I think the more than thirty people who joined the community training are not stupid. Since they can see the reality, naturally, they will make the right choice."
Monroe: "What will happen to the few people who don't want to change, Airon?"
Airon: "That's simple Monroe, these people will have to obey the decisions I make from now on, but do you know what will happen if they don't? They will be eliminated from this world. When more than forty of the fifty people decide to change, the rest will also be forced to change, but this change is passive, and it depends on themselves if they can really adapt to this world."
After a long silence, Deanna's voice came out of Alicia 's earpiece again.
"Airon, we'll talk about that later, can we talk about the other thing you haven't shared with us?"
Airon was silent for a while, and after organizing his thoughts he said, "Alright, this situation is going to be a little complicated to assimilate so let me tell you what we are now."
"This goes back over a month ago. An Exploration group was exploring further than we had originally traveled, in addition to undead some survivors were found. At the time I was in Texas helping a group escape from the military base. But from the words of my soldiers, they discovered that a helicopter was descending in a very strange area with a rather odd symbol printed on the helicopter they were flying."
The voices coming from Alicia 's headset were silent for a moment. It should be Airon who was thinking of the best way to explain this, so he then listened to her words.
"At that moment the soldiers wondered what those people were. One of those people was eliminating the walkers when a group of survivors stood in front of them, but their next decisions surprised the scouting squad who witnessed the killing of those people who were only looking for help. Furious, my people ended up eliminating that group of people but one was left alive and we learned many things about them and where they came from."
"Is it serious?"
"Something much more than that Deanna..."
Airon and Deanna's voices sounded at the same time so Airon clarified once again, "I need you to keep this strictly confidential! Very few in my community know about this, do you think you can?"
Deanna looked at her husband and they both nodded, "Of course we can."
Airon said, "After not very long torture, the other party belongs to an organization no weaker than my S.C.T called the Military Civic Republic. Also known as a CRM. It is a community where the survivors in the future will amount to over 200,000 people."
Not only Deanna and the two showed looks of astonishment, and even Alicia outside covered her mouth with her hand to avoid speaking.
"What, 200,000 people?"
Airon scoffed wryly and said, "Isn't that amazing? My community barely numbers 20,000 and we think we're the strongest in this country. But the frightening thing about this organization is that its goals are unknown even to its own people."
"Just like my community, the social order has been restored. This organization has the capacity for pharmaceutical production, military industry, agriculture and heavy as well as light industry. In addition to their exponential growth, they also own schools, courts and other institutions."
"As far as my people know, it is possible that this organization has its forces distributed from Chicago to New York, all along the coast. Bases have been secretly established which have brought together talented people. Even now I dare not say that my community is stronger, so I am hesitating whether we are stronger or weaker at the moment."
"The CRM's policy is very blunt, they only focus on gathering talented people but their targets are later. They will only cooperate with forces they recognize. Once some small settlements know their situation, they will be quickly eradicated by the other side."
"If a community with growth potential jeopardizes their dominance, they will also be destroyed. Now, what do you think will happen to my community if we clash with the CRM? Yes, there will be a war where one of us ends up dominating this country".
"There should be a way out, there's always a way out in cases like these..."
Airon sighed and said, "You think that's all I've figured out?"
Deanna: "What else?"
Airon paused and pointed out, "My people are growing and preparing for whatever they have to face, besides the CRM we have discovered other large settlements."
Monroe was surprised and asked, "Are there more shelters?"
"Sure, there is an organization called Commonwealth which is another settlement where it is estimated that we may have over 30,000 people, their organization is good but they are just the people together trying to survive, they have internal problems, system flaws. I was informed that to the west that there is a community with tens of thousands of people and countless survivors elsewhere."
The room fell into a dead silence, so Monroe, Deanna's husband, asked, "Airon, I think there must be an important reason for you to tell us this secretive information about your people, don't you think we can contribute something?"
Airon smiled and said with sincerity, "I am not a good person in the true sense of justice. I have killed many people, sometimes for safety and sometimes more to defend my ideals. Many know I don't care about anything but defending what's mine and those I care about, so at least with the CRM I won't seek peace or let them walk all over me Deanna."
Deanna was silent for a moment and remarked, "With those words you are making me stay a part of your family, Airon."
"You may not understand, but in my eyes you two are my friends and part of my family, because during the time I knew you you made me see that there are still good people in the world, but if we want to move on we must not be good people. Originally, I didn't intend to tell this matter, but since I met you, I gradually got an idea, which led to today's conversation Deanna."
"So what do you want to do?"
"I want to integrate these organizations as soon as possible, I know it will be very difficult and I may have to resort to less than good resources, but I want you to be the voice of my decisions."
"What do you mean?"
"It's simple, I need both of you to be able to go to the Commonwealth."
"Why Commonwealth and not CRM?" Didn't you say CRM is a bigger community? Two hundred thousand people, right?"
Airon pointed out, "Because I don't want them to find out about my organization, it's not time yet. The CRM will eliminate all organizations that threaten it, and they will secretly use various methods to bring special people into their safe haven, so I hope you will join the Commonwealth and not the CRM."
Moroe said, "I understand it is for our safety, but I still have to ask you something, what is the purpose of joining them covertly?"
Airon explained, "You are not considered a covert, you don't need to do anything special, as long as you develop well in that place, it would be ideal if you gradually develop authority."
Deanna then said, "I understand, you are looking for us to have authority in that place so that the merger with your people will be more stable, but will it really do?"
Airon smiled and asked, "You have known my people for over a month, what kind of person do you think I am?"
Deanna replied, "You are brave, someone wise who cares for his people and ruthless to his enemies. You were a very good leader. In many ways, I don't share my same leadership skills with yours."
Airon shook his head and said, "No Deanna, you lack experience but you can become as good at leading as I am. You are a woman of foresight, purpose and determination, and your political sense is very sensitive. Your husband, Monroe, is someone excellent in architecture. Both talents meet many of the Commonwealth's needs, even if they have a lot of people in their ranks they need management talents, so I want you to go there."
"Actually, at first I thought about going alone, but I thought about it over and over again and felt I can't waste my time that way, we must have stable and growing bases so my absence would cause a lot of delays."
"Deanna, Monroe, I trust your abilities and I hope you trust me, I will form a powerful force and spread throughout Atlanta, which would mean you would have a powerful force behind you when the time comes. When the time is right, we will work together to form a larger survivor base and bring everyone together. Eliminating the undead and rebuilding civilization, this is our ultimate goal, isn't it?"
"Even if you fail to gain a foothold there, I can still be another option for you. At that time, I will find a way to pick you up, when that time comes we will know them well, but the Commonwealth will not know us, isn't that a good thing?"
"But within all of this there is another reason that is much more important and why I believe you will succeed."
Deanna became interested and asked, "There are other reasons?"
Airon nodded and said, "I remember you were a congresswoman from Ohio, right?"
Deanna nodded and said, "That's right."
Airon then explained, "As far as I know, the Commonwealth predominates in the middle of Ohio, and I would venture to guess that they might have some power within that place due to the fact that there will be people you know before the end of the world. That is your advantage..."
"The settlements are too sharp, many times there will be a life and death choice. At this point, can you still use the democracy you call to solve the problem?"
"The Commonwealth is not the case. The hierarchy of your system is very strict, and everyone's social hierarchy is assigned according to the work of the survivors before the end of the world, but this is exactly to your advantage, I think you can find a place there and can also make a difference. Do you want to live in a small settlement in fear for the rest of your life? Worried about the danger that may appear at any moment, Alexandria is too small for you, Deanna."
"I believe that as long as we little people stick together, we can rebuild civilization. Don't you want to leave your name in the history of rebuilding civilization? The great woman, Deanna Monroe who helps bring larger communities together."
"Please keep me from having to resort to force, we will not be the enemy, the CRM is our enemy and there will come a time when we will clash. There should not be two forces deciding the future of humans, that is a very stupid decision."
