Sage’s eyes struggled to open, her head pounding with a massive headache. She groaned. Her whole body ached.
“Hey,” a voice said. “Helena, she’s awake.”
There was a shuffling of feet as someone approached.
“Hey, chia,” she heard her mother’s voice.
Sage forced her eyes open, but it took a moment for her vision to clear, the room spinning. She was laying down on a bed, though she didn’t recognize the room.
On her right, her mother sat on the edge of the bed, grasping her hand tightly. To her left sat Caspian. He smiled at her.
“Hi,” she said at him.
“Hi,” he grinned. “How are you feeling?”
“I’ve been better,” she murmured.
She pushed herself to sit up, her side sore. Her mother helped her up, placing pillows behind her for support.
Sage looked around the room. It was a small bedroom, plain with just a bed and dresser. On the far end of the room was a window where morning light poured in.
