Sage’s head pounded as she opened her eyes. She was in her room, her candle lit and the curtains drawn closed. She glanced at the vanity where Nikolas sat with his eyes closed.
The events of combat class same back to her, making her sit up abruptly. Nikolas stirred.
“You okay?” he asked. He magicked a glass of water from thin air and handed it to her. She took it and drank slowly.
“I need to find Caspian,” she told him, setting the water aside.
“Sage, you just fainted in the hall. I think you should rest,” he told her. His face had concern etched into it. Sage felt irritated he was choosing now to become invested in her life again after being MIA for a while.
“Nikolas,” she said, using his full name. “I need to find Caspian.”
“Fine,” Nikolas grumbled. “If you faint again, I’m not carrying you back.”
