Chapitre 81: Sage Art
Finally, Natsume turned her attention to the senjutsu section. Since Zetsu was born of Kaguya's will, she didn't think the seal would affect him. If there was anything that could interrupt his plans, it would be either lost in time, or in the first section. The senjutsu knowledge was fortunately the most complete. The introductory section contained some simple breathing techniques in order to absorb Nature energy quickly in any environment.
After quickly memorizing the five breathing techniques, she practiced them and understood their principle very easily. If it were before, she may have struggled, but since she could now see through the grey fog of Nature energy, she noticed that each technique was specialized for one of the colors of energy. Natsume guessed that each region in the world had a different distribution of these colored Nature energy strands.
The next chapter of the senjutsu section was theological. The sage who wrote this shared their insights and knowledge about Nature energy. The sage believed that Nature energy was a gift from the world to the living creatures but was also reliant on the living beings. The world possessed places where Nature energy of the planet converged and burst out from. Many of these places were associated with a hidden sage region, while others had powerful animals or ancient plants.
The last section of this chapter made her gasp. It was a crudely drawn map of the shinobi continent. Natsume always wondered why everything was always concentrated on this small continent and seeing the vein-like structure drawn on the map she understood. Along the vein were points marked where the Nature energy erupted. Natsume took out a modern map of the shinobi world and transferred the markings onto it. Looking at the positioning, she found that one of the areas corresponded with Mount Kakazan.
Then she placed her finger on the unnamed peninsula north of the land of fire. There was a spot near the edge of the peninsula that Natsume knew of from her memories. This was the hiding place of Madara after faking his death. Not only that, but it was also one of the many secret White Zetsu cultivation areas. Looking at the thirty-two locations around the continent, Natsume felt a chill down her spine.
'Is this what Zetsu was seeking? Perhaps he knew about these regions long before but needed to destroy the evidence of their existence to hide his army...' Natsume thought. The vein started and ended in the shinobi continent. Even the barren desert of the Land of Wind had two locations. The land of fire occupied twelve of the points!
The final location in the far north is Mount Kakazan. Since one of the wells is occupied by a sage land, then it's reasonable to guess that all of the sage lands occupy one also. If she investigated each region, she could confirm the progress of the White Zetsu army and find the other sage regions. This was a huge find and she almost forgot about the remaining chapter of the senjutsu knowledge.
Natsume quickly destroyed the modified map after memorizing it, fearing for the worst. Then, she went to the last entry and read the contents. It was a technique without a name, but it required being able to enter sage mode to use. The technique didn't seem to be specifically related to Monkey Senjutsu after she read the details of it. The author was intrigued by the petrification effect of Nature energy and developed a set of palm strikes that drove large quantities of Nature energy into the target.
The number of strikes needed was determined by the strength of the target. Since they were not naturally bringing Nature energy into their own body, it would slowly be forced out by the user's chakra. Therefore, this technique required speed, precision, and relentless strikes. This reminded Natsume of the Hyuuga's gentle fist technique.
Fortunately, the author realized that using your own Nature energy as the source would be counterproductive. Instead, the user only needed a small amount of their own Nature energy to stimulate the surrounding Nature energy to follow. The technique would then be stronger in places with dense Nature energy, and weaker in those without. Natsume spent the rest of the night memorizing the moves while practicing them in the cave. There were twelve primary moves which targeted the main chakra points and then hundreds of follow-up strikes.
"I see, the main purpose of the technique is to disable their chakra flow. In a way, this really is like the Gentle Fist technique."
As light began pouring down from behind the thick cloud cover, Natsume realized it was day already. She wiped her sweat and had a meal before leaving. She continuously played back the various moves in her head and tried to apply them in combat. The technique was described in a theoretical sense, learning all the moves as a whole, but would need the user to apply the strikes using their combat abilities. Dancing through the technique from start to finish would only make the user look like a fool.
"Sage Art: Petrifying Fist." Natsume mumbled a name for the technique while eating. Since the technique was very similar to the Hyuuga's secret taijutsu, she made a note to herself to study it in the future. Whether they would be willing to teach her… that wasn't an issue.
Although the sage art did not include a comprehensive fighting technique associated with the strikes, Natsume could derive some of the moves and apply them to her fighting style. Since the moves were designed to target major and minor chakra points, mixing them in with the taijutsu she had learned would increase her lethality during this time period of being sealed.
After she finished eating, Natsume traveled further north until she detected a village at the base of the mountain. There were no powerful chakra signatures in the village, so she decided to descend to the nearby road and approach as a traveler.
