Silas didn’t say much after I admitted that I, too, am a shifter. Of course, he was stunned by the revelation, but what else could he say?

He did inform me that being born a female shifter was uncommon and that there hadn’t been one born in his generation. There wasn’t one in Tanner’s either. Usually, the females were born without the gift of changing, but some of the magic lingered in their blood. The females still aged slowly and healed quickly.

When we got to the dorm, he got out of the car and walked beside me. Again, we remained silent, but there was this nagging feeling that he might want to know more, and I really couldn’t give him much more.

Our footsteps echoed along the corridor, which made the silence heavier somehow. When we finally reached my door, I felt as if I had sprinted down the hall. My lungs worked faster from the anxiety. It felt as though my world was crashing down. I knew Grams wouldn’t want to leave, but we might not have a choice.
