Chapitre 82: Eighty two

"You want a drink?" Uche whispered in my ear where we sat by a corner. The music was loud and the lights were so dim, I felt blind.

I nodded and he kissed my chin briefly before going to get drinks for us. I sat looking around, trying to identify the people dancing and making out in room but my eyes hadn't yet adjusted to the lights.

"Julie!" April shook me from behind. She walked around the chair and sat next to me, right where Uche was sitting before he left.

"Didn't think you'd come to the party?" She laughed weirdly, but I didn't. I began looking around to see if Uche was in his way back to where I was."What, you don't wanna talk?"

"I don't," I said honestly, my first words to her. She frowned. I could see her frown; my eyes had adopted the dim lights.

"You think you're some celebrity. You ain't shit..." She snapped but paused,"Sorry, I just..."She laughed again like she didn't just insult me.

"Uche!" Her smile reached her ears when she called. I turned to see him standing with two drinks in hand; a beer and glass of punch that had a straw.

She went and hugged him. Uche eyes fixed on me the moment she did, like to apologize. I rolled my eyes.

"Aww, I miss you so much," She didn't let go of him."I asked Nick why you haven't been in school for the past week but he won't say. And I texted you, you haven't even replied." She pouted, hugging him tighter.

"April, hold on," Uche told her while separating himself from the hug.

"Whyyyyy," she hugged him again.

I got mad and got on my feet to leave. I didn't want to sit there and watch all that.

"Julie," Uche called to stop me. He freed himself from her and came to me with the drinks."Let me get rid of her, don't go." He said and gave the punch to me.

I took a sip of it and stared at him disapprovingly."I'm sorry," He mouthed and went back to where she stood.

"Is it true?" April asked him and he gave her a confused look.

"Is what true?"

"My girls, they think you're dating Julie. Is it true?" She folded her arms as she asked. Uche turned his neck to me so I sipped some more of my drink and looked in front of me like I couldn't hear them. I wanted to know what he'd tell her.

"We're just hanging out," I heard him say.

"When you say hanging out, do you mean hanging out with your bro's cousin or you mean fucking her hanging out?"

"Here you are," Some guy from our class hugged her from behind."I was wondering where you went."

"Get. Your. Fucking. Hands. Off. Me." April commanded and the guy raised his hands.

"Chill out, April. I thought we were gonna..."

"Don't you dare..." She warned, worried he might say more than she wanted Uche to know.

"You should go back to hanging out with Darren," Uche told her and winked at the guy."I'mma go hang out with Julie."

"W...what?" April hissed."Uche..."

"Chill out, April..." The guy held her again but she snapped at him.

"You fucking say that to me again..." She flipped her hair and walked away. The boy went after her.

I sipped more of the drink through the straw when I saw Uche coming back to me. He sat and open his beer then he turned to me.

"I'm sorry." He said but I just sipped more of the drink."You want a new drink?" He asked but I shook my head."But that one's finished and you keep sucking on the straw. I can go get a new one if you..."

"What does hanging out mean?" I asked him and he chuckled at first.

"What?"

"When you told her we're just hanging out, what did you mean?"

"You could hear us?"

"Maybe," I kept the empty cup on the floor near me and crossed my legs to face him properly.

"I just had to give her an answer."

"Did you?"

"Are you mad right now?"

"I don't know. Maybe I'm mad, maybe I'm not."

"What are you mad about? My response to what she asked or the hug?"

"All of the above," I fumed.

"So, you ARE mad." He caught me. I rolled my eyes. After a pause between us, Uche sighed loudly."You're the one who didn't want us to tell anyone we were dating. I don't know why you have a problem with me telling her what I did."

"And you're the one who put a stupid note in someone's locker, and now I can't even see you when I want to." I said defensively and saw his face go sour."I'm sorry." I really was.

Uche sat back, drank from his bottle and said nothing. I stared on at him. I can't believe we just argued, and that, at a party.

"Do you...do you still want the drink?" He turned to me after some seconds. I shook my head.

"It's you I want," I said and went and sat on his lap. He was surprised. I just smiled. Fuck anyone who saw us.

I leaned into him and kissed him. He kissed back, sucking on on my upper lips first before delving for my tongue. I stopped the kiss and enjoyed the way his lips followed mine to steal one last kiss.

"Let's go somewhere private," I bit my lips as I got of him. He swallowed, keeping his beer and taking my hand.

Shoving through the little crowd dancing in the living room, Uche led me out of there. It got quieter as we walked. I could recognize the way. We were headed to Kim's basement.

We got there but it was dark so Uche let go of my hand to go turn on the lights. My nose scrunched at the smell of smoke. Not smoke from fire...

Someone else was here. I made to alert Uche but he turned on the lights and I turned around to see Casey on her knees. Nick got up and was buckling his belt. Casey got on her feet and pulled her dress down.

"What the fuck man?" Nick asked when he saw Uche.

"My bad, didn't know you guys were here." Uche said and took my hand to leave but Nick pulled me back and stood in front of me.

"Where the fuck you taking my sister to, huh? Are you gonna go fuck her somewhere else? Were you gonna fuck her here? Isn't that why you've been lying to me, to fuck her. To fuck my sister."

Uche didn't say anything in response. He looked at me, and then back at Nick then he sighed.

I freed my hand from Nick and went and stood next to Uche."I'm not a kid, Nick." I thought I should remind him.

"I'm not a kid, Nick," he mimicked me with a chortle. "Since when do you even like going to parties, Julie? And now you're here with him."

"Yeah, I'm here with him to being a baby about it. Come on, Uche, let's leave." I grabbed Uche's right arm and pulled him away.

We went to the garden in the backyard and sat on a bench together. It wasn't as quiet as the basement but only two girls were there, making out on the ground a bit far from where we sat. Uche wasn't saying anything, and I didn't know what to say either, till I thought of the basement again.

"Casey was in their with him alone. Do you think they're..." I trailed knowing he'd understand what I meant.

He did."He's high as fuck, Casey's drunk. He probably doesn't know it's her. Casey might know but I'm pretty sure she'd let him do any shit to her tonight whether she's drunk or not."

"Don't say that about her," I took offense. I don't know why but I just did. He shouldn't be saying that about Casey.

"It's the truth," he shrugged and kissed my cheek. He was trying to hide it but I could tell he wasn't ready for all what Nick said down at the basement. He shifted and sat in a way that would let him rest his head on my thighs.

"Nick doesn't know you've been celibate, does he?" I asked and he turned his head on my thighs to look up at me. At that moment, I remembered that he didn't know I knew. Fuck.
