Chapitre 12: Chapter 12 Tour the city (1)

Understanding the situation immediately, Valarissa realized that her father was likely furious with Uncle Deamon for his disrespectful remarks about their deceased brother, the prince. It seemed that her uncle would soon be banished from King's Landing for his words.

It appears that events are unfolding according to the plot which means there is no butterfly effect till now due her existence, and she knew she had to devise her own plans. In order for the Targaryen house to maintain its strength, it must first establish its ability to stand independently and govern the city it currently resides in, as well as the surrounding areas near King's Landing. Only then can it expand its control to other regions and lords.

However, before any of that can happen, she understood the importance of familiarizing herself with the city, its inhabitants, their circumstances, and how she can contribute to its improvement. Therefore, she had already made the decision to explore the entire city, not just the market or the picturesque sights, but also the slums and the most prosperous areas.

"What are you pondering so deeply, sister?" Rhaenyra asked, observing her sister lost in thought while eating her meal.

"Nothing, I was just wondering why my father was in such a rush to summon Uncle Deamon," Valarissa replied, pretending to be unaware of Deamon's little gathering the previous night.

Rhaenyra knew the real reason, but she hesitated and ultimately chose not to disclose the truth. "I don't know either, sister."

Valarissa was taken aback by this response, as she knew from Rhaenyra's expression and hesitation that she was lying and fully aware of the reason.

It appears that my sister is concerned about the possibility of me getting into an argument with uncle Deamon or questioning him about his words, if I am aware of the reason," Valarissa thought to herself.

She nodded at Rhaenyra, signaling that she would no longer discuss that particular subject. The two sisters finished their morning meal while engaging in casual conversation.

After the meal, Valarissa expressed her desire to explore the city outside the keep and extended an invitation. To her surprise, Rhaenyra declined the invitation and even summoned additional knights to ensure her protection.

Despite the strict enforcement of the golden clock, Valarissa remained unfazed. The current state of the city posed significant dangers, but she chose not to ride in a carriage. Instead, she and Cerdic embarked on their journey on horseback, leaving the protective walls of the redkeep behind.

As they traveled through the city, Rhaenyla observed her surroundings.

During this time, King's Landing City was being rectified by her uncle Damon Targaryen and his team of Golden Clock. While she found their actions to be somewhat extreme, she couldn't deny the significant improvement in law and order within the city.

However, the city still appeared shabby, dirty, and muddy.

A foul smell permeated the air, lingering among the people. Even the wind from the port failed to disperse the unpleasant odor that hung over the city.

As one navigates through the bustling streets of King's Landing, it becomes apparent that the city is a melting pot of diverse individuals. From newcomers who have recently arrived from distant lands to devout churchgoers making their way to the local place of worship, the streets are alive with a vibrant mix of people. However, amidst this vibrant atmosphere, a glaring issue becomes evident – the lack of proper sanitation.

The deteriorating drainage system in King's Landing has resulted in the accumulation of animal and human waste in certain isolated and narrow streets. The stench of decay hangs heavy in the air, a constant reminder of the city's struggle to maintain basic cleanliness. It is a stark contrast to the grandeur and opulence often associated with the capital city.

While King's Landing may still be considered relatively peaceful, the presence of impoverished individuals and refugees raises questions about their origins and the reasons behind their continuous influx. The city's existing population of unemployed and destitute individuals only adds to the complexity of this issue. What drives these individuals to seek refuge in King's Landing? Are they fleeing war-torn lands, seeking a better life, or are there deeper underlying reasons for their continuous arrival?

The answers to these questions remain elusive, but the consequences of this influx are impossible to ignore. The strain on the city's resources is evident, as the already limited provisions are stretched thin to accommodate the growing population. The lack of proper sanitation not only poses a health hazard but also highlights the city's inability to address the needs of its most vulnerable residents.

As the streets of King's Landing continue to bustle with activity, it is clear that the city's sanitation woes cannot be overlooked. The deteriorating drainage system and the presence of waste in the streets serve as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the city and its inhabitants. It is a call to action, urging the authorities to prioritize the improvement of sanitation infrastructure and address the underlying issues that contribute to the continuous influx of impoverished individuals and refugees. Only then can King's Landing truly live up to its reputation as a thriving and prosperous capital city.

As she moved further away from the city's prosperous area she couldn't help but notice the poverty that seemed to be prevalent in every corner of the city. Ragged children ran barefoot, their clothes tattered and dirty. Beggars lined the streets, their outstretched hands pleading for any scraps of food or coin. It was a stark contrast to the opulence and grandeur of the red keep they had just left behind.

The city, although appearing prosperous, was incredibly fragile in her perspective. The true strength of this city lies solely in the Targaryen dragons and the formidable high walls that surrounded it.

As she observed the children, she couldn't help but notice the numerous orphans among them. It was evident that many of them were the illegitimate offspring of influential lords from prominent families. This realization shed light on why King's Landing was plagued by crimes.
