She hates me. She hates me so much. What else could she feel for me? I pulled her away from the love of her life. And now, she’s being dragged against her will through a dark tunnel. She and Christopher do love each other. That was apparent back at the tower. But it’s a mistake. Mary is better off with me. Soon, she will teleport to anywhere she wants. The spell requires an enormous amount of energy—Just enough swells inside me to pull it off. Soon, I will be dead.
“Adam, please, please let me go back to Christopher.”
She doesn’t protest much physically. But her words carry guilt. This is all in her best interest though. I will find the strength.
“I’m sorry Mary, Christopher is too weak, too unreliable. We can’t let the others snatch you again. They will torture you until I recite the spell needed to break the island’s curse—They’re vampires, Mary. Christopher underestimates them.”
Mary stops trying to wrestle away from my grip, so I release her.
