The carriage ride from Northbrook to Thorn Manor took over an hour. London's weather had been pleasant this evening, and Rose saw buds forming on the trees, calling for spring's arrival. It was the time she loved most, new beginnings heralding life. The flowers would be bright and colorful. The scent of fresh roses clouded her mind, but no matter how hard Rose tried to forget, the actions of Magnus intruded on her pleasant rumination.

Rose sat silent, still pondering about the day's events. She got the shivers, and her skin crawled at the idea of Magnus's intentions toward her. What was worse is this was the person Dante wanted her to marry. Rose was right to listen to her instincts about Magnus Gillian. Her hair stood on the back of her neck. The thought that she was almost engaged to Magnus made her feel betrayed by Dante. Especially if he knew what the man was planning to do to her.
