Helena quietly sang with Alice, Mark having had to go to the hospital early, as she put the girl's hair into two pig tails. The two were in the master bathroom, Alice standing in her little stool as she made faces to herself, in the mirror.
As Helena felt a have of sickness overtake her, she quickly backed away from the sink, throwing her head into the toilet just in time.
Lifting her head a bit, the doctor reached for some toiled paper as to clean her mouth.
As she was about to, however, she felt a little hand on her back, turning to see Alice standing by her with a worried look.
"Mama, you ok?" She asked, tilting her head.
"I'm ok. Thank you, ." She smiled, explaining, as she flushed the toilet. "It's the baby making mama feel sick again."
"Why?" She asked, pouting, as she reached up to put a hand on her mother's belly. "Baby, don't hurt mama!"
"Oh, it's ok, honey." Helena chuckled. "He doesn't mean to, he doesn't know."
"It's ok. He doesn't know." Alice repeated, with a nod.
"Now, what do you say I just brush my teeth and then we get back to your pigtails?" She proposed, making the toddler smile.
"!" ("Yes!")
——
"So she put her little hand on my belly and asked the baby to stop hurting me." Helena told Arizona, who had a delighted smile on her face.
Suddenly, they heard someone call out, outside the ER. "Help! You gotta help my boy. He's been run over!"
At that, the two women sprinted to the ambulance bay, where they found a man holding up his child.
"Sir, do not move. Don't move him." Helena instructed, as Arizona called out.
"Gurney! Backboard and C-spine!"
Helena began trying to keep the boy's neck in place, as the father explained. "He was driving the tractor. He hit a bump and fell off. He went under the wheel and the chaser bin, too."
"Has he moved since?" Arizona asked.
"Yes, yeah. He was trying to get up."
"Uh, let's get him straight to the Lodox." Helena instructed, hopping in the gurney to keep the spine in place, as they wheeled him away. "What's his name?"
"Cody. His name is Cody." The father called out.
"Cody, I'm Dr. Robbins. Can you hear me?" The blond tried, as she tested his reflexes.
"You didn't call an ambulance?" The brunette asked.
"I called 911 but then he passed out, and I was so scared I couldn't wait. So I-I brought him here myself."
"You said he was moving before?" Arizona furrowed her brows.
"Yeah, that's good, right?"
——
"He has a burst fracture at C6." Helena announced. "Page ortho, please. Karev should be available."
"His belly is full of blood. He needs to go to the OR, now." Arizona informed.
"He was moving before, Arizona. W-what if he paralyzed his own child by bringing him here?" The short girl exhaled.
"We don't know that yet." She shook her head. "I'll need the extra hands in the OR, wanna come?"
"Sure." She nodded, as they walked out of the room.
"Is he gonna be ok?" The father asked.
"He has a lot of internal bleeding, so we need to operate right away." The blond told him. "Also, his neck is broken."
"Oh my God. He can move, right? He was moving..."
"When we know more we'll send you an update. We're doing all that we can, sir." The younger surgeon nodded.
——
"Were you able to decompress the cord, Alex?" The short girl asked, in surgery with Alex and Arizona. "Is he gonna be paralyzed?
"Too soon to tell." The man shook his head.
"We don't tell the dad, right?" Helena asked Arizona. "We shouldn't tell him."
"Tell him what?" Alex asked, looking up from his work.
"The spinal injury was likely caused by the father transporting him." The blond explained.
"He should have waited for an ambulance." The ortho surgeon let out, in a tone of annoyance.
"He didn't know." Arizona corrected.
"Well, look where that got him. It might have paralyzed his kid..." Alex shrugged. "He would have been better off if he would have just kept his hands off."
"Oh, don't do that." Helena shook her head. "He saw his kid had been run over, the ambulance took a while, he panicked. Not everyone has the same access to information. He was trying to make it better. So I say we can't tell him."
"Of course we don't tell him." The older woman agreed.
