Chapter 40: Across the Line
Holly Adams POV:
Chandler lay in the hospital bed. The arm I had shot was bandaged and in a sling while the other was handcuffed to the bed. Two armed guards stood to either side of the bed, meaning Philips, Andy, and I could ask our questions without worrying about her trying anything.
“How long have you been working for Rafael King, Agent?” Philips asked, stressing her old title.
Chandler blinked slowly. “I don’t.” She sounded tired, which was probably a combination of the blood loss and painkillers she had been given.
“Now is not the time to protest your innocence,” Philips stated firmly. “Forensics will be able to confirm whether the bullets that killed Howland and Dales came from your gun. If we confirm you are a murderer, you will have more to gain by cooperating with us.”
Chandler let her eyes slide closed. “It wasn’t supposed to go this way.”
“How long have you been working for Rafael King?” Philips repeated.
