Chapitre 2: Imminent Death

"The Death"

After hearing the old lady's words, Mark for some reason had a bad premotion in his heart, yet he didn't know what was the cause of this.

His intuition had saved him on multiple occasions before, but he had never seen it react so violently as this time.

It was so extreme that Mark had started to doubt whether his own instinct was overreacting or not.

The Death card carried many meanings, an upright Death card in Mark's case, meant transitions, powerful movements...and endings.

'...Let's be rational about this, it probably can't be the last meaning. Yeah, I most likely just got scared for no reason.'

As Mark tried to calm his mind which was in a turmoil, the old lady spoke again:

"...There will be a great change in your future. I can not predict what kind of change it will be, but it is certainly set in stones, unchangeable, unmoveable."

"This will cause a complete severance between your current self and future self...Hehe, I've never seen a customer with such an interesting fate as yourself, I wonder what will happen to you, sir." The old lady uttered in an amused tone.

'Motherf...'

After the old lady was done speaking, Mark felt his back hair stand on the end as a chill ran down his spine. Unable to bear the feeling, he decided to leave this damn place as soon as possible.

Just as he was about to stand up, the old lady directly looked into his eyes and said in an even tone, the amusement from before seemed to have disappeared as if it never existed:

"I can tell that you're worried about what I said, perhaps this might be able to help you."

The old lady extended her left hand toward him, on her palm was a simple bracelet, it had a silver color with the word "Luck" written on it.

"What is this?" Mark asked, perplexed by why the old lady suddenly showed him this thing.

"...You can say that it is a lucky charm, it might bring you some good luck. You don't need to worry about the price. Heh...consider it my help for those like you." The woman said the final part with a hint of pity in her voice.

Mark noticed her tone and couldn't help but be wary of what the old lady said.

'What does she mean by that!?'

...After deciding that he wouldn't be able to get any answers even if he tried, Mark threw the whole thing outside of his mind. He shifted his attention back to the plain-looking bracelet.

Normally he wouldn't accept something that was given by a stranger, but his intuition was begging for him to take the bracelet, so he reluctantly extended his hand and grabbed the charm.

After that, he put the charm back into his black pants' left pocket, turned around, and walked off without saying anything.

The old lady maintained her silence and quietly watched his figure getting further away from sight.

After about 10 seconds, Mark tilted his head back a little to make sure the old lady was still looking at him. But instead, he saw something that made his heart jump in frights.

'It's gone...'

In front of his eyes was an empty land with nothing but dried grass and weeds growing everywhere. The divination tent had completely disappeared as if it had vanished into nothingness.

After recovering from the shock, Mark quickly composed himself with a deep breath and decided that it was best not to dwell on the matter any deeper. If an Abandoned like him got involved in these supernatural matters then It'd be like courting death.

Mark turned around in the direction where his meeting with Muscle Bros would be held and started running towards it.

...His left hand still tightly clung onto the bracelet, for an unknown reason.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In an unknown void filled with nothing but pure darkness.
A menacing figure started materializing out of thin air. Its body seemed to be composed of multiple squirming tentacles which created a feeling that they had their own sentients, rotten fleshes that started to reek blackish-yellow pus that occasionally came out from multiple parts of the thing.
Looking at it created a feeling of pure disgust that even the strongest-willed man would be unable to endure.
But the most terrifying thing that would make any human mind explode from looking directly into it, was its millions of eyes and mouths that were constantly moving and closing around every part of its body.
The eyes were filled with disgusting hunger and madness awaited to devour everything. The mouths were dripping with saliva as it made a low growl, and the teeth were rotten beyond imagination. All of this combined to create a creature that came from the deepest, darkest nightmare that no living beings could fathom.
The being's eyes, mouths, and tentacles were moving and squirming madly but its body oddly stand still without moving. If it was not for the former then some might think the thing was dead.
Suddenly the eyes, mouths, and tentacles stopped moving at the same time, and even the blackish-yellow pus that was flowing out from the thing's body also stopped. The eyes suddenly all turned in the same direction — a very terrifying sight.
Its mouths started to open, slowly uttered out each word:
[It....is....time....our....first....experiment....to... commence.]
Its voice sounded like millions of people were speaking at the same time, and the tone of the voices, was like a broken recorder that was forced to slowly play backward, creating a jarring feeling that made one want to stab their ears.
After a moment of silence, it continued speaking:
[Let's.....see.....how.....it....would.....play out.]
[Ha...ha....ha....ha....ha]
It started to let out low, ear-piercing laughters from its mouths before its body fade away into nothingness.
After the creature's disappearance, the dark void returned to its state of perennial, as if for all eternity.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"...Should be here."

Mark looked to the east side of the slum before letting his feet carry him to the said direction. It took him quite a while to find the meeting location so he was sweating after running a lot.

Even though Mark also lived in the slum, he was lucky enough to have parents who stayed in the outer perimeter where the residents had something that could barely be considered a job. Thus he spent his childhood mostly in the outer perimeter and rarely came here.

Mark's parents had gone 8 years ago so life became harder and he almost had to move into the inner sections of the slum. But Mark was a smart kid so he managed to crawl his way through hardships and lived the life of an incredibly low-average-income citizen.

Mark continued to walk for a while before he found the right location.

It was a dark, small alley hidden in the corner of the slum. The air inside was filled with a pungent smell that made you want to vomit, if you looked to both sides of the alley you would see bodies of dead rats lying there motionlessly. They were most likely the culprits of the pungent smell Mark was feeling.

At the end of the alley, there were a group of 4 muscular people. In fact, their muscles looked so huge that they seemed to be on the verge of exploding.

'...Gross.' Mark grimaced a little.

For some reason, he felt that he'd rather look at the bodies of dead rats for hours than these dumbasses for another second.

The group of 4 noticed Mark was approaching so they revealed a hideous smile that had caries. One of them opened his mouth and said:

"Took you long enough, brat."
