Chapitre 81: Defensive
The use of magic to protect herself and others had been left out once a good spot had been found.
There were few locations to get a clear shot at those that were gathered there and there was only one way to get there.
Valis was wielded as if it was very light and it danced around as it took on the incoming arrows that had continued to target them.
Those behind her were safe so long as Mallory did not back off from her current position or let something slip past her.
Several footsteps appeared nearby which were very hurried and heavy.
They kept getting closer and several figures appeared taking the form of men and women of different ages.
They all held some form of weapon in their hands which was pointed towards the direction of Mallory.
The arrows continued to rain down upon Mallory which had caused her to be distracted enough to let them get close enough to deal with her.
They had all agreed on the timing to be able to stop shooting once they were close enough so that they could get close enough to Mallory without being harmed by their own allies.
"Kill them!"
They ran forward upon being ordered and the arrows had started to fall less frequently as the pressure slightly reduced on Mallory.
They were all within the small opening that led to Mallory and it would not be long before the last arrow fell and they began their attack.
Their murderous intentions were clearly shown on their faces as they savoured the moment.
They could see themselves torturing the two Demihuman girls and the pink haired young male.
If it was possible then they hoped to be able to keep the two girls alive but they would have to suffer a little at their hands.
There were always places to make more Valis through illegal means and the prices of demihumans were usually much higher.
Many nobles had some twisted tastes and hobbies so they were usually involved in purchasing various races or monsters for different purposes.
A Bull race demihuman was one that some would pay quite a price for but a Leopard race demihuman was something that was very rare so it could be sold for a very high price.
On one hand, they wanted to end things quickly and settle their negative feelings on those that had caused them.
On the other hand, they saw the value in having such rarities in front of them so they needed to be careful not to damage the merchandise.
It was easier to maintain and cover up such things with healing potions so they did not need to worry as much about it so long as they did not take things too far.
They did not go in for the kill upon getting a closer look at those in front of them but they would still show no mercy to them as they attacked.
Another step was taken forward but they suddenly heard the words of the blonde haired leopard girl in front of them. "????"
She spoke in a strange and unrecognisable language all of a sudden and something happened right after.
Some pieces of paper started to glow from different corners all around them which were attached to kunai.
The kunai were stabbed into the ground in different locations, the light spread out from each one which followed with a release of something else that had been created by each of the papers.
Some strange force took shape between the papers as they linked up and boxed those inside as a barrier wall had locked them in place from many sides.
"What the…"
"Hit it!"
"Hey kid! Your tricks will not work!"
"This barrier will fall in a moment then you will suffer!"
"Gyahahaha!"
They believed that their combined efforts would make quick work of the barrier and they would soon be able to get to those in front of them.
Clang.
Crash.
Their weapons hit against the barrier and were repelled by their own force but they seemed to be making a gradual impact on it.
Just as they thought it was going to be their success, the voice of Mallory had spoke again in the same language but said a different phrase that time. "????"
"Huh?"
"There is another one?!"
"Who cares? It is just another… wha?"
They joked on as they continued to put their efforts into breaking out but the sudden use of more talismans had caused them to be alerted to the fact that more were positioned inside.
The magic gathered and linked up between the placed talismans just like the barriers had done.
They did not see anymore of the talismans so they expected to be able to get out once they broke past the second barrier in front of Mallory that would form.
What they expected did not come and they were shocked when they saw the nature of the magic which had taken form.
A flame was created from the talisman which had linked up to the others and started growing larger around the edges of the barrier.
The flame quickly grew larger and closed in on all of them inside.
"Cough.."
"Cough cough."
"Haahk!"
The heat and smoke inside of the barrier had caused them to retreat towards the middle as they helplessly watched on as the flames closed in on them.
Two among them rushed towards the barrier in a final attempt to escape but their bodies caught fire as they passed through the wall of flames.
"Gya!"
"Aaah!"
Their bloodied and burnt fists hit against the barrier as their final moments were spent in agony.
Those that were still alive inside of the middle of the barrier trap had to watch on as their comrades died and could feel the heat rising.
It was difficult for them to breathe as the fire consumed everything in order to sustain itself and grow more .
"Gyaaa!"
"Aah!"
The fire reached them and they were burnt or had already suffocated from the lack of breathable air before then.
The flames inside had little left to use as fuel inside of the barrier so it slowly started to extinguish.
