I Will Eventually Embark on the Path of No Return Called a Hero [Arc2] - 75. Just Be a Detective for Now

---

As Cyd watched the ever-changing scenery outside the window, he breathed on the glass like a child and drew a smiley face.

"Mr. Cyd seems to be curious about everything," Gray whispered to Reines, who was sitting beside her, while glancing at Cyd sitting across from them.

Reines sipped her coffee, "Well, after all, he is from..."

"Cough, cough," Lord El-Melloi II cleared his throat loudly, interrupting her. "We're discussing more serious matters right now."

Reines paused, glancing at the confused-looking Wills Pelham Codrington, who was sitting across from El-Melloi II. Then, she smiled and said, "How impolite of me."

"It's alright. Young Master Wills wouldn't mind," Kairi Sisigou shrugged.

"Ah, yes, since I'm the one who asked for your help," Wills scratched the back of his head, looking somewhat embarrassed.

El-Melloi II sighed in relief and shot Reines a disapproving look. Knowing she was at fault, Reines awkwardly turned her head away.

"So... it's about time you told me everything," El-Melloi II said as he picked up his coffee.

"Eh?" Wills tilted his head, seemingly confused by El-Melloi II's question.

"This matter should fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Spiritual Evocation. Why did you come to me?" El-Melloi II asked calmly. Although he was in debt and rarely turned down commissions, he didn't want to be tricked or dragged into a particularly troublesome situation.

Well, he was already entangled in a particularly big mess...

El-Melloi II glanced at Cyd, who was holding a purple-haired loli and gazing out the window.

Wait! Where did that loli come from?

El-Melloi II's eyes widened.

He rubbed his eyes hard, and then the loli was gone.

What!?

"Um... I've already explained it," Wills said awkwardly, tapping the table.

"Ah... Sorry, could you repeat that? I've been a bit distracted lately due to being so busy," El-Melloi II apologized with a wry smile as he rubbed the bridge of his nose.

Given how Reines was giggling earlier, he probably hadn't seen wrong.

Honestly, these heroes always manage to do things that throw him off balance.

"Uh... So, in short, the Codrington family has already reported this matter to Department of Policies," Wills explained, scratching his face awkwardly, clearly aware of how troublesome the situation was.

"Department of Policies, huh?" El-Melloi II's expression darkened as he realized what Wills meant. "That's why you came to me."

"Department of Policies? This is going to get serious," Kairi Sisigou, who had once studied at the Clock Tower, knew well how tricky the Department of Policies could be. "What exactly was your late father planning to do with that workshop? Did you try using necromancy to ask him?"

"My father..." Wills hesitated, struggling to comprehend what had happened to make the workshop go berserk. "I'm sorry, but all traces have been erased, and necromancy isn't working."

"Ah... that's a problem..." Kairi Sisigou's expression turned sour.

"Oh my, I thought the workshop was the biggest issue, but it seems there's more to it," Reines narrowed her eyes, looking more amused than concerned, unlike El-Melloi II, who appeared to have a headache.

"Master, what's going on?" Gray, a novice in necromancy, asked, confused.

"In necromancy, summoning residual thoughts of the dead is possible, but..." El-Melloi II leaned on his hand, his face showing bitterness, "not all the deceased can be summoned. If the residual thoughts are tampered with..."

"It's like erasing fingerprints at a crime scene," Kairi Sisigou sighed. "At this point, I think we should just give up on that workshop."

"What!" Wills exclaimed, his mouth hanging open.

"It's better for you not to return there," Cyd advised, crossing his arms. "You're probably already under suspicion, and they might even be waiting for you at the workshop."

"No way! Could they really act that quickly?" Wills looked incredulous.

"When it comes to the Mysteries, those who handle them can be as fast as they need to be," Cyd said, waving the newspaper on the table. "Several people have already died."

"I didn't do it!" Wills shouted, jumping to his feet in agitation.

"I know, I believe you," Cyd reassured him, glancing at the hidden bracer on his left wrist. The crystals blessed by Hermes were faintly glowing. "That's why I'm giving you the right choices."

"Yes, young master, I also think it's best to be cautious," Kairi Sisigou agreed without hesitation. He had almost blind faith in Cyd's judgment.

"Emmm..." El-Melloi II stared at Cyd, rubbing his chin. After a moment, he nodded. "Indeed, when those guys get serious, they can act pretty swiftly."

Wills felt dazed. He had come to resolve the issue, but why did it now feel like he was being advised to cover up evidence?

"It seems our upcoming journey will be quite interesting," Reines chuckled, sipping her coffee.

"Eh?" Gray, who still didn't understand why everyone was suddenly on the same page, looked around in confusion.

"Gray doesn't seem very familiar with history," Reines noted, setting down her coffee with a hint of resignation.

"Uh... because I was in the countryside before..." Gray tugged at the hood of her cloak.

"Hmm, that's tricky," Reines said, tilting her head, then gave a thumbs-up. "Just remember, trust the judgment of the guy sitting across from you."

"Mind your manners, young lady," El-Melloi II leaned back in his chair. "But you're not wrong. Although this matter is complex, it should be solvable."

"So, my dear brother, shouldn't you set aside some pride and fully utilize his power for the family's sake?" Reines grinned.

"Hmm?" Wills looked completely baffled.

Why am I the only one who doesn't understand?

"Cough, cough," Cyd cleared his throat, stood up, and extended his hand to Wills. "Actually, I'm a detective, commissioned by Lord El-Melloi II to assist you. Due to some confidential agreements, I can't disclose my identity, but please believe me—I'll help clear your name."

Seeing the clarity in Cyd's eyes, Wills, who had been anxious about the Department of Policies, felt reassured. He reached out and shook Cyd's right hand. "Thank you! Please help me!"

Is this the charisma of the Hero of Pure White?

El-Melloi II watched Cyd's smiling face, momentarily lost in thought. Though their styles and builds were completely different, the way Cyd comforted Wills was exactly like how that king once made the timid him stand tall.

Heroes truly are remarkable...
