Chapitre 38: Chapter 37: Payback
Outside the Stevens' mansion, four black cars pulled over in front of the gate. Men wearing black suits came out of the three cars. They stood in position and waited for the main car's passenger to come out.
One of them opened the car and Xavier with a cold aura came out from it.
People living in the neighborhood were families of elite businessmen who decided to have their residences downtown.
The majority of them had their private armies to protect themselves and their families from danger.
If a shootout would happen tonight, Xavier was not alarmed if ever the neighbors would help them or not.
Some people living here were a little selfish as they'd rather mind their business rather than interfere.
Some might help because they were family friends or business partners. However, Xavier would make sure that they'd stay out of it.
He had many ways to do so.
It was easy for Xavier and his team to infiltrate this luxurious neighborhood by putting the guards to sleep. And so no one could stop him from seizing the mansion and kicking the family out.
Xavier and his men walked towards the gate and one man pressed the buzzer.
The guard watching over the gate opened it and he was greeted by a gun pointed at his head.
"Open the gate wide and let Master Xavier in or I'll blow up your head." He threatened the guard who was caught by surprise by their announced visit.
He was a newly hired guard so he had no idea who Xavier was. Of course, they've seen it coming and so Xavier's men resorted to this means.
However, they did not expect that instead of cooperating with them voluntarily, he called for backup, "Intruder!"
Xavier grabbed a gun and decided to shoot him with a bullet hole straight in the head.
Gunfire sounds played like music in the area which also alarmed their neighbors.
However, when they saw that gunshots came from the Stevens Mansion, they decided to not interfere.
Meanwhile, the people living inside the house got alarmed when they heard gunshots.
Nikolai was not there he was playing poker in the casino. Natalie was not there either as she was busy with Josh.
Franklin, his wife, and Nikolai's wife named Paula were there together with twenty-five other servants and fifteen members of their private guards.
"What's going on?" Franklin, who was doing something in his study when the gunshots started, came out and asked his wife.
"I don't know." His wife Nicole Stevens answered him in panic.
"Sir Franklin, a group of men have forced their way inside the compound and our men are trying to stop them." One of his men reported.
"What?!" Franklin cried in alarm. He had to inform Nikolai about this.
"The opponent is very strong, Sir. I'm afraid we won't be able to stop them." He added.
"What?! You damn leeches! We did not pay you to be easily defeated by those people. Should you need to sacrifice your life to protect us, then do it!" Franklin ruthlessly said which made the man disheartened.
Yes, they received a salary every month to protect them.
However, was the money enough to sacrifice their own lives? And besides, their pay was lower than their friends who worked in other families.
No one would want to die a martyr for the type of employer who would abuse their authority over them.
Being the leader, he would rather save his team rather than be loyal to their boss.
He decided to disobey the order and asked the remaining members to surrender rather than sacrifice their lives for these unworthy people.
"It's done, Master," Rupert told Xavier after they saw them dropping their weapons on the ground and raising their hands in the air.
"Good."
That's the cue for his team to continue to the next phase.
Xavier led his team to the main door of the mansion and he pushed the door open.
"Hello everyone!" Xavier greeted his so-called family members who were so shocked to know that their security team had surrendered.
"It's you!" Franklin shouted as soon as he saw Xavier walking in.
He still had not forgotten how he was humiliated by Isaiah and Xavier during the board of directors meeting the other day.
"Do you know him, Honey?" His wife asked while hiding behind his back."
"He's dad's bastard's son."
Nicole understood what he said and her eyes widened in shock when she recognized Xavier.
"You? That's impossible! Aren't you a cripple?"
That's what Franklin was asking himself, too.
They were told that Xavier's illness was incurable. And so, how come he was standing with his two feet in front of them?
"A cripple? So you still remember me, sister-in-law." Xavier asked her with a smirk and she hid in fear.
A woman who looked like the mature version of Natalie came down the stairs with her two maids following behind her.
"What's going on here?!" She asked with full authority.
Since she's the first daughter-in-law and was married to the first son, she treated herself as the Mistress of the house.
When she saw a young man standing proud and tall at the entrance, she suddenly had a bad feeling about it.
"Who are you? Why are you here?! Don't you know that you're trespassing?" Paula asked him.
"I'm sorry Mrs. Stevens. However, I'd rather advise you to be polite when talking to Master Xavier." Rupert interrupted her.
Paula's face twitched when she heard the name.
Seems like Xavier's name was taboo and should not be mentioned to them.
"So, it's you! The bastard's son. What are you doing here?", she arrogantly asked him.
Xavier swept a cold gaze at her and this sent shivers down her spine.
Xavier had no intention of entertaining any of their questions and so he looked at Rupert. Rupert understood what he meant and so he pulled the documents from the inside of his jacket and gave it to Franklin.
"Eviction Notice?" Franklin's eyes widened and became furious immediately.
The eviction notice was just a formality, though. And he got this notice from the court. Therefore, it was legal.
Franklin angrily tore the document in front of Xavier.
"Who do you think you are to kick us out of this house when Dad did not even do it to us?!" He angrily told Xavier.
However, Xavier flicked his two fingers and his men approached and surrounded them.
"It's fine. We can reproduce another copy should you want one. How about I give you a soft copy in your email?" Rupert mocked Franklin's actions.
"You!" Franklin furiously pointed his index finger to Rupert.
"What do you want?!" Paula lost her arrogance after she realized the situation.
"Wait, where is Nikolai? Well, I think you need to call him as he has a lot of explanation to do."
Both Franklin and Paula's faces twitched as they had a bad feeling about it.
Paula left her phone upstairs while Franklin had his phone in his pocket.
He grabbed it and called his brother.
The phone kept on ringing on the other line but Nikolai did not answer it.
He tried calling him again and this time, a furious Nikolai answered the call.
"Did I not firmly remind you to never disturb me when I'm playing?! How many times should I tell you this so you'd understand what I mean, idiot?!"
Franklin was used to his brother's belittling remarks to him. He had already accepted the fact that he was far inferior to his older brother and so he became dependent on him.
"Calm down, brother. The bastard is here with an eviction notice on his hand."
"What?! Why did you let him in? Kick him out instantly! Should you need to break his legs to cripple him again, do it!" Nikolai told him. He didn't realize that the call was on speaker.
"If there's nothing else, don't call me again! You'll only spoil my win tonight!" He was about to end the call when Xavier finally spoke.
"That's good. You have to earn a lot of money tonight so your mother and daughter won't be sleeping on the streets. Am I right, b.r.o.t.h.e.r?"
"Xavier?! You bastard! Do you think that you can kick us out of the mansion because Dad's in your care? Dream on! We have more rights to live there than you do!" Nikolai thought that Xavier would be insulted by his rant.
Since he could not see Xavier's face, he did not know that Xavier was rather calm.
"I think you've forgotten something, Nikolai. What? Are you suffering from amnesia now?" It was now Xavier's turn to mock Nikolai.
"Fine. Since you didn't want to tell them, I'll do the honors. Nikolai illegally sold the title of this house to his creditor."
"What?!" Franklin and Paula cried in shock.
Nikolai had done it again!
His gambling addiction was getting out of hand.
"No! He's lying!" Nikolai cried in alarm.
However, Franklin and Paula became furious as they realized that Xavier could be telling the truth.
That's a court order they had. The only lacking was they did not bring any police with them to help impose the court order.
Unless Xavier was able to bribe the judge.
"Brother, tell me the truth?" He demanded and Nikolai knew that he had to do something to pacify the situation.
"I only made it as collateral for my debt. I'm just unlucky for the past months that I failed to pay a couple of weekly amortization payments."
Paula and Franklin's knees turned soft when they heard Nikolai's confirmation.
They both could not believe that Nikolai would do such a thing.
Nikolai on the other hand felt like something was off. How could he know about this when he made the transaction four months ago?
Xavier sneered and said, "You've signed a contract, Nikolai. Should you fail to make payments for six weeks, you'll lose the collateral."
Nikolai suddenly had a bad suspicion.
"How did you know about that contract?"
Was it not obvious? Xavier knew about it because he was his silent creditor.
Of course, he didn't have to know about it, though.
"Really? Do you want me to answer that?" Xavier had made a trap and he fell on it.
"It's not too late to quit gambling now, is it?" He added which infuriated Nikolai.
"How dare you make fun of me!"
"Of course, I dare to because I can! You're lucky that I'm collecting the mansion today and not your lives." Xavier had no intention of hiding this from them.
He was looking forward to what these brothers were going to do to him next.
Nikolai and Franklin's family owed him a lot. Even their lives were not enough as payments for it.
"You!"
"Oh! Try winning tonight okay? As far as your assets are concerned, you don't have much to pull out as collateral anymore." He said making Nikolai speechless. He did not expect him to know about this.
The brothers and their respective wives did not expect Xavier would become this evil and cunning.
"I know what you're thinking Nikolai. For the sake of your safety, just don't. This is just the beginning, so brace yourself."
Rupert felt like crying on the sideline.
He knew how Xavier patiently waited for this moment to happen. He was well aware of how much Xavier resented these people.
They deserved the payback. This mansion was only the interest payment for everything.
