Chapitre 32: Ch 19: The Vermilion Tournament
The day of the Vermilion Tournament, finally arrived.
The Venue of the Tournament was already completely full. The crowd was already excited for the upcoming matches, that would take place for a total of three days. The commentator and the special guest of the event, after some time finally arrived arrived, at their booth.
Commentator: Wellcome everyone to the Most anticipated Rookie Tournament. THE VERMILION CITY ROOKIE TOURNAMENT.
The commentator immediately after he appeared, started to hype up the crowd. The whole atmosphere at the stadium was electrifying.
Commentator: Now lets welcome our special guest for this event. The one, the only... OUR Gym Leader Lt. Surge.
Surge: Welcome everyone to this event. I can't wait for the upcoming battles to begin.
Lt.Surge immediately caused an uproar to the hyped crowed with his appearance. After all he was the Gym Leader of Vermilion City.
Commentator: So. I believe since you must had fought, with most of the participants that are competing in this event, you must have a few trainers that you favour, as the ones to win the whole Tournament.
The Commentator questioned Lt.Surge. After all as the Gym Leader of Vermilion City for many years. He had battled the majority of the participants of this tournament. The one clearer of the power level, of among the different contestants should be him.
Surge: I have 3 favourites for this event. But i would keep them hidden for now. If a match happens between them. Expect an epic war to unfold upon our eyes.
Surge passed on his views, of the upcoming matches and the tournament began full force.
The tournament would consist of a total of 7 rounds. A total of 121 rookie trainers participated in this event. The first round will consist of a total of 60 matches. Since there was an extra trainer would get a free pass towards the next round. Since a total of 61 trainers would be up for the 2nd round. 3 lucky trainers who had lost their first match, after a draw they will also proceed to the 2nd round for a total of 64 trainers.
During the first day of the tournament the 1st and 2nd round will be played out. During the 2nd day the top 32,16 and 8 will take place. Living the semifinals and finals for the final 3rd day of the Vermilion Tournament.
The first match soon started. Wes took out a small notebook, he had bought before arriving at the stadium and he immediately began to take notes, of the summary of the Pokemon participating in the matches. This would help him in planning out, the Pokemon he would use in the tournament in his later rounds. After 10 matches, it was finally time for Wes to participate in the 11th match.
Commentator: Ok everyone. Next we have Wes Williams, a trainer from Pallet Town. And Roy, from Saffron City.
At the call of the commentator Wes and his opponent proceeded towards the stage. Roy was a very tall, buffed teen with short red hair, wearing a Karate Gi.
" Saffron City and a Karate Gi. He definitely is a trainer, from the fighting dojo."
Wes immediately figured out his opponent's background. This made it easer for him to choose, which Pokemon of his team, would participate in the first round of the Tournament.
Wes and Roy stood on opposite corners. Waiting the orders of the referee.
Referee: You may call both your. Pokémon at the same time.
Wes: Staryu, Butterfree take the stage.
Roy: Machop, Mankey. Time to fight.
Wes: Butterfree use Sleep Powder on Machop. Staryu Icy Wind.
Roy: Machop Thunder Punch on Butterfree. Mankey use Meditate.
Machop started to move towards Butterfree but before arriving Butterfree's Sleep Powder took effect putting Machop to Sleep. Mankey sat in a yoga pose and increased its Atk stat by 1 stage. Then the Icy Wind of Staryu arrived and hit both of Roy's Pokemon lowering their Speed stat by 1 stage.
Roy: Mankey use Seed Bomb on Staryu.
Wes: Confusion Both of you.
Wes had snapped his finger as he said that.
Butterfree moved further away from Staryu. Staryu on the other hand suddenly teleported avoiding the Seed Bomb and counter attacked the Mankey. Mankey then appeared close to Butterfree taking another round of Confusion in the process. The damage was to much for Mankey forcing Roy to stay on hos sleeping Machop. The end of the match did take a lot of time after that.
Commentator: And we have a winner. Wes swept apart his opponent. What a slaughter.
The Commentator conveyed to the audience, the result of the match at the top of his lungs. Lt.Surge on the other hand, had a huge smile on his face.
At the same time in the stands, two young girls were discussing about the match Wes had.
Leaf: That was amazing. Wes destroyed that poor guy.
Daisy: This Staryu will be a lot of trouble to face.
Leaf: Luckily for me, It's a Water Type. after all. I believe Wes won't use it against me.
Daisy: You should consider more about his starter Eevee. If he evolved it into a Flareon, then you are in very big trouble.
Leaf: Yes that could be a potential obstacle.
Then the tournament continued. Leaf used her Parasect and Weepinbell in both her matches against her Opponent while Daisy used her Pidgeotto and Pikachu. Gary had got the first buy and in the second round he used his Nidorino and Sandslash.
Wes on his second match on the other hand used his Nidorino along with his Butterfree. Destroying his opponents Scyther and Fearow in the Process.
Finally the 1st day finished. Wes returned to the Pokemon Center and began reading his notes for his next opponent. That guy had revealed, a LV 27 Vaporeon during his fight, along with a LV 25 Graveler. He believed that Vaporeon would definitely make an appearance. The question remaining, was what else was his opponent hiding. After all with the slaughters Wes has caused, he didn't believe, that his next opponent would hold back. After that Wes went back to sleep.
The next day arrived and the tournament began full force. On the standings Leaf and Daisy still sat together. Gary had already won his own match by a landslide.
Both Wes and his opponent appeared on the stage. Then a Vaporeon and an Onix appeared facing against an Ivysaur and a Staryu.
Leaf: IVYSAUR!!!!!! How?
Leaf screamed in shock. She couldn't expect, that Wes, also had an Ivysaur in his team.
Daisy: That's a shocker. Leaf are you alright.
Daisy asked Leaf in concern.
Leaf: Its ok. I just didn't expect this. Damnit, how lucky can someone be???
Leaf was really having a headache about this. Ivysaur can be considered a very rare Pokemon. Seeing Wes with one, along with the hidden Eeveelution in the back, made her to feel very threatened of Wes. What if she had to face him next round? How would she cope against him.
Daisy: Well, we can only wait and see.
As the girls were discussing, Wes swept the floor with his opponent. Ivysaur's Power Whip destroyed the poor Onix. While Vaporeon didn't have a Move to deal with Staryu and Ivysaur. In the end Staryu finished Vaporeon with a direct strike from its Thunderbolt Move.
Then after a few matches the round finished. Then the pairings for the Top 16 were reaveled. Wes would fight, a rookie trainer from Pewter City, while Gary end up with his twin sister, in a match that the winner would advance towards the top 8 and the looser would eat his dust.
