Chapter 28: god's hammer
"Its the god's hammer," Queen Zuri said.
Ana looked at the hammer curiously. He squinted his beady goblin was as he asked.
"Are you sure my queen? This hammer look too much different from the one Komoru was holding."
"I am sure. This is how the hammer originally looks. I have seen it before in the holy land. Long before komoru ever became its master."
Behind the two, Zenn watched without chiming in. His seemingly indifferent eyes never left the normal looking hammer.
"If it is or not, there is only one way to find out."
As she said that, he queen went up towards the hammer. Her hand went foward and grasped hammer's hilt.
The air around the three seemingly suddenly changed. As the queens grasp on the hammer's hilt tightened, everyone unconsciously held their breaths.
He air of suspense thus sunk in as the queen pulled the hammer from the ground.
'...'
But, it did not move...
'...'
She thus tried again, this time, with both her hands.
'...'
"Yep, that's the god's hammer."
The queen gave up lifting the hammer. After the queen failed, Ena did not even try. After all, the queen was twice as big as him, but she till failed. What chance does he have?
As such, the eyes of the two fell on the only person who has a real chance of lifting the hammer. Infact... 'chance' would actually be an understatement as he was the hammer's 'real owner.'
Npticing the two's eyes on him, Zenn did not keep them waiting. He arrested out his hand to grab the hammer. Of course, with his size, the hammer did not even fit in his fingers, so he used his fingertips to grab a hold of the hammer.
And with a pinch, he was able to hold the hammer.
But when he tried to pull it...
"..."
The hammer was stuck. No matter how hard Zenn pulled, the hammer did not move from the ground. Although, from time to time, the hammer budget a little, the end results was not much different from queen Zuri.
As such, Zenn let the hammer go in the end. But although he let go of the hammer, it did not mean he gave up. In fact, he grew eager to get it out instead. He was curious how a small thing like this hammer was even able to hold itself against his strength.
The two goblins on the other hand were shocked.
"The lord failed to lift the hammer? Why?"
"The hammer is said to only be lifted by those who are deemed worthy. Does this mean..."
It was after hearing that that Zenn had an idea. Back on earth, there was a simillar story about a sword that was stuck in a stone. It was said that only the rightful true king will lift the sword. This story has been adapted many times and few could fail to recognise it.
But one thing has always been on Zenn's mind every time he sees that story.
'What will happen if I lift or destroy the rock?'
Of course, this was different from the sword in a rock story, but it did gove him an idea.
With that thought, Zenn plunged his hands into the soil not too far from the hammer. One on one side of the hammer and the other on another side. And like a knife through butter, his hands passed through the dry soil and met each other underground.
He then pulled his hands up. But this proved to be a lot harder than he had throught. It was only after he used strength tha he was able to pull his hands up. So just like that, he pulled his hands up, and with them came a large chunk of soil and the hammer on top.
'Its a bit heavy.'
The chunk of soil really was heavy, but not so kuch that Zenn could not lift it. If Zenn was to estimate, he would wait its as heavy as a large brick. It would be hard to lift it with one hand, but not impossible.
With the hammer and a lot of earth chunk in his hands, Zenn put strength in his arms and crushed the earth chunk. Soon, the chunk crumbled and fell slowly from his hands.
Of course, the falling rock and each was like an apocalyptic phenomenon to the goblins below, so Zenn made sure to crush them a bit far from them.
After a little while of crushing, only the hammer was left. The hammer was on Zenn's palm, but the part when he led it was sunken in as though a pointy object was pressed deeply on it.
And almost insteangly, Zenn turned his palm and let hammer fall to the ground.
Boom!
The hammer crashed and made dust fly.
After the hammer fell, Zenn looked at his palm and saw the part when the hammer was. It was red and looked like really pressed by something. So Zenn was able to make a small conclusion about the hammer.
'Its heavy. If it was anywhere else by my palm, it might have began to dig into my flesh.'
Thinking of that time komoru attacked him with the hammer, he felt greatful he did not get hit. For if he was, it would have hurt a lot.
'Komoru was able to lift it so casually. Is he strong or is this its effect on its owner?'
But as komoru had died, that question was likely to not be answered very soon.
With the thought o komoru, Zenn could not help but look back at the mountain with missing corpses.
'I wonder what happened to them.'
In most of the stories he had read or seen. The villain would always return in some way after the main character has killed them. Although this was real life, Zenn could not help but wonder.
'Could komoru be alive? And if not, who took all those corpses? Smeone else.?'
Zenn looked as the ever reaching land in front and seemingly ever expanding waters behind. What was in his mind unknown.
...
