Chapitre 36: Costume Design

It's been a few days since that first swinging exercise in the warehouse and I think I've solved the problem with the variety of webbings that I have. Magic always seems to be the answer to almost all of my problems. My webs can now explode remotely, I just have to set off the spell inside the ball of the web. It can cut through thin-ish metal poles because I can overheat the magic whip inside the web. It's like a weird wonky lightsaber, although that's not really spider related and is pretty useless since it's just a waste of silk and magic. I can split the web into multiple thinner threads to hit multiple targets at once by splitting and breaking the whip at different lengths and angles. And that's…that's about it since I can't really do much with my organic webs.

Other than that it's been almost a week since I've gotten bit, I've checked on Peter through the phone and he seems fine. I think he should be discovering his abilities around now because in Homecoming he said something about having only a week of normalcy after he got bitten by the spider. Ever since then he's been living a double life as an invisible teenager and your friendly neighborhood spiderman. He seems alright though, a bit distant like he's pretending to be under the weather but that's to be expected when you're going through superpower puberty and have no guidance. I wonder just when I should step in to show him the ropes of bearing this great responsibility the two of us have.

Well I think I can save that for later as well as development for any new spells and web abilities too because I can't do anything without a proper super suit. I'm not short on money so I can get almost any materials I want for my suit. I just don't know if I want an all metal suit like ironman or if I want a spandex like suit like your typical web slinger. I don't have all the necessary technology and artificial intelligence to become an iron spider but I also don't want to get shot at and have to repair my outfit every other week. SIGH. Decisions decisions. I know I'm probably overthinking this too much but having a costume that's just right is what every superhero needs. If the costume doesn't match the brand that you're going for you'll be greatly misunderstood, just like the great Saitama-sama. He doesn't need anything fancy to show off his abilities but everyone thinks he's a fraud and a creep because of his outfit of choice.

Since Peter is going to become your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man I should do the opposite. I'm not going to become a villain but I won't be a boy scout either. Not in this life. We've all already seen it before. Time and time again countless villains have either escaped from jail or finished their sentence only to go back and continue to commit more crimes just to be arrested. Now I understand that sometimes you have to do what you have to do to put food on the table. And I know that the system does not work. It only punishes the weak and powerless to keep their cycle of incarceration going and it just fines those with power and connection with a fee before turning a blind eye. I believe that once you have killed and hurt too many innocent people intentionally, that's when you need to be put down...

I think. I think I want to. No. I need to become like my father. A man who's willing to do what is needed to keep his kingdom and family safe....but I haven't killed a human yet. Sure I've slaughtered dozens of demons by hand and eradicated millions from away but I have never killed one of my own. I mean sure, I've broken a couple people and put them in the disability bracket when I was younger but taking a human life? I don't think I can be that cruel.....but someone has to. The world needs someone who's willing to bear the weight of making the difficult decisions. All of my years at Kamar-Taj was to build my foundation to become a strong person. This. This is just the next step I need to take to become worthy of mantling the role of an emperor. Peter will be the spider myth that all criminals wish they could have encountered when they meet me.

I walk to my bedroom as I activate my new hand built computer. It has an interactive holographic illusionary display as well as a newly updated badassium processor. Yeah during the last three years I've sorta been sitting on my ass just waiting for the bite but that doesn't mean I've been lazy the entire time. Every couple of months I would update my software and hardware just a little bit here and there. Now my computer assistant has access to the internet but I always make sure we stay under the radar of J.A.R.V.I.S and S.H.I.E.L.D. My only method of hiding from them for this long was in the combination of magic and technology in my setup. It is truly a beautiful thing, in the future I want to incorporate it with more advanced alien tech like Asgardian or Wakandan or even Kree. Man the possibilities are endless in this universe. I can already see it. An all Vibranium motherboard with a Kree quantum processor and mystical software, wrapped in a shell of uru metal all linked via neurotelpathically to my brain. Essentially it's a copy of the Mobius chair from DC.

Anyways back to the drawing board. I open up my drawing app to bring up a blank canvas so I can begin visualizing my suit. I take a quick 3D scan of my body so I can build the design around my new size. I know I want a spider theme suit but drastically different in colors and visuals when compared to Peter and his suit. His main color is red with a little blue in his regular outfit and then some gold shading once he gets his iron spider suit. I want to be the opposite yet similar in design and feel. Hell, even my siblings' colors are mostly red. Is that the color of a hero in this universe? No, that can't be right because Hawkeye is purple, Black Widow is black, Black Panther is purple, Thor is a grayish metal and Captain America is blue. Mhmm but they all look so good in black though. Anyways, I touch the display and pinch my finger and thumb together around the head of my model before quickly pulling them apart to zoom in on the crown.

I want to first start with the head since it'll be the easiest to design. Instead of having a skin tight mask like Peter I want something like a motorcycle helmet or just an actual head piece itself. Maybe something like the Black Panthers and their costumes? No wait, yes! Something similar to the Panthers. I want a helmet that is light enough that I can move around in with my full range of motion and can come off easily when I need it too but is strong and sturdy enough to take on bullets….something like a DevTac Ronin. But there's only one problem. I need to eat like a hog to compensate for my new metabolism. Before, I could get away with sucking off my arc reactor to not go into a starvation coma when I use magic but now? Now my new body and cells can produce more power, strength, bio-electricity and have more durability but they also require more calories. Real calories, not just electrical energy. So while a DevTac Ronin is a superb helmet design for taking bullets and explosions to the face, I also need to have a mouthpiece that can be taken off so I can eat. But it can't be so weak that it'll blow off and injure me if it gets shot at. Humph. I mean I could just take off my helmet to eat but then that defeats the purpose of hiding my face and identity. I don't know who could be watching whenever I'm on duty as the Mystic Spider.

Okay we'll deal with the pie hole later. Let's start with the design of an actual spider and have that be the theme of the headpiece. I want the eyes to be where my eyes will go but I'll have a screen view like Tony. The other side eyes can be around the head and along the back of towards the neck…nah that's a bit too tacky. I think I'll just have a pair of eyes where they should be. But I don't just want a spider head. I also want a skull too so maybe a giant spider head drapes over a human skull like a herculean type headgear? No, that's doing too much for a piece of equipment that needs to be repaired and fixed on the regular. How about a mask like the rest of the spider family with the big eyes and web design but a set of teeth from a skull? Yeah actually, yeah. We'll go with that. It'll be a helmet in the same realm of your typical Spider-man but the nose is "missing" and there's a set of teeth where my mouth should be, to add a skull and death element to it. That way I can have the jaw be a modular piece that can be detached for me to eat food with. It'll be similar enough for people to know that we're both spider themed vigilantes but different enough because one will kill you and the other will only break a few bones before tying you up for the police. I still want a HUD though so it's going to require some electrical work.

Now the suit. I want to break it down to limb sections and armor parts. For the hands I wanted a skin tight glove that my hairs can stick out of so I can grip on to walls. But that's so counterintuitive because if it's thin enough for my hair to poke through then it's not durable enough to withstand any friction and usage. If it's thick enough for me to use for a long time then I can't use my wall climbing powers because I need my spider hairs. ARRGH! Why does it have to be so fucking complicated? Fuck it. I should just scrap this whole thing and become Hentai Spida! The naked perverted web slinger that can't be touched and will kill you with nose hemorrhage~~

"Computer, what's the update on the carbon nanotubes project?" I call out to my empty room like a loser as I pretend like I have an AI system that can actually respond back and help me. I pull out the files on my computer and put the information next to my mode display. I've been looking into how to climb without needing to expose my hands and feet to the actual surface I intend to climb. And uhh welp. I had to move away from spiders and focus on the abilities of geckos. See, spiders are great at using Van Der Waal forces to climb shit. But because of their small size and weight, the force that their hairy legs produce can support way more than what their body weighs, allowing for all that climbing and agility. Now because I am a spider enhanced super soldier I can climb with ease when it comes to my own "naturally" exposed body. But that does not apply to my clothes.

So because geckos can also use Van Der Waal forces to climb and stick to shit but are also way bigger than most spiders…well I had to think a little outside the box. In my previous life I've read about the power of gecko physics being used in technology. Like in the 2020s there was this tape that's not sticky at all but can stick to anything when moved in a certain way. It could also hold on to weights that are exponentially greater than the weight of the material itself. Now because of that technology and others like it, I got a little cheat to work with. Now making the cheat was a bitch but once you can bend magic and science to your will. Well it becomes just a little bit easier and faster.

This gecko adhesive that I made is based on carbon nanotubes. The tubes are so small they imitate the nanoscopic branches that spider hairs and gecko pads produce. More so the gecko because it's tighter and more uniform so the Van Der Waal forces produced can be as strong as I need it to be. And oh boy is it strong. I can already hold up my entire body weight with just two raw and uncovered fingers. With this nano toothbrush I can hold up my entire body with the surface area of a fucking pencil eraser. And that just with what I can currently make in my bedroom laboratory. In the future I plan on making it even smaller and tighter, to get it as close to the perfection of geckos as can be.

So how am I going to apply the adhesive to the gloves and soles of my shoes at will? Well that's where my new bio-electricity comes into play. I ahh I got an upgrade to my chi production and now it's a version of venom blast. It's nowhere near the lethality and power of Miles Morales but I can sparkle a little electricity out of my finger tips. This way I can activate the carbon nanotubes to bend and flex so I can stick to stuff with my suit on. So yeah the gloves will be a thick plastic like material for durability and flexibility but with pads of carbon nanotubes on the tips of my fingers and thumb. That way if the nanotubes get damaged or are no longer workable, I can swap it out with a new pad.

Next the forearm and gauntlets. I think a simple covering should be fine. Maybe have some room on the underside for me to store a vial or two of my web removal spray. It's a highly advanced and complicated enzyme that requires a precise measurement of vinegar and coconut oil…that's it. Vinegar and coconut oil turns out to be a great dissolver for my webbings. I think developing my own synthetic webbings and having a web shooter slot would be useful in the future. If I don't need it I can always toss it at Pete whenever he's low cause I already know his childish ass will forget about it and run out at the worst possible times. Now I do want the forearm/gauntlet to be made out of metal. Maybe have a web design over the top but that would be kinda tacky....well I guess having a spider everything theme is already tacky and a gimmick in itself. I think having a mystic shield inscription wouldn't be too bad. I can pull out my shields whenever I need to and if I need a bigger shield, I can summon one with my hands.

For the upper arms and shoulders I can just keep it as simple bulletproof armor pieces without any special components or gadgets. All I really need is something to connect the suit and bring it all together. I guess the same can be said for the thigh and shins. I want the suit to be a simple and sleek-ish design so I don't lose out on agility but I also want it to be intimidating and bullet proof. Well I do want the thigh to have a holster for a gun and a knife for emergency usage. I don't want to constantly have to clean blood off my gloves if I'm going to be….uh I guess the spider punisher. SIGH. This is going to feel a little bit cringe and embarrassing on paper but someone needs to clean up these streets and create order.

Uh right, the legs. For the legs and below I just want it armored up with some room for storage of some sort. I'll come up with the specs later but that's the general idea. Most of the weaponry I need I can conjure up myself but that would sort of reveal that I'm a magic welding web slinger. Not that I mind scaring the bad guys with magic, I'm just a little worried about what the sorcerers will say if there's a magic user going around cleaning up the streets by leaving dead bodies everywhere.

With the shoes I just want something comfortable but durable. I think I'll just get use a pair of regular shoes and cover them with metal or something…yeah I think that'll work. I mean the original green goblin did wear foam composites for his outfit. So yeah a adidas ultra boosts wrapped ina shell of very durable metal sound good.

Now back to the thigh. I think a single hand gun holster should be fine. It's not like I'll be needing much to end a person's oxygen supply. I can always design my own firearm with some sort of enchantment. It'll be a while before I finish the final design but maybe something with sound suppression? For the knife I think a simple enchanted knife should be fine. Just something that can be sharp, clean and cut through other metals using magic on its edge. It would be kinda cool if the knife could extend into a sword but that's too much super Sentai for my suit right now. So I guess for now I'll just have a slot for a knife and sheath. Then some time in the future I'll add a slot for a firearm when I do get around to either build on from scratch or off the street….

Speaking of super sentai, I guess I'm going the kamen rider route with the costume because it's a simple all black undersuit with 'silver' armor parts and a helmet that's the highlight of the design....oh and there's a silk scarf that will continuously float and wave in the air. The only colors besides black and silver are the purple eyes that can glow on and off and the green scarf. I don't know if I should cry or laugh at myself because I like the intimation factor of a glowing white spider skull and purple eyes floating in the darkness but goddamn this is some kamen rider type shit. I even have a belt that holds all my extra emergency utilities for civilians, injuries and whatever the might occured in the future. As for why a green scarf? Well my mother's primary element is wind.
