Chapitre 24: End has Warned Her

Angus was starting to get on my nerves. While End on the other hand was doing his best to soothe the air between us.

Do I care if there was an air of hostility between us? No, I do not. However, they were still guests at The Belle, but I cannot help but wish that they would just go away.

Why? Because, all the staff was afraid, and 99.9% of them were all females.

They may not say anything, but the moment Angus appears with End in tow, everyone would be silent. It was not the silence that was comforting. It was the kind of silence that was filled with tension and fear.

I tried asking what had happened. I was the manager after all. I needed to know what was wrong. How could I help them if none of them were talking? How can I remove the threat if they are not saying anything?

I closed my eyes and listened to the sounds inside the inn. Thankfully it was mid-afternoon during a low season. Everything was quiet, namely because few patrons were staying with us right now. There was no urgent matter that needed to be attended to. However, both Angus and End were currently outside bickering. I could see them pushing each other's chest. Whatever they were bickering about, was none of my business.

I looked at my phone and wondered how my kids are. They were again 'Riley's Confectionery'. From the looks of things, they seem to enjoy their time there with Riley's kids. I was happy for them. I have never seen the baker's children, so I guess; they were the same age as mine.

There were a lot of things that I had to do. The kids having fun was one less thing to worry about. What I am worried about now are my people. There was something wrong with my people and I have to get to the bottom of things.

There was a loud slam, as End got inside the inn. The force he used was enough to destroy the whole door. While I could hear End stomping his feet up to his room, I glanced outside, only to find Angus nowhere in my line of vision. I could care less if he got lost somewhere. He was a grown man.

End also slammed the door to his room. Of the two, he was the less obnoxious. And I kinda liked the way he treated my people when Angus was not around. So it was fitting to check on him.

"End?" I called out as I knocked on his door.

There was an inhuman snarl before the door swung open. I took a step back when I saw the look on his face.

Rage.

And his eyes, just like Duncan's, were glowing red. While Duncan had this silver glow on them, his were bright red. Like the eyes of a devil.

"Julie?" He asked, there was a trace of confusion in his voice. I bet he was not expecting me to check on him.

I could only nod and take another step back. He must have noticed my action because he rubbed his face in a frustrated manner and said, "Sorry. I thought you were Angus."

"It's okay. I saw him walking away and decided to check on you."

There was a ghost of a smile on red lips, before he said, "Check on me huh?"

"Yes," I hesitantly replied.

End sighed, and rubbed the back of his head. "I'm fine. Angus was being a shithead. We were here to check on someone."

"Ah. That's why." I still don't get it but I might as well agree.

"No, you don't get it. The person we wanted to check out was good." There was a trace of admiration in his voice. Whatever their objective was, he must have liked the result. "She cared. I told him we should go back but he wanted to try something."

"You don't like what he was planning?"

"Julie, Angus is dangerous." He told me. he had to grab one of my hands to make me focus on what he was trying to say. "Especially if he cannot have the results he wanted. I told him I'm out. That we need to go home. The stupid man just won't listen."

"So, do I know this person?" I asked, I tugged my hand and he let go. However, there was a sudden heat in them that was not there. I have no idea what it means though.

"Oh yeah, you do," he replied.

That caused me to narrow my eyes and examine his face. The latter was doing his best to dodge my scrutiny. It made me more curious than angry though. I have a hutch, but it doesn't hurt to confirm it.

"Who?" I asked in a stern voice.

"Julie, please. Stay away from Angus. He is a top-grade mofo that has no morals when it comes to getting what he wants." The other man pleaded. He was fearful, that was so obvious. For who though, was the question.

"I'm asking who you guys are observing. I didn't ask what kind of person Angus is," I replied, irritation could clearly be heard in my voice.

He was silent. I guess he was thinking about what he should do. To be honest, I don't want my hunch to be correct. Then again, fate was never kind to me.

"You."

This made my heart beat faster. 'Damn,' I told myself. 'This should be fucking interesting.' The words that End said proved I was correct.

"But, honestly, Duncan did not know we are here. I promise. We are here on our own accord." It was the closest thing I could get to a confession.

Do I even need it? He came clean, that would be plus points for him. Also, he did his best to make sure everyone working with me was fine. I guess he changed when he saw how I treated people around me.

With arms akimbo, I raised my right eyebrow, The Rock style, and waited. End was frustrated, and he was blabbering. I don't even know half of the things he was talking about.

Gods? Mate? Immortal?

What in God's name is this man taking?

"End," I called out. He quickly stopped talking and called me a name that I would never associate with me.

"Yes, my queen?" He must have realized what he called me. Because he started banging his head on the wall. I could hear him muttering, 'stupid, stupid, stupid,' over and over again.

"I'll just forget what you just called me, shall we?" I told him. He peered down at me, a sheepish smile on his soft lips.

"But please, heed my plea. Stay away from Angus. Please. Duncan is not here, you might..."

"I can take care of myself. Whatever he is cooking, I'll dish it out. Don't worry." I cut off the rest of his words. But did he stop? Nope, he was the one to finish our conversations, leaving an ominous shadow with his parting words.

"Julie, he is not what he appeared to be. Neither of us is. I am bound by oath, but he is not." He stood up straight and took both of my hands in his. "All I can do right now is watch over your people. I swear, by the gods that I serve, they will not be harmed."

I felt something piercing my skin, and I suddenly felt dizzy. "I share a drop of my blood, it will help you. But I do hope that you and Angus will never be alone. You will not survive, and Duncan will never recover."
