Jack was jerked back to reality when he heard Ava swear. 'Jesus, what the hell is this?'

'Paul, hit the volume,' Ray snapped.

'… River, originally believed to have drowned near Seattle in mid-August in a tragic accident, and Seattle resident Ava Dane are both wanted for questioning in connection with a double homicide in New Orleans.'

Two faces were flashed up, a broad-faced with blonde hair and a shriveled old man. Jack felt his world tilt. Both men were in the pay of Maski. Together, they'd nearly killed Jack. But Marcy had arrived on the scene just as Jack had started to fight back. She'd killed both men so she could have Jack herself – and he'd only escaped with his life thanks to Amon Blood joining the fight.

But Marcy was now putting her murders to further use.

The television cameras came in for a close-up of Marcy and Hal. Flash bulbs popped and glared from the front rows of the conference.
