Alex gritted his teeth as he managed to pull out all the muscles off of the hands of man and all that was left in sight were his broken bones which were barely attached to his body now. 

One would expect the person to die after facing such torture but to the horror of the people around, the man was not only still breathing, but he was also fully conscious even now. The man who was being tortured had closed his eyes at some point in time hoping for death to embrace him but the pain he felt from his hands reminded him that he was still alive.
