Gideon placed his hand on his library to decide his starting hand. 'I don't know how many MTG players would kill to choose their starting hands. They would have me so much. Do I count as a cheater?'
"Alright, definitely want Leyline of the Meek, Mox Pearl, and Jeweled Lotus. Legion's Landing would be useful. Then try a basic land and Eiganjo Castle to make sure I can use mana in the first turn. Finally, Valiant Guard is the only single-cost creature I have, and it would be a shame to waste mana. Let's see how this goes." Gideon mumbled to himself, pulling back from the library.
As soon as his hand left the fruit, Leyline of the Meek glowed and disappeared from his hand. Next, glowing lines flowed across the beach he was standing on. Gideon smiled, thinking 'It definitely pays to be a cheater.'
He looked down at Mox Pearl and Jeweled Lotus. "Now how do I get you two to play? Hah, I am mumbling a lot today. I just rhymed, pff, stress is definitely getting to me." He sighed to himself.
'They are costless spells after all, do I have to use some energy to make them appear anyways? Was it as simple as willing the spells to...' Then the cards flashed white, disappeared, and two beautiful artifacts flashed into existence in front of his hand. The suspended artworks then promptly fell into the sands in front of him. 'Guess it is as easy as willing the spells to activate. Good thing I haven't summoned any creatures yet, else dropping these artifacts would be embarassing.'
"Alright, now to see if I 'own' this empty stretch of dirt clinging to the Redline. Supposedly, I just gotta stab the land card into the dirt." Gideon mumbled, walking off the beach and onto the grassy plain behind him. He bent down and touched the card to the plain before him, the card shimmered, glowed white, and melted into the soil. The land seemed to glow faintly and 'felt' special to Gideon. "I guess I can claim anything as mine if no one else disagrees. Though maybe that's how its always worked."
Gideon walked back to his library on the beach. He pulled out Legion's Landing and directed the enchantment underneath his library. He pulled on the feeling of his plain and the energy rushed out of his land, through his body, into the card, and an orange flag grew from the sand up behind the library. He felt a trace of mental fatigue set in after the legendary enchantment activated.
Gideon closed his eyes and took a breath, centering himself for his last few spells before the day ends. Gideon opened his eyes and flinched back. A pale face was staring at him just a foot away. Looking closely, Gideon realized that the person standing in front of him was the vampire token created by Legion's Landing.
"Hello, do you have a name?" Gideon asked.
"..."
"Can you speak?" Gideon tried again.
"..."
"Can you understand me at all?" Gideon probed.
"..."
"How about a salute, anything that can show you understand me?" Gideon pleaded. The token stood up strait and gave a firm military salute, then froze in that position.
"You can only follow orders can't you?" Gideon lamented.
"..." The token remained rigid in its salute.
"At ease," Gideon monotoned. The token relaxed, its gaze never leaving Gideon's, not even a blink to show it could be alive.
"I really hope creatures aren't bots like tokens, otherwise this island will drive me insane long before I am ready to leave. Maybe even before my 'novice protection' ends," Gideon grumbled. "Moving on, Valiant Guard, I choose you."
"..."
"... Definitely going insane before my 'novice protection' ends." Gideon mumbled to himself as he picked up Mox Pearl and Jeweled Lotus. He willed the mana of Mox Pearl to flow through him to cast Valiant Guard. The card floated in front of him, glowed as all the rest, and expanded into the form of the female soldier shown on the card.
To prevent himself any more disappointment, Gideon turned away from his newest creature to summon his commander. Sacrificing Jeweled Lotus, the beautiful ornament fracturing into pure energy, Gideon allowed the mana to flow through him and into one of his commanders, Prava of the Steel Legion. The card floated out from within him and next to Valiant Guard, glowing and expanding into Prava.
"Not bad, my lord. Three creatures, two enchantments, and an artifact to end your turn." Prava stated.
"You can speak!" Gideon cheered.
"Of course, did you think us mindless pawns?" Prava reprimanded.
"Based off my 'conversation' with him, yes," Gideon replied, indicating over his shoulder to the token while fighting to stay focused.
"Tokens are oft summoned in large numbers for easy sacrifices and do not regain memories of their previous summonings as creatures do, as tokens only exist once. It would be cruel if they were sentient." Prava enlightened Gideon.
"Good to know. You are missing two by the way." Gideon said, turning back to his library with difficulty.
"Missing two what?" Prava inquired.
"Artifacts, at least I hope you are., Gideon responded, the last part directed to himself. He put his hand back onto the floating fruit, paused a moment, and pulled it back smiling. He was now holding two more cards, Mox Amber and Elixir of Immortality.
"You are out of mana sources, how do you expect to summon two more artifacts?" Prava questioned.
"Mox Amber is a costless mana source so long as I control a legendary creature," Gideon informed her with a smile. He willed Mox Amber into existence and barely caught it. Standing with difficulty, Gideon addressed his three creatures, "I really hope I can trust the three of you to keep me alive until tomorrow morning. You two obey Prava until I wake up."
Gideon then willed the energy of Mox Amber through him and into Elixir of Immortality and caught the bottle before it fell. Dropping to his knees, Gideon thought to himself, 'I really hope I get used to this soon, otherwise, I am going to spend more time unconscious than conscious to get my army up to facing the World Government.' He carefully set Elixir of Immortality into the sand beside Mox Amber and Mox Pearl, then fell into the sand right beside the artifacts. He slowly drifted into unconsciousness under the watchful eyes of his three protectors.
