Chapitre 45: Hunter Analysis
As soon as he left, the students came back to life. There were arguments of who would made it and who would not, as folks began staking money and other worths of valuables on who would be among the first two hundred and who would be sent to other academies.
Hayden and Hunter weren't left out. They didn't participate in the gambling or arguing, but they were invested in the conversation of do you think we made it.
"So what do you think Hunter, are we in the first two hundred or not ?" Hayden asked.
For a moment Hunter was silent, as he slowly recounted all the major words, that were said from when the announcement to reach the house came in to the principal speech.
"Mhmm" He grunted slowly.
He looked up at Hayden and smiled.
"For you brother, I'm pretty sure you would make the first two hundred, not sure of the one hundred range.
"Yes" Hayden fist bump the air as if he had already been told the result and not just rejoicing based on a speculative success. Some people gave them an eyebrow raised before looking away.
'Huh, he really trusts my words that much.' Hunter thought as he mentally face palmed his face.
"What about you Hunter, where do you think you would fall on ? He asked again with pure excitement on his face.
"Well me ..." Hunter paused as he stared into the distance, he would have loved to look up at the sky before saying his own verdict like a condemned man at the gallows, but he didn't want to risk the hurting and temporary blinding that comes from staring at the sun. Though he was under a tree, but it seemed that this fig tree was the one that was cursed in the bible back in his previous life. It provided little to no shade, but a good reference point for location.
'Besides I wondered why the principal stared at me and smirked. Though it doesn't matter if I pray for trouble to stay away from me, it would still come. Choas, trobule, it doesn't matter. They are all the same and one with me.'
"Well me.." He repeated himself again." ...I don't think I would make the first two hundred, probably the three hundred if lucky was my first name or the four hundred if my I actually completed the task.
"You think it's that bad. What about the chick I heard you and her were moving together?" Hayden asked, his face now a bit sour after hearing Hunter rating himself.
Hunter broke into a wide smile, as he reminiscent their encounter.
"Ohh Silva, she would most likely make a hundred". With a pause, he continued.
"She's good".
"She would make a hundred and you that came in with her need to change your name to Lucky to make a three hundred. Sorry Hunter, but the calculations aren't calculating". Hayden said as he stared at th ground thinking.
"The thing is this Hayden". Upon calling his name, his head perked up as he looked at Hunter who had something important to say.
"I didn't work my way from the beginning to close to the end, you were the one who did and so your achievements are yours, not mine. In some sort of a twist, you might be given a higher score because unlike the others, you were the only one saddled with a burden, that's me". Hunter replied with a wryly smile
The look of realisation dawned on Haydens face as he realized that though at the beginning their plan was infallible, but when faced with an individual ranking system, it was an everyman by himself. So this didn't apply to themselves alone, but also others who made contracts or partnership and did little to nothing to achieve the desired target but relied on others and didn't still make it.
"So, if both of us had reached the house and made it cleanly, you would be among the first two hundred?"Hayden asked with a slight bit of impatience in his tone.
"Yes" Hunter replied. But before he could allow Hayden to pick up his next line of thought, he quickly added.
"Don't blame yourself, it happened. you don't need to worry. Besides if I don't make it here, I would still get a direct admission to the other universities, right ?".
After a brief moment of silence Hayden replied.
"Right".
"Yeah, so worry less Hayden." Hunter said with a genuine smile on his face.
Slowly Hayden looked up to the sky and chuckled slightly for some moments before turning back back Hunter with a big smile on his face.
Putting his left arm around Hunter's neck , he brought his head closer to Hunter's ear and said;
"So tell me about the new chick, I heard she's pretty. Silva, right ".
"Ughh, my neck!" Hunter screamed.
