Chapitre 44: Chapter 44: Ghosts in the Garden

“Get them inside,” Caden ordered under his breath to Miles and Asher. “The mortals can take the path up to The Roaming Minstrel and get out of here.”

“Caden,” Edith began, looking out at the advancing darkness full of vampires and other nightmares. “I can help.”

“And do what? Grab every vampire by the face?” Caden turned to Edith sharply, “No, go to the others. Get out of here.”

Edith felt the sharp sting of rejection and spun around to head back to the house.

“Edith…” Caden called after her, regret in his voice, but she didn’t turn around.

Edith walked quickly away from the gate and took the stone path that led further into the dark, dreamlike garden. The dim sun-like moon hung in the cold, black sky, casting a dim light onto the land below.

Edith came to a large rock near the curve of the path and she sat down dismally. Her emotions overwhelmed her and Edith began to cry, making sure no one could hear.

As she sobbed silently from her seat on the rock, she heard a voice.
