Chapitre 54: CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR

The beeping sounds of a machine made me open my eyes and blink a couple of times to customize myself to the lights of the room. I raised my hand in confusion but froze when I couldn't raise my hand higher.

I looked at my hand and found a needle stuck in it following by a small tube connecting to an IV bag, making me furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "You fainted after your breakdown, so we brought you to the hospital."

I looked to my side to see my mother standing up and walk toward me, taking my hand in hers. "Where is Max?" Was the first thing that came out of my mouth.

My mother shook her head and brought my hand to her lips, kissing my knuckles. "We don't know honey. We didn't hear anything from Max since he left school."

I pointed at my bag and asked my mom to pass it to me. "Why do you need it?" She asked letting go of my hand and walked toward the sofa, grabbing my bag and give it to me. I unzipped my bag and picked my phone, unlocking it and dialled Max number. It rang a couple of times and went to voicemail, sighing I ended up the call and tried again but with no success.

Where are you Max? I sent him through our mind-link but still no response. I gave up after four times and decided to try later. "I need to talk to Leah. I want to get out of here. No. I need to get out of here." I protested, trying to get out of the hospital bed.

"You have to stay here until tomorrow. You're too weak to leave and it's dangerous for the babies!" My mother freaked out on me and tried to hold me in bed.

"Mom please! I need to see if Max is okay." I cried out and tried to get out of the bed, screaming in pain when a sharp pain shot through my lower abdomen. I clutched at my mother's shoulder as my feet turned jelly. "Ouch! Mom, it hurts."

My mom tried to steady me but now that I was pregnant, I was heavier than her. She stumbles a little as she sneaked her arms around my rounded belly. "Help! Someone I need help in here!" My mother shouted as I grunted loudly in so much pain.

I felt my uterus contract and soon after that I felt something wet between my legs and a whiff of blood ran through my nose, making me look down at the red stain dots on the floor. I looked back up at my mother, scare shitless of losing my babies. "Mommy." The door burst open, and Leah rushed in, panicking when she saw the situation and barked orders.

"Put her in the bed now! I need a tranquilizer not too strong and someone to clean this mess. I want a blood test and bring me a stretcher." Leah snapped her fingers rapidly and barked more orders, putting her gloves on. "I need you to leave the room Mrs. Armstrong."

My mother nodded and gave me a quick kiss on the forehead before leaving the room. "Okay. Let's begin." Leah started to work on me and checked if everything was okay. She injected me with the tranquilizer and let them put me on the stretcher.

"Where are we going?" I whispered quietly as the men did their work. Leah squeezed my hand in reassurance and brushed a few locks out of my face. "I can't lose them Leah." I choked out as I cried silently.

She soothed me and ran her hand on my belly. "It's okay. You're not going to lose them I promise." She smiled surely at me and nodded her head at the men. "I'll be right back. Take her to the emergency room." Leah patted my hand and strolled away through the hospital halls.

They brought me to the emergency room and put everything ready for Leah, leaving me alone in the room. The instant they left the room Leah came in, smiling at me as she put on a pair of new gloves.

"Ready to see your babies mommy?" I nodded my head and took a deep breath. Max, I need you. I mentally said and hoped that Max received the message. Leah raised the hospital gown and pulled the sheets to cover my lower part. Leah applied the water-soluble gel on my belly, making me shiver from the cold gel.

She grabbed the transducer and gently applied it against my skin. The sound of waves coming off the machine could be heard in the room and soon enough the black and white picture appeared on the screen.

The harmonic sounds of heartbeats beating as one made me sigh in relief. "Oh. These are beautiful heartbeats." Leah gushed as she stared at the screen. "Look at that, these babies are already very strong, and all grown up, but don't stress too much, maybe next time you won't be so lucky." She scolded at me, and I nodded, still scared after what happened.

"Everything seems perfectly fine; the babies are a bit shaken up for the amount of stress but nothing big to worry about." She put the transducer away and wiped the gel off, pulling the gown down.

The male nurses came in and took me back to my room, putting me in my bed. As soon as the nurses left my mother entered the room and asked me if everything was alright. I only nodded and turned to the side, rubbing my belly, ignoring her presence.

The door opened and a masculine scent, mixed with chocolate and berries filled my nose and I knew already who that was. "Are the babies okay?" The room was greeted by nothing than silence.

The air between us seem to shift and there was a lot of tension in the room that you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. My Mother cleared her throat awkwardly and moved toward me. "I think I'm being a third wheel so I'll leave the two of you alone so you can talk." My mother whispered as she kissed my temple.

She turned to leave but I stopped her. "No don't leave. The one leaving is Max." I buried my face in the pillow and brought my legs up, my arm wrapped around my belly securely as I closed my eyed tight, letting my silent tears fall.

"What? Why?" Max started to raise his voice and tried to come near me, but the door opened, and Leah walked in.

"Max. I need you to leave the room. I don't need her to stress again and putting the babies life at risk so leave please. I'll keep you informed." Leah stated business-like and nodded toward the door.

Max sighed and walked toward me, running his hands through my hair and gave my forehead a kiss. "I'm sorry. Just let me explain." He whispered against my forehead and rubbed my belly before straightening up and turned to walk out of the door.

"Let me talk to Max alone please." I turned around and looked at Leah who sighed and told everyone to leave the room, closing it behind her on her way out. I sighed and looked at him sadly. "Max." I shook my head and bit my lips, trying hard not to cry. "Where were you?"

He rubbed the back of his neck and sighed tiredly. "I had things to take care of in the pack. New arrival and the disappearance of Lucy." When he said the disappearance of Lucy, my ears perked up and a sudden fear came up to me, remembering the threat of Lucy at school this morning.

"Where did Lucy go?" I asked scared of Lucy possible planning something against my babies and I couldn't help but feel nervous about all of this. I sighed deeply and kept breathing in and out, remembering what Leah said and for the sake of my babies. I tried not to stress so much about it. "Did she leave the pack?"

Max nodded and walked toward me, grabbing my hands. "She's not going to hurt you. I promise you that." He brought my hands toward his mouth and planted a kiss on my knuckles.

"Who's the new arrival?" I couldn't help but ask about it, and for the way Max froze he or she must be someone important.

Max removed my hands and caressed my face lightly. "It's a surprise. But she's here actually. Do you want to see her?"

I nodded my head eagerly and looked at the door curiously as Max opened it and a tall, gorgeous girl walked through the door and I couldn't help but put my hands on my mouth as Melissa walked inside of the room.

"Oh my God you're here!" I cried out as I pulled her into a tight embrace, pulling away to look at how much she changed. "You look so gorgeous. My brother is going to oh my God my brother! He's going to die when he sees you."

She smiled wobbly at me as her eyes got teary. "I missed him so much and you're pregnant!" She squealed excitedly and touched my belly, rubbing it a bit. "Who would have thought that you and my brother turned out to be mates." She sent a glare to his brother who rubbed his neck nervously and turned back to look at me.

"Yeah. Who would have thought?" I glanced at Max and looked back at Melissa. "We are finally complete like we were back then, and you don't know who's back!"

Melissa's eyes widened as she looked at me with a curious face. "Who?"

"Andre! He's staying at his parent's old house." We talked about how much she missed and how everything changed until she had to leave. I asked Leah if I can go home, she said I could but as long as I don't stress out too much.

"You're ready to leave?" Melissa asked me as she pulled me into a side hug and walked with me out of the hospital building where Max was waiting for us. I got in with the help of Max as we drove to his house. When we arrived, I called my mom and told her that Leah let me out of the hospital and that I was now at Max.

"I can't believe how much I've missed." Melissa moaned as she slumped in the living room sofa, turning the TV on. I slumped next to her and cuddled up to her. "I still can't believe that I'm going to be an aunt of two. This is so crazy."

"I know right. And I'm the one who's pregnant." I sighed as I placed my head on her shoulder. "Your brother is driving me insane."

"Do you want to talk about this?" She turned the TV off and looked at me serious. "Do I need to break his balls for you?"

I laughed between tears and looked at her pouting. "I feel like he doesn't care about this." I cried in my hands. "I can't do this on my own. I'm scared and freaked out about this whole thing." I ran my fingers through my hair and sniffed. "I'm not ready for this. I'm going to be an awful mother." I flung myself at her and cried my heart out.

"No, you're not. You're amazing and I'm sure these babies are so lucky to have you as their mother." Melissa pulled away and grabbed my face in her hands, wiping my tears away.

I walked out of the office and went to the kitchen, when I walked past the living room, I heard Melissa and Alexandra talking. "I can't believe how much I've missed." Melissa whined as she slumped on the sofa, turning the TV on.

Alexandra slumped next to her tiredly and curled up against Melissa. "I still can't believe that I'm going to be an aunt of two. This is so crazy."

"I know right. And I'm the one who's pregnant." She sighed and rested her head on Melissa's shoulder. "Your brother is driving me insane." My wolf protested when she said that, but I shut him off.

"Do you want to talk about this?" She turned the TV off and looked at Alexandra with a serious look on her face. "Do I need to break his balls for you?" I growled lowly when she said that and glared hard at her. I think I regret bringing her back here.

Alexandra laughed and cried at the same time as she pouted cutely. "I feel like he doesn't care about this." My heart clenched when she said that. Of course, I do. How could she ever think that? "I can't do this on my own. I'm scared and freaked out about this whole thing."

I looked at her sadly, not liking when she cries "I'm not ready for this. I'm going to be an awful mother." She flung herself at my sister and cried her heart out, making me step from behind the wall and started to walk toward them.

"No, you're not. You're amazing and I'm sure these babies are so lucky to have you as their mother." Melissa shook her head at me as she ran her hands up and down Alexandra's back. She pulled away from her and grabbed Alexandra's face in her hands, wiping her tears away.

I backed away slowly and turned around to leave the living room. I walked back to my office and closed the door. "Are you okay man?" Chris asked me the moment I walked inside of the office.

"No, I'm not." I ran my hands through my hair and slumped my body against the door, sliding on the ground. I brought my knees to my chest and leaned my head against the door. "I'm an idiot."

Chris sighed and walked toward me, sitting next to me. "I know." I shot him a glare but didn't say anything. "You're going to be an amazing Father." He patted my knees and gave me a reassurance squeeze.

"Thanks man. I really needed that."
