Chapter 64: Arriving at Bayam
The next morning, some Mandated Punishers arrived at the ship to inquire about what had happened. As an envoy of an Orthodox Church, William had no problem explaining the various apparitions, but he did not mention the strange phenomenon that plagued Bansy's roots. In fact, the Mandated Punishers didn't get along too well with the Nighthawks, so William limited himself to the point so as not to drag out a possible awkward scene. And without further ado, the ship left in the direction of Bayam. Although William was a little worried about what might happen, he was definitely not qualified to meddle in such matters, so the best thing he could do was leave the place.
'Now, how do I deal with those two?' Honestly, he wasn't sure how to react to his subordinates. He still felt a little embarrassed about last night, and it didn't help that Anna was constantly approaching him. It was also a little awkward talking to Arthur, considering that Arthur treated him like little less than a God, especially after the fight against the strange creature. 'Maybe I should find a way to be treated more normally.' William thought absently as he looked at the sea. The sky was cloudy and there was quite a bit of wind, it was one of those days when going sailing is not all that fun. The storm was messing up his hair in a rather unpleasant way, although he already looked a little wild on a daily basis.
"Your Holiness," he heard Arthur's voice from behind, so he turned around. "Doesn't the rain bother you?"
William smiled. "This cool sea temperature reminds me of a few things, and it's not like I'm going to catch a cold."
Arthur seemed a little emotional. "When I was young, my grandfather used to take me fishing with his little sailboat." He then looked at the sky. "Sometimes we ran into storms like this, which made me really afraid for my life."
William listened quietly as he continued to watch the waves crash against the ship.
"However, he always managed to remain calm," Arthur continued. "Although the sea is not the domain of the Goddess, he said that as long as we have a clear heart, the Goddess will watch over 'Her' believers."
At these words, William felt a little bad. Considering that he had been dealing with such high-level beings since he came to this world, he felt that the Goddess would not consider him a true believer. In fact, this was true to some extent. He did not worship the Evernight Goddess from the depths of his heart, as one would do with a God, but rather he believed in her good intentions for the world, taking into account the doctrine that the Church followed.
Indeed, all Gods protected the world, but not all of them cared about ordinary people. Because of this, William had a deep respect for the Goddess. "Praise the Lady," William touched his chest four times in a circle. Arthur followed suit.
It took a couple of days until they could see solid land.
"Bayam, this is the capital of the Rorsted Archipelago," William commented casually as they disembarked.
"It's changed a lot since the last time I visited this place," Anna looked around with a curious smile. This place was also known as the Spice Archipelago and was home to a variety of exotic spices, with the plantations of these products supporting the economy. The island of the Blue Mountain, where Bayam was located, occupied more than half of the archipelago, which was mostly covered by forests. It had gold, silver, copper, coal, iron, and other minerals, as well as a great variety of fruits due to the fertility of its land. For these reasons, the first generation of settlers named the coastal city they built "City of Generosity." They believed it was a land of treasures promised by the gods, where milk and honey flowed.
As he walked down the street, suddenly William felt something. He glanced at his two subordinates before speaking. "There is something I want to check, could you find a tavern or something to spend the night?" he asked them. "Anna can contact me later, the trip will continue tomorrow."
"Yes, sir," Arthur immediately accepted the request. Anna simply nodded.
"See you later." William turned and walked towards the alleys. He didn't have to walk far to find who he was looking for.
"I didn't expect to see you here," he said. The person who was walking stopped and turned around. He was a young gentleman with gold-rimmed glasses, neat black hair, and dark brown eyes. There was surprise in his eyes.
"It seems like we always end up bumping into each other in inopportune places, Klein," William sighed with a smile.
