Though their radical practices won't be looked up fondly by the future generations they would be killed in the present day for it.

But this was what drove the world forward, radicals that abandon their morals for the betterment of their own goal. The majority of inventions in the world were made in an attempt to kill your enemies anyway.

Weapons that were slowly commodified and applied to regular life. Hell, one can say that life is about killing each other in new ways. It's what drives us, it's what makes us do better. This is what this bunch of followers of knowledge, or scientists we call them.
