Chapitre 27: The Perfect Human
"You know.... you were the one who inspired the Dragonborn Project, Shizi. So I'm really glad that you are here. I'm so happy that you're back!"
"What do you mean?" Leon gritted his teeth.
"Well, you are the closest to a perfect human after all. I wanted to make several copies of you, children who may become even more perfect than you. Hahaha!"
Wolfe found this man's laughter so sickening, and how he would talk the way children usually does.
He then heard footsteps, and tugged at Leon's sleeves. But Leon just shushed him again.
He can't let Mickey Xing hear that he was with someone else. This is between him and Leon, if this psychopath learned about Wolfe Fang and their engagement....
But eventually, there was no need for him to alarm him, as the rest of the people at the poker table shouted.
"Intruders! Get away from the phone and Mr. Long!"
They raised their guns. Leon just lazily looked at them...
And aimed his gun toward the unconscious man on the floor.
"Can't you see I'm busy talking here with your Jade Emperor? If you idiots keep on interrupting, you will have to clean up Mr. Long's brain fluid from the floor."
The people outnumbers him, but his intimidating and self-assured tone made then hesitate, their hands shaking. Mr. Long was important to them after all, Leon had guessed.
He must be that fat astrologer that was seen with Adrik Lebed.
"Mr. Long.... This guy must be the one you rely on giving the natal charts and performing all sorts of occult stuff to pick the right child, right?" Leon told Mickey Xing.
"As for the one that detects their genes for eugenics.... It must be your family itself."
Mickey Xing just agreed happily in a heartbeat. "Yes, yes! You have figured everything so fast as always, my Shizi! Ah, you and I would have been so perfect....."
" If only you allowed me to take your genes and mix them together to make the Absolute Human."
Wolfe had no idea what this guy was saying.
All he knows was that these two had history, and this guy had MANY loose screws in the head.
Leon said with a leveled tone. "Your delusions about this 'perfect human'.... It has to stop, Mickey Xing. There's no such thing as a perfect human."
"Oh, not yet! But there will be!"
Mickey Xing enthusiasm was sounded so much like a child's fascination over toys that it became even more disturbing to hear.
"You see, a perfect human would be someone with high physical and mental quality. They rarely get diseases, they are built large and strong like heroes, and they are not affected by any mental trauma they may encounter."
"And you think this will turn them into perfect humans?" Leon could barely maintain his patience. "Taking them away from their fathers and mother and having them raised by robots?"
"Oh, that's not enough, Shizi. That's only the Nurture part. The child's Nature must also be perfect, and we are simply keeping that perfect Nature unstained by giving them the right nurturing."
"We do not pick just about anyone. We study their family background for months before they are born, as well as their faces and their fortunes. Science and astrology combined to reach one single goal: To pick children that may have high physical and mental capacity."
"And then, by taking away the children's capacity to understand mental strain and high emotions..... It checks out their vulnerability to trauma, right?"
Leon felt like he was getting nauseated again the more this delusional rat speaks.
He had always been like this, Mixing and misconstruing several concepts together just to fit his own foolish beliefs.
Nature vs. nurture, mien shang, eugenics..... It had all combined into this sick project of his. This Dragonborn Project.
"Then what? After you managed to be successful with this project..... What do you intend to do?" His tone dripped with hatred and sarcasm. "World domination?"
"Oh, I don't plan to dominate the world. I'm actually raising perfect leaders, you see. My Dragonborns, once they reached the age of 15, will be released from the Jade Palace. Hatching from their eggs."
"Of course, we would still be keeping watch of their further development. But still, this would lead them to eventually rise to the top and become leaders that will make correct decions, no room for any error."
"I am saving the world, Shizi!" Mickey Xing chuckled.
"You are saving no one, Mickey Xing. You are just a misguided, deluded man." Leon said without any mercy.
This caused a pause on the other side of the line.
Then, the soft voice changed tone, this time losing that fake jollyness and sounding cold.
"That's because you wouldn't let me, Shizi. You think I'm weak. That I can't do anything good. Just like everyone else."
Leon clenched his fist. Mickey Xing is a lost cause, there's no point talking sense into him.
Years had passed, and he still wouldn't let it go.
He had explained himself again and again. That he didn't mean those words. That he didn't think he was weak.
Yet he wouldn't listen. And now he had grown into a monster.
"This ends now, Mickey."
He quickly fired six shots, precisely hitting the hands of the people holding guns!
He moved too fast for them to react and fire back, and they all have collapsed in pain in a span of a second.
Wolfe's eyes widened. This level of precision, this speed, this skill....
Wasn't it really far too perfect to be human?
"I'm have successfully incapacitated all your goons now, as you have heard. I'll be calling the police and have them take this place down, along with you and your family, no matter where you are hiding."
"Your little games are now over."
Mickey Xing went quiet again. Then, he said:
"I'll drag you with me then. And that little Fang beside you. You bring down the Xing... And I'll bring down your families to hell with us."
"Then you would have to have your wedding in a jail cell, hahaha!"
Both Leon and Wolfe's blood went cold from this, their minds going numb for a second.
