Davi called the meeting off after that. Telling Lucas only that they'd be in touch regarding their decision.
That threw him off again. He expected to leave with a firm answer. But Davi wasn't going to give him one. Ivo understood what he was trying to do. Lucas was dangling something really juicy in front of them, but they couldn't risk him thinking that afforded him some type of authority.
He didn't call the shots.
People like him were dangerous, and they would be stupid to show their hand.
Lucas offered to get their tab, but Vice got up from his seat with limber grace and an easy smile, and walked him up to the door. "No need, I'm a regular here. I have it covered. Go back to your kid. Like my associate said: we'll be in touch."
Lucas threw them all one last, disdainful look before disappearing out of the club's open doorway and into the neon night.
"Well, that was something," Vice said with a whistle. "Rodrigo Lopes, that's one big fish."
