Chapitre 31: A call to her

"Ring, ring, ring."

Seo-yeon neutrally looked down at her phone as she stepped out of the bathroom in her dressing room. Picking up the phone, she looked at the caller ID and shrugged before picking it up.

"Hello." She raised a brow and a female voice spoke from the other end.

"Good afternoon. Please am I speaking with Miss Seo-yeon?" The lady asked politely with a slight panic that was obvious in her voice. Yet again, the voice sounded a bit familiar to Seo-yeon's ears but she couldn't quite say where she heard it from.

"Yes. How may I help you please?" Seo-yeon proceeded to ask, picking the dress she would be wearing from her bag.

"I am your mother's maid, Yoon-suh." The lady gave a sigh of relief and Seo-yeon hummed.

"Oh, it's you Yoon-suh." Seo-yeon replied sarcastically as she placed the phone on speaker, dropping it on the table so she could wear her clothes with ease.

"Why did you call? Do you need any help or something?"

"Young mistress, your help is really needed. Madam has been ill for months now and she's not getting any better. We've tried all the possible best we can but couldn't reach any remedy. Madam has been asking for you for the past three weeks now and now she's even calling you out from her sleep. Please young mistress, a visit is all I beg from you." The lady on the other side of the phone bursted into tears.

"I see." Seo-yeon replied gently despite sensing how serious the situation was based on the maids' panic. She didn't seem to be affected by any of the words. She had broken bonds with all of them in the family. They did at first though.

"Please young mistress. I know this won't be comfortable for you. Madam and Boss got into an argument two years ago and they both demanded space. We've been trying to reach him but he refused to send any help for Madam. We've spent almost everything she has on surgery and medications and none seems to yield any results." Yoon-suh added while holding back more threatening tears.

Meanwhile, Seo-yeon wasn't actually really surprised about the separate part. She was born in a weird family that she herself doesn't know how to explain. They keep a good profile outside but within their walls, things one could never expect was going on.

"I will think about it. I am no longer her daughter then why does she even need me? She disowned me along with her husband seven years ago so I don't even see why I should think about it." Seo-yeon rolled her eyes as she looked at the mirror before her, arranging her hair.

"Please young mistress. I beg of you." Yoon-suh pleaded genuinely. "Please, you're our only hope right now."

"Only hope?" Seo-yeon scoffed. "Only hope indeed. I would think about it. I have to go. I have things to do."

"Your mum is sick?" Mari exclaimed in sheer horror, to the point the clothes she was actually holding in her arms fell to the ground. "What the hell happened these few years?"

"Who cares what happened? After all they did years back…."

"You pretty much know you're the one who made them disown you, didn't you…."

"Cut it out Ma-ri. I think Do-yun actually did me one favor I would be grateful for for the rest of my life, finally getting to know my own family was my enemy. They only did what they did for me because they wanted to gain more popularity and money through me. Is that how to treat your own daughter?"

"Still they took care of you Seo-yeon. You have to appreciate that. You know lots of times that your mum says your father wanted her to abort you…."

"I think that would have been better Ma-ri. That would have been better than having me in a world where even the world itself is against me." Seo-yeon yelled at Ma-ri who folded her arms across her chest with a frown.

"What an ungrateful being you are, Seo-yeon. At least they had you. Despite all you had your own sweet son you know will be someone you won't regret suffering for in the future. I'm not telling you to forgive them, I'm just telling you to show this one gratitude for them taking care of you for twenty years or whatever was the year they took care of you for. Think about it Seo-yeon and call yourself back home. Seriously." Ma-ri snorted as she walked out of the laundry room.

Seo-yeon stood there with a clenched fist as she was beyond furious.

"Momma?"

"Go and play Ji-hoon. I'm not in the mood." Seo-yeon walked past her son who held up a piece of paper for her to look at.

"Won't you look at what I got for you first?" He called after her.

"I said leave me alone." Seo-yeon yelled at him and he took a step back with the look on his face changing to a hurt expression.

Seeing her son was about to cry, a sigh escaped Seo-yeon's lips as she took a deep breath to calm herself.

"I'm sorry sweetheart. Momma is just in a bad mood." Seo-yeon lifted him in her arms and he wrapped his arms around her neck sobbing quietly. "I won't do that again. Don't be mad at momma sweetheart."

As she finished the sentence, Ma-ri took Ji-hoon away from her and she walked up the stairs. "Deal with your anger yourself and stop passing aggressions to those near you. And so you know, if you don't consider visiting her, I would do that and I would do it with Ji-hoon."

"Are you threatening me now?" Seo-yeon frowned and Ma-ri scoffed.

"Take it as whatever you think it is. I've told you the facts already." Ma-ri walked towards the rooftop with Ji-hoon who was still sobbing in her arms.
