Chapitre 70: Nightlife In Tokyo

As I was getting ready to experience the Tokyo nightlife, I got a message from Masato.

"Oh, my quarterly dividends are ready. Uhh..." I numbly said as I looked at the number on the screen before rubbing my eyes to make sure I wasn't hallucinating and wiping my phone screen to make sure it wasn't a smudge.

"No, no. That's right, apparently. I need a drink of water." I said before walking to the kitchen and drinking some water.

"Holy shit. 3.234B USD. Before taxes obviously, but holy shit. Taxes in the US are 8.2% so that means 2.968B after taxes. Jesus. I could waste a million dollars a day and still not run out for years. I know I shouldn't be surprised considering the stuff I've experienced and will experience, but still. I need to call Masato real quick." I said before calling him.

"How may I help you, Garetty-sama?"

"Masato, about the money. I'm assuming you've yet to deposit it into an account?"

"That is correct, Garetty-sama. I was going to call and ask if there was one specific bank to which you wished to have it transferred."

"How long would it take for an account with the top bank in America to be ready?"

"Not long, Garetty-sama. Even though we do not have much business overseas, we have some connections that would speed things along. Usually, it would take 6 months or so, but with our connections, we could have it ready in two days."

"Good. I need the money to be in America for my future endeavors, but leave half a billion in an account in the Shinomiya Bank. And have someone send over the documents, I'll be needing some money for a night on the town."

"Of course, Garetty-sama. Would you like for me to prepare a driver for you?"

"No, thanks Masato. I want to experience Tokyo for what it is."

"Of course, Garetty-sama. I will get someone on it right away. It should be there within the hour."

"Great, thank you, Masato. Take care." I said before hanging up.

"Money makes the world go round, but connections grease the wheels. From 6 months to 2 days. Good, I'd hate to wait so long just for a bank account, if it came to that I might've bought something from the DGC to speed things along. Now I just need to wait for whoever's dropping the things I asked for off, and off I go."

~~

I was currently riding the train after the documents had been dropped off along with a shiny new credit card because debit cards were rarely used in Japan. Masato also had enough foresight to exchange 1M USD or 144M Yen into cash, since Japan is a mostly cash society still. Which I find odd considering Japan has always been hailed as the technological capital of the world, but that's beside the point.

I had decided to first go to one of the must-visit places, according to the internet, Shibuya. I had heard in my past life that Shibuya is a good place to visit both during the day and the night time because of its bustling atmosphere and variety of businesses.

"Shibuya Station, Shibuya Station." said the announcer signaling it was my stop.

Getting off the train and going up the stairs, I could see that the station was still jam-packed with people even though it was already 9 PM. New York is still busy at this time too, but Tokyo seems a little busier.

Not having any specific plans for the night, except maybe bar-hopping, I decided to just walk around the area and see if I could find anything interesting.

After walking around for a few minutes, dodging drunk guys, some pickpockets, and rejecting a few women who wanted to hang out, I saw two figures in the ugliest car I'd ever seen entering a car park. The thing that caught my eye, besides the car, was that I recognized the two, Sean Boswell and Twinkie from Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, debatably one of the greatest car movies ever.

And them entering a car park, looking as young as they do, means that the story of the movie is right at the beginning before they meet DK or Han.

'I was looking for a good time and what's a better time than watching some drifting and meeting Han.'

Entering the car park and walking up the stairs to where the car meet was, I was met with the iconic scene in every FF movie. The cars, the music, and the girls.

I began to walk around and take a look at all the JDMs that were there, cars that car lovers in the time I died would kill for. Unfortunately, I couldn't admire the cars in peace because a gaijin walking around was bound to attract attention.

"Hey, another gaijin, name's Twinkie." he said as he appeared behind me with Sean trailing behind while I was admiring a car.

"Matt, nice to meet you. Who's your lovestruck friend?" I asked, seeing that Sean was looking at Neela.

"That's Sean, and that girl he's staring at is DK's girl, which means he should stop staring at her unless he wants trouble." he said, saying that last part while looking at Sean.

"DK? What's that?" asked Sean.

"Drift King. In Japan, the only way to race is to drift, and he's the Drift King. Not to mention, he's Yakuza, so you better stop eyeing his girl." said Twinkie.

"Isn't she a schoolgirl?" I asked.

"Yeah. But it's legal as long as they don't do it. There's a weird grey area in Japan where a 20-year-old can date a 16-year-old as long as they don't do it." said Twinkie.

"You seem to know a lot about these laws." said Sean, giving a weird look to Twinkie.

"Come on, man. It's not like that. I was confused the first time I saw those two, so I did some research." he explained.

"Sure. I'll be right back." said Sean before walking off to talk to Neela.

"Damn, this dumbass really wants trouble." said Twinkie.

"Leave him be. Being reckless and young go hand in hand." I said to him, while going back to looking at the car.

"Aren't you our age?" he asked, confused.

"18, 1 year older, but I'm wise beyond my years." I replied with a smile.

"Uh-huh. Anyways, what brings you to this car meet?"

"Looking for something fun to do. I heard Shibuya has a vibrant nightlife so I came here. Then when I was walking around looking for stuff to do, I saw a bunch of nice cars making their way here, so I followed them."

"Sure, sure. So, why are you in Japan? Spending Daddy's money?" he joked.

"Haha, something like that. I'm here on business. Just got done wrapping up with it, so I decided to experience Tokyo before I fly back to New York. Also, your friend looks like he's about to be in trouble." I said, making Twinkie look over to see that DK was making his way towards Sean and Neela.

"Shit." he said before rushing over, while I followed, but not as fast.

"He was just leaving." said Twinkie right as DK and his group of goons reached them, and put his hands around Neela. Han was trailing behind him and sat on the hood of a car, watching the whole thing.

"She's mine, understand?" he said in Japanese.

"I'm sorry I don't understand Japanese." replied Sean, before DK kissed her on the cheek.

"Understand that? Gaijin."

"That word you called me, gaijin or something or other. What does that mean exactly?"

"It means turn around."

"Come on, man." said Twinkie pulling Sean away. Meanwhile, I went up next to Han and leaned against the same car.

"Matt, nice to meet you." I said to him.

"Han. Why are you next to me?"

"No reason, I saw what car you were next to earlier, and I'm assuming it's yours. What do you do?"

"Race."

"You like it? Always wanted to be a pro racer."

"Enough."

"Nice, what's your favorite part?"

"The race."

DONG

"That's cool." I said, stopping the conversation now that I had what I wanted, and paying attention to Sean and DK again.

"Sorry, DK-san, won't happen again. Monkey didn't have his banana." I heard Twinkie say.

"Come on, DK, let's go. It's time to race." said Han next to me, getting up from the car and starting to walk off.

"You guys racing? I'm in." I said, causing everyone to turn their eyes to me.

"Who are you?" asked DK.

"Matt, but that's not important. I want to race, you want to race. How about it?" I asked with a smile.

"What are you going to use to race, a skateboard?" asked DK.

"He can borrow mine." said Han, tossing his keys to me, which I promptly caught.

"Problem solved. So, the race?" I asked dangling the keys.

"Fine. Let's race." he said turning around to walk to his car.

"Wait, let's make it more interesting." I said, stopping him in his tracks.

"How?"

"I win, I get your car. You win, you get 5K USD."

"And if you can't pay?"

"You cut my pinky off, isn't that what you Yakuza do?" I said with a smile.

"Deal." he said before continuing to walk off.

AN

I had to read a bunch of different articles about how shareholders are paid out and had to do different calculations to do this, so here we go. Most companies do quarterly dividends to shareholders so the Zaibatsu does as well. The yearly revenue for Apple in 2012 was 130B give or take, but their worth was 600B. The Zaibatsu is worth 1.38T give or take, but it's been stable for far longer so its average revenue is less but more consistent than Apple's which is a growing company. So I decided to make their revenue up til the third quarter 80B, with the third quarter being 30B. Apple's net profit margin in 2012 was about 25% give or take, so I made the Zaibatsu's 22% since even though the business has been around for much longer, the diversity in their infrastructure means more potential problems.

So with all that said, 22% of 30B is 6.6B and 49% of 6.6B is 3.234B, which is how much the MC received in dividends. You might be thinking this is a lot, and I agree it is a lot for one person, but in reality, this rarely happens because even majority shareholders don't have 49% usually, or they reinvest in their other businesses. Seeing as the MC has no other businesses, for now, he'll have all the money for himself, for now, but will use it later on for his other business endeavors. If anyone actually knows about investments and business more than just a couple of quick reads and points out a flaw in the money, let me know and I might change it.

Also for the Fast and the Furious thing, it'll stop after 6 or 7, since that's the last one where it's semi-realistic because after that it just falls off so hard. Not that it'll ever get there, just if it does that's the last one.
