Chapitre 7: CHAPTER SEVEN

She looked at him. It was obvious that he was worried about her

"Beth, you shouldn't be here please, go home"

"I am not going back there without you. I told them that I was coming after you and I am. If I'm going back home, you are coming with me. You should not be out here. After today, I don't think it's going to be peaceful for us anymore"

"You don't understand. If that thing happens again, I don't think I would be able to forgive myself. I don't think I can hurt you again"

"I told you I would heal up. What the hell is the big issue there? I'm fine. It's not like I can die that way or something. We both know that I can't so stop worrying about me, I can take care of myself. I am not a child. I'm not the girl that arrived at your place six months ago. I am not that scared, broken wolf anymore. I am more than that. I am…."

The rest of the words trailed off as he kissed her on the lips. She wasn't expecting that. He pulled away and she moved back

"That is why you can't be around me. I love you. I'm not talking about loving you as a little sister. I am in love with you. I have been from the very first day I saw you. I don't know what to do with these feelings. Watching you grow and heal has been one journey for me. I can't get you out of my head, I can't get you off my mind. Beth, I know we are immediate cousins but it's the twenty-first century for Pete's sakes. I can't keep lying to you and lying to myself. I love you and that is all that matters to me"

"Are you crazy? Did I hit your head too hard when we fought? You can't love me, Carl, it is impossible. I am not the one for you. You have a girlfriend for fucks sake. She would tear me into bits if she finds out that you feel this way about me"

"If she touches you, I would kill her"

"No, you wouldn't. You are not in love with me. Trust me. This can't work"

"Why on earth are you so quick to dismiss my feelings? Why are you so quick to say it can't work? Why are you so fast to make that decision? You can't possibly be serious. If you're doing this because of Yale, he probably forgot about you. He doesn't know you exist anymore. He thinks you're dead and long gone and he has probably moved on with his life so no! He's not coming back to you and he's not yours"

Beth looked at him. That was the first time he spoke to her this way. He was always gentle with her. Brie had done something similar to him earlier in the day. She stood up and winced in pain

"Beth, wait, I'm sorry"

She sped off, leaving her sweatshirt behind. He regretted what he just said. If he wanted her, hurting her wasn't the way to get her. She sped off with tears in her eyes. She knew she should not be using her powers out in public but she didn't care. She found a silent spot on top of a skyscraper and sat there. Tears flowed freely from her eyes. She missed him so bad. She wasn't ready to admit it. She still stalked him on social media. After the massacre, he had gone off the grid for a while but came back four months after. He had gotten a new girlfriend and maybe a new best friend. It hurt her like hell when she found out. She sat there, going over memories. She remembered the first time he stood up for her against her brother. They were on a school bus when she sat beside him because her best friend was trying to make them get to talk to each other. Her brother Henry was his best friend and he normally sat with Yale on the school bus when they rode to school and rode back but this particular day, he was late and Diane had walked up to him. She remembered everything as it happened hours ago

"He has a free seat" Diane stated

"Yes, I can see it and I'm guessing it's taken" She had replied to her best friend

"You wouldn't know till you ask. Besides, if it's not taken by your brother, it would be taken by one of those cheerleading cockroaches. Which do you prefer? I can always keep your brother company. He likes to talk about cats and I do too. We would get lost in the conversation in minutes. So ask him"

Diane said, already turning toward his direction

"No way!" Beth said, trying to stop her

"If you don't, I would" Diane had threatened

Diane said walking up to Yale. Bethany let out a soft grunt. Why did she have to be like this every time? Why could she not mind her own business? Diane walked up to Yale

"Hey there," Diane said

"Hey, D, what's going on?"

"My friend Bethany was wondering if this seat is free"

"Uhm, yeah it is"

She turned to Bethany

"See, the seat is free. I told you, all you needed to do is ask"

"Did you bully him into giving you the seat?"

Bethany argued with her best friend, forgetting that she was right in front of Yale

"No" he smiled. "She didn't bully me into giving up the seat. It was reserved for Henry but he's not here yet and the bus is getting filled up"

"Oh, don't worry about Henry," Diane said. "I need his advice on something. I recently bought a Chihuahua and she's been really not herself. She hasn't been eating"

"Well, if you need any help on dogs, Henry is your guy. I know nothing about them" Yale had said, staring at Bethany

"See, so Henry would sit with me," Diane said

She remembered everything. She had sat with Yale and her brother came and was it so cool with the idea. He walked up to her and was very rude to her in front of the one person she cared intimately about.

"Hey, scram!" Henry said to her as he got to where she was seating

"Would you stop talking to your sister that way?" Yale said, defending her

"You are really a dick you know?" Henry said back at Yale and Bethany said as her eyes glowed

"Hey! Stop it. The both of you. You both know better than to transform in public. There are humans around and Henry, I need your help with my dog so why don't you sit with me instead?" Diane had interfered, trying to calm everybody down

"There is absolutely no need for that! I was leaving already" Bethany said as she stood up

"No!" Yale said as he held her back. "Henry can sit somewhere else. You asked for this spot first"

"He's right. I'm sorry. I would sit with Diane. Have fun bitch"

Henry said. That was it. She stood up and growled. Yale held her hand. She looked at him through her outlined silver eyes. She immediately felt a sense of peace overwhelm her. She couldn't deny the fact that she missed him. All these memories came rushing back. She was lost without them. She just wanted a hug from him. She wanted to go back and tell him that she wasn't ready yet. She wanted to tell him everything that happened to her. She knew somewhere in his heart that he still longed for the same way she longed for him. She just needed to talk to him to find out. They shared more than just memories. She remembered the first time he kissed her. That day, she got into an argument with her best friend at lunch

"So, did you tell Harry yet?" Her best friend asked, talking about a teacher from the school

"Yeah, I did. Yesterday after school. He called me and we talked about it. He told Henry too"

"How did he take it? I mean Henry?"

"He was mad. He was upset about the fact that I told Harry who was far away instead of telling him, who stayed in the same house with me. I just hope he doesn't do anything stupid because if he does, he would get expelled from the school, not only because he's not one of them but because he's from the Southside pack"

"I don't think Harry would tell him just so he can get himself expelled. Maybe it's just to keep an eye on you considering the fact that he's sitting there" she said, turning to him. "And he has had his eyes on you ever since we came here"

"If you're uncomfortable, we can get another table"

"No, I'm not. It's totally fine. It's nice to see him look out for his sister the way he ought to. I guess talking to him did work after all"

"What exactly did you say to him, Diane?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary. I just told him what he needed to hear. What somebody ought to have told him for a long time now"

"Whatever it is, it did work the magic because he came to me last night and he wanted to talk"

"And did you let him?"

"He didn't get there. He saw the scar on my neck and that was the end of the conversation because Harry called him. After he ended the call with Harry, he asked about the sore neck and I told him not to worry about it"

"Why would you do that?"

"I don't understand that question. Why wouldn't I do that? I don't think you understand what is going on. Henry is not the type to care and we both know how quick he is to react"

"What do you want? First, you want him to care, and then you don't?"

"You know that isn't what I mean"

"Then what do you mean? I don't understand you anymore"

"What do you mean by you don't understand me anymore? It's not about me! It is about him and the relationship between us. There is no relationship between us and you trying to force one makes no sense!"

"If I didn't know you better, I would call you an ungrateful bitch right now. You are bipolar as fuck. Know what you want. The relationship between you and your brother is ruined because of him. Yes, we agree but you are up here acting like you don't even want to fix the bridge between the both of you. I can't give you to do this any longer. Harry isn't here. Nobody is going to protect you if Henry doesn't and don't give me the crap of you can take care of yourself because you can't. If you could take care of yourself, this matter wouldn't have escalated to this extent so no, you can not handle it yourself"

"Yeah, sure. Thanks for rubbing that in"

She said as she got up from the table. She had been so hurt that she ran to the school field to cry her eyes out when she met him there. He might have been there for the same reasons or different reasons but she met him there and that had been the beginning of their love story. She couldn't explain why she was drawn and attached to him that way but at that moment, she didn't want any of it to end. She always wanted to be in his presence and she was until things changed. She had a perfect life until Cyrus ruined it all and he was going to pay for it. She swore on the grave of her family that she wasn't going to let him get away with it, not ever.
