100% Carrying The CEO’s Baby / Chapter 13: Rage

Chapitre 13: Rage

Kathlyn was staring at the ceiling when Jasmine barged into the house. Her make-up had smudged all over her face and her hair was a mess. Her eyes travelled from the ceiling to Jasmine and the sobs which had died down surfaced again.

"Oh, Kathie" Jasmine exclaimed. She walked towards her and wrapped her in her arms, cooing her and encouraging her to cry and let out all the hurt she felt.

"I feel so horrible, Jas."

"Oh, dear! You shouldn't. You did nothing wrong. Adam is the asshole for doing something like this to you."

"I seemed desperate. The things I said to him at the club might have made him think that I desperately want him. Perhaps that is why he is doing this to me" She said sadly.

"No. You were drunk, darling. Now, you will stop crying over some irresponsible big baby and go into the bathroom to freshen up. I will whip something for you to eat before you come back down" Jasmine offered.

"I am not hungry" Kathlyn whined. She wriggled herself free from Jasmine's hands and walked over to the other chair. She curled herself up into a ball and continued staring at the ceiling.

"No, you won't be this person. You will stand up, go freshen up and eat something. You will not turn into a miserable person because of a man who neither respects women nor knows your value" Jas said rising from her seat and walking over to Kathlyn. She shot her a pitiful look before pulling her up.

"But…"

"No ifs or buts" Jasmine said cutting her short. "Stand up."Kathlyn pouted her lips and shook her head stubbornly. Jas crossed her hands over her chest and glared at Kathie. Her glare forced Kathie to roll her eyes and push herself up from the seat.

She lazily dragged her feet up the stairs and into her room while Jasmine got to making something for her to eat. Kathie got out of her clothes, leaving them lying on the floor and made her way to the bathroom. She sat on the floor, pulled her legs to her chest and stared into space. She felt used and devalued and she blamed herself deeply for it. She could not find it in her to put the entire blame on Adam. It was not his fault after all that she spewed trash to him at the club that night.

She did not deserve what he put her through though. Why send her a text, raise her hopes up and brutally dash them? Was she at fault for believing that he could actually be sorry for his attitude and really wanted to apologize? Maybe if she had not believed the text, she would not be in this situation.

"No" She said wiping her tears away aggressively and standing up from the bathroom floor. "No. I have to stop crying over someone as despicable as Adam. He doesn't deserve it" She said. She turned the faucet on and let the water beat her back.

"He should feel pathetic for what he did to me today. He should be the one crying not me." She turned the faucet off and tied a towel around her body before walking out of the bathroom. She got into her room and stared at her reflection in the mirror. She stared at herself for a while before gritting her teeth in annoyance. "Adam Smith, you will pay for embarrassing me" She swore.

Kathlyn dreaded Mondays. Was there anyone who did not? She detested that she would have to go to the office and force a smile towards random people. Was that even supposed to be in her job description? She was not sure. She hated this particular Monday more. She would have to face Adam Smith and she had no idea how she would do that without feeling the urge to snap his neck.

He did not call the entire weekend. Not even a beep. What sort of unrepentant moron did that to a lady? She straightened her peach colored gown and stood up straighter. She squared her shoulders, jutted her jaw out and felt an ounce of confidence course through her veins. Taking one last look in the mirror, she walked over to her handbag, grabbed it and walked out of the house.

"Good morning, Jess" She greeted walking into the office. Jessica looked up at her and offered her a cherry smile. She returned the greeting. Kathlyn made her way into her office before letting out the breath she had been holding. Muttering a small word of thanks, she settled on her office chair and prepared her mind for the day ahead.

The double glass doors of the office besides hers glided open. She pretended not to be aware that Adam just walked in. Instead, she typed rapidly on the keyboard, pretending to be responding to emails. Her office was separated from Adam's by a thin, glass door which came as a surprise to her because it was not there on Friday. There was a tiny wooden door there instead.Jess informed her that Adam got it changed during the weekend.

Adam wrapped his jacket around the arm of his chair and settled on his chair. Kathlyn watched him disdainfully, hating how handsome he looked. Her chest ached that he did not as much as cast a glance her way. He opened his laptop and pinched his forehead before staring blankly at the laptop screen. He looked deep in thoughts.

At this point, Kathlyn was curious. Her anger was slowly dissipating and being replaced by curiosity. She forced herself to focus on her work but she could neither stop her thoughts from straying to him nor her eyes. Frustrated, she rose up from her seat, grabbed a file on her table and her phone and made her way over to his office, pretending to have something for him. She pushed the glass door open and walked in.
