Chapitre 78: Chapter 78 - Half Of A Silver Heart

Declan broke away from the hug first, he lifted his head to wipe Faun's tears, cupping his face afterward to search for something and he seemed to find what he was looking for because he pressed their foreheads together.

"You should have left my dumbass for deciding to play martyr," He murmured, burying his hands in his hair.

Faun laughed, a wet sound, "Don't give me ideas," He replied, his gaze catching onto the glittery necklace hanging on Declan's wrist. "That's my…" He mumbled trailing off.

Faun had taken off the necklace right after Declan had collared him and had tossed it somewhere so he wouldn't have to see it again because it stung too much to have both the collar and the necklace on his neck.

"If you don't want it, I'll…" Declan started to say in a hurry.

Faun just stepped backward so he could spin around, "Help me put it on," He cut him off, lifting his hair out of the way. "Do you have any idea how difficult it was to match outfits with the other one?"

A smile lifted on half of Declan's lips, relieved and grateful that Faun could find humor in their pain. It felt like the half of him that had been ripped off had returned, "We should go inside, my legs hurt."

Faun whipped around to shoot him a look at that, "How long were you standing there?"

"Somewhere between four to five hours?" Declan admitted with a wince, he would have arrived earlier but his father had delayed him with mandatory King business.

Faun shot him a look of disapproval, "It couldn't have hurt you to sit on the porch or something?" He scolded, leading the way inside the cottage.

"I didn't want to miss you," Declan grumbled, peeved that his act of martyrdom was being ignored.

"It wouldn't have been hard to…" Faun started to say and then fell silent, a soft smile on his face as he shook his head. "Thank you for waiting."

Declan enveloped him in a backhug, leaning all of his weight on Faun as they trudged indoors.

"So it was you who left all the doors open?" Faun noted, all of the scolding tones in his voice long gone.

"I didn't want you to be locked out of your home," Declan mumbled, sounding sleepy.

Faun couldn't even reply with a witty rebuttal, smiling so wide his cheeks started to hurt. Their problems still weren't solved but…

"Oh right, I removed the law on hybrids," Declan interrupted his thoughts like he could hear them clear as day.

Faun stopped in his tracks which meant the both of them stopped because he was practically half-carrying Declan, "What?"

"And I might be King but that's not important," He tagged on.

"WHAT?!"

"Faun, I'm hungry," Declan moved on like he hadn't just dropped heavy info on Faun. It was so easy to say, it made him wonder why he waited all this time. He had gotten so caught up in his own head and withheld information because he didn't want to lose Faun and all that did was make him nearly lose Faun.

"That's not a fair thing to say now," Faun replied, his voice quiet.

He continued their journey to Declan's room which was the only inhabitable space for the meantime. The bed had to be laid but that was about it, his own room was completely bare.

Declan couldn't just say something like that and expect Faun to get over it in a few seconds, "Wait here," He ordered, dropping Declan off on a chair so he could get to laying the bed.

Declan immediately sprung up the moment Faun left his immediate vicinity, his drowsy eyes flicking open, "Where are you going?" He asked suspiciously narrowing his eyes.

"To lay the bed unless you want the dusty floor," Faun sassed but he stopped in his tracks the moment Declan asked that question, "And since you're awake, why don't you order pizza or something." He tagged on before continuing to the closet.

The cottage was actually impeccably clean, not a speck of dust like there had been someone cleaning the space daily, Faun wouldn't be surprised if there was.

He only opened the doors before Declan caught up to him and clung to him again, Faun didn't even flinch at this, wrapping his tail around Declan's thigh as he picked out a change of sheets.

Although they were attached to each other physically, Faun managed to lay the bed while Declan did his part and ordered pizza. When the bed was perfectly laid, Declan immediately made a move to flop on it, only to get stopped by Faun.

"Not so fast, go take a shower," He shooed him, "Don't ruin the fresh sheets."

"Take one with me," Declan was aware that he was being a grouch but he was genuinely panicky about being separated from Faun for any amount of time.

"Someone has to be out here when the pizza arrives," Faun made up an excuse, his face flaming.

A slow smile grew on Declan's face, and he stole a kiss before leaving. It was slow and soft and held all the words he was yet to say, and it made Faun's face burn.

Faun didn't say any snarky response after that, palms against his cheeks to cool them down. He really wanted to shower with Declan but he could see in the other's eyes that he needed a meal and plenty of sleep, that was what was most important.

So by the time Declan returned freshly showered, wearing a colorful shirt and grey sweats, pizza was already laid out on a blanket on the ground. Faun was seated crosslegged on it, absently tugging on his necklace as he stared into the distance.

Declan paused at the doorway to study him, there was nothing to cause him worry in those beautiful green eyes and just as he was about to take a step forward, Faun turned to him with a blinding smile. Declan about sagged against the doorway at that, he would go against an entire country over and over again just to keep seeing that smile.

"How long are you going to keep standing there?" Faun asked but this time, there was a smile in his question. "The pizza is getting cold."

Declan strode over, noting that his mate had a difficult time keeping his captivating green eyes off him. "You should have started eating without me."

Faun didn't even grace him with a response patting the empty space beside him. "I'll cook for you later." He said quietly, a blissful smile on his face as he handed Declan a plate of pizza.

Declan's expression soured briefly at that, he had something else he had to say but he didn't want to ruin the moment and Faun was actually right. He was dead on his feet, it was a miracle he had dropped unconscious yet seeing as he was functioning on barely a couple hours of sleep in seventy-two hours.

"Bake for me too," He added, a grumble in his voice as he took a bite out of the pizza.

Faun watched him eat with a proud smile, wishing he had been the one to cook but there was no time for that right now. They would have all the time they needed soon though, "Sure," He agreed.
