("W-We've done it! The procedure was a success!")

{Please note that ("Example") means Rachel can't understand it}

I don't care if you're a guy or a girl, just shut up. My poor ears, it's so loud... huh. I looked around for clues as to what had happened. The last thing I recall is... dying?

Yes, I believe I died. He didn't tell me his name, but he killed me with some kind of drug I believe. The guy hasn't told me his name though, he also pierced my neck with something. It was most likely a drug-filled needle.

It didn't hurt though, it was as if he was attempting to kill me in such a way that I would feel no pain, or as little pain as possible. If that's the case, then why would he kill me in the first place? No way, if I'm dead, how am I still alive?

No way actually died. He most likely drugged me and I was saved; I'm most likely in a hospital bed right now. Yes, I'll deal with him later.

When I opened my eyes, I saw mostly white. But I couldn't see very far, and everything was blurry. My vision was extremely blurry in fact, and my eyes were extremely sensitive. The bright lights all around me made it even more difficult to see anything.

As a result, I was forced to blink several times. I did, however, hear someone who sounded male. The voice was husky and generally unpleasant to hear, and I didn't understand the language in the least.

("Was it a success?")

("Y-yes, it was," someone else said.

Fortunately, I was able to make out the mysterious men. Things were still hazy, but I could manage. Both of them were males and were looking down at me.

One of the men was dressed in a black uniform, had dark blue hair, and brown eyes that were so dark they appeared black. He was muscly and had a scar across his cheek.

Someone who looked very similar to him stood next to him. Except this guy's uniform was white, his hair was brown and curly, and his eyes were a bright green color.

("So, Nate, how did it go?") The man in the black uniform spoke up.

I didn't like it, so I tried to move my body but failed miserably. I also didn't liked the fact that I had never heard of this language before; granted, learning languages was not something I did.

I knew a few words in Spanish and Japanese, as well as some French. Aside from those, English is the only language I am fluent in. But whatever they were saying didn't sound at all familiar to me.

With pity, the guy in the white uniform gulped and looked down at me. I'm not all bad! Don't look at me like that; it bothers me. I despised it when people looked at me in that way, as it made me feel ashamed for some reason.

Perhaps it was just my pride, no, wait, it is most definitely my pride.

("We were forced to extract the child from the womb after the mother died during the birth. The procedure was one of the most time-consuming we'd ever undertaken. They might have followed their mother if it hadn't been for one of the doctor's ability.")

("Oh, that's unfortunate.") The man muttered in a tone that did not correspond to his expression. He was looking at me as if he wanted something from me, as if I was supposed to do something impressive.

I had no idea what he wanted from me, someone who couldn't even move at the moment. I had an idea what was going on, but the logical side of brain refused to accept it.

Standing up straight, the man in the black uniform spoke again. ("How about the mother?")

("Her name was Silva Enid. A commoner woman from a nearby village in the southern regain.")

("Oh, isn't that the one who was involved in the incident with one of the Dukes?")

("Yes, sir. She came in the hopes of selling the girl off; she didn't want anything to do with her.")

I'm getting irritated now. They're obviously talking about me. I couldn't turn my head or do anything but stare up at them. It was pointless to look around because everything was white, white walls, white ceiling, white floating lights... wait.

I took a closer look, and lo and behold, I was correct. There were floating lights near the ceiling's peak, hovering in place. I'll definitely look into those things later, but first I need to figure out my situation.

I've concluded that I was most likely reborn in some way. I'm not sure why, but I suppose reincarnation is what happens after death, and some people remember their previous lives.

I'm not sure; I'm just going on the basis of the many novels I've read. I could be completely wrong for all I know. I'm just going to go with that until something comes up to prove me wrong.

I'm not sure what kind of world I'm in, but judging by the floating lights, it's probably a magical one. I hope it's not just a technologically advanced location. That would be boring.

Oh, they're talking again. I need to pay attention so that I can learn this new language as soon as possible. Learning as much as I can in my early years will be extremely beneficial to me in the future.

("What do you think of the girl, Sir Val?") Nate inquired.

The man named Val hummed, not returning Nate's gaze. ("It's too early to tell, but I'm confident that this one has the potential to process a bloodline. Her mother was disabled from birth, and she was not born with any abilities. We'll have to wait and see because her father is the polar opposite. When does the comet that is supposed to pass tonight take place?")

Nate stiffened and frowned slightly. ("Sir, in an hour. Will you going to catch a glimpse at it? It doesn't last lost, after all.")

("Of course, it's said that this comet is meant to contain so much pure energy that it would be devastating if it were to hit our planet.")

Sweat began to accumulate on Nate's brow. He was well aware of what would occur if the comet somehow collided; it was one of his responsibilities to research the matter. The Comet of Valentine is what they called it, the comet was named after its purple and pink trail and the family who discovered it.

Me? I had no choice but to lie motionless. I was listening to the two men, trying to remember some of the words for later. I also needed to learn numbers, but I'm not sure if they're written differently, so I'll have to wait and see.

("Nate, have someone bring her to one of the rooms.") Val said as he walked away.

Nate nodded and walked away, leaving me alone in the room. I wondered if I had a name, which I doubted. My mother clearly didn't want me; she either left me here or died while giving birth. My situation was definitely a unique one.

For all I know, I was kidnapped by some group. I don't think I'm from any important family or anything like that, I also feel human. So it couldn't have been because of my race; perhaps some guys are just weirdos who kidnap people. No, that does not make sense.

I'm sure they have a reason; all I need to do now is figure out what it is. It shouldn't be too difficult, right? Knowing my luck, it most likely will be.

("Should we give this one a name? It would be more convenient than simply referring to her as a number.") Looking down at me, a woman said. She was attractive, with red hair and golden eyes, and she appeared to be quite tall.

She was the one who was supposed to look after me, but I could be mistaken. The lady next to her was much older. She didn't appear to be friendly.

I knew I wouldn't get along with her because she had one of those looks. It reminded me of my former boss. This lady had black hair, brown eyes, and a few gray strands in her hair.

The black-haired lady sneered. ("Marry, you do whatever you want. You are in charge of it. It will most likely die when a bloodline is fused into its body. Only forty-six percent of patients survive the "transfusion", you know this. No point in getting attached.) She then turned and walked away.

With a sigh, Marry looked at the woman away. Her gaze was drawn to me, and she waved a finger across my face in an attempt to catch my attention. I frowned as I stared at her finger.

Don't you know who I am? I'm a nobody, but I'm still here. Unless I die before then, I will rise to greatness and you will see. I'm sure I will. You know what, I take that back, I know myself well enough to know that I will most likely get myself into trouble and die. I'm prone to attracting trouble.

("What should I refer to you, little one?") She mumbled something. ("I should also give you your mother's surname. Lira Akuji Enid, perhaps? Isn't it a lovely name?")

I have no idea what she just said, but it sounded cool. This woman appears to be nice, but we'll see. She could be putting on a show. I'm not sure, and I'm pretty good at reading people. She lift me out of the crib, and finally let me take a good look around this new room.

It had the same white walls, ceiling, and lights as the other one. What got my attention was all of the other cribs inside the room. There were a few dozen of them, each with a baby sleeping inside. So it was either a daycare or an orphanage.

The room was in the shape of a semicircle with the curved part of the wall being glass. It looked kind a modern. But it didn't explain the cold feeling I was getting from almost everyone here. Marry walked over to the window with my hand her arms.

What I saw astonished me, was the fact that we were very high up. And I mean high. A forest covered in snow surrounded the building. I knew for a fact that this building was very large, but that wasn't the thing that stunned me.

It was the comet flying through the sky, leave a purple trail behind it. Purple lights fell from the trail falling to the ground. They were very tiny, but there were a lot of them.

I kinda want one, I really want one. It was a beautiful sight. My thoughts came to an end when I felt a rush on energy rush through my body. My eyes glowed purple then golden, before turning blue. Then, it was all gone, leaving me completely drained. Then I fell into darkness once more.

Beep within the forest, inside of a large cave, a man's eyes widened. He looked up with a small smile on his lips. "Finally, someone has appeared with the ability to use Aether. She is quite young as well, good. I'll wait a few years for her to mature. I can't make a contract with a newborn after all."
