Micah told Hazel about the firebird, the bird that was part of the Donovan's family, every descendent of Donovan that was born into this world, would have this spirit bird within them.

Micah's other gift that he showed her earlier, was a miracle itself, as he inherited it from his mother, though she lost her power long before he was even born.

Probably, the power did not really vanish, but it only got passed down to the next generation.
