Amber's eyes flickered when she heard Earl's voice. She slowly turned to the door in a daze. She wondered if she had correctly heard his voice.

"Amber…"

She sat up when she heard him calling her name. She had not mistakenly heard his voice. Earl had come to look for her. The tears that dried up again filled her eyes.

Earl, on the other hand, was sweating as he felt Gerald's piercing gaze on him. He mentally prayed for Amber to open the door. He lifted his hand to knock once more when the door opened. His hand froze in the air as he looked into her teary eyes. Before he could wonder what had made her so sad, he felt her arms around his waist.

She was sobbing, hiding her face on his chest.

Earl didn't dare flex his muscles. He wasn't sure if she was genuinely sad or playing a cruel joke on him. He trembled inwardly as he looked at the two people standing to his left and right.

They didn't look less shocked than he was.
