On seeing the unnecessary attention his wife had garnered to herself plus the embarrassment, Tan Enlai took it upon himself to drag her out from there.

Walking towards her, the corner of his lips moved up a bit, forming a smile, but his eyes remained cold.

The fake smile was just a formality because of their 

"Xiaoling, what are you doing?" His gentle voice asked as he walked over to her side, pretending to be unaware of the humiliation hovering over her.

Zhang Xiaoling turned her gaze to him, and seeing the anger in his eyes, she panicked within her, but quickly tried to savage the situation which turned out worse.

"Liling, you are thinking too much. My mother would never hurt you. Well, just come back to visit if you can. It's not good to disturb other people." 

While making her last statement, she glanced at Fang Bingwen, hinting at something obvious.
