Chapitre 21: She trembled
She could not lie that she was impressed and felt intimidated by the beauty of the lady that just left the room. Like a few men, she glanced at the door before moving her attention to the ladies talking beside her.
Lu Tian mopped the water on his hand and looked at his reflection in the mirror and signed. He took deep breaths to calm his racing heart.
That was so ineffective and he could not bring himself to return to the room and be in the same space with her. he has never believed in anything spiritual but the effect she had on him, made him believe she must have cast a spell on him.
Or perhaps he was simply overthinking. It must be guilt. The racing of his heart and the tightness in his chest when he saw his friend hold her so close to him you almost mistake them for sesame twins, must be due to the guilt he felt over what happened to her.
He has not apologized and perhaps it will all be over when he apologizes to her. with that on his mind, he stepped out into the hallway.
She was only three meters away from him in that beautiful dress that amplified the curves of her body. It was not purposefully provocative in his own opinion.
Rather it was elegant and simple but none of its simplicity could hide her beauty. Her beauty simply made the simple dress look very sexy. He was sure no one could look so good in the dress as her.
For the first time in his life, he felt interested in knowing the thoughts of women. He wanted to know why she chose to be a physiotherapist rather than a model or simply focus on her work as a social media influencer which was thriving well.
Her gaze moved upwards until they met his eyes. He reminded himself that his heart was racing because he owed her an apology and she felt guilty about what happened to her.
He has never felt this way towards all the women who got hurt in the past even the lady who died for trying to seduce him without covering it up well.
He must be guilty over what happened to her because two of his friends spoke to him about it and blamed him because they were close to her and one of them was dating her now and made her a member of their club.
He has always been a passive member of the club and kept his distance from most of the ladies except the twins but he felt a sense of concern and closeness to all of them more than anyone else meets outside.
The fact that she was an official member of the club makes it a necessity for him to apologize to her. he might have not been the person who hurt her but it happened because of him and she was only trying to help him.
He remembered how she helped him in his friend's office and she did not make any flirtatious moves which were different from the women who got hurt because they got close to him.
She was focused on his hand and said nice things to him just like she spoke to the many other people she has helped in the past.
He went through her review when he wanted to confirm if what she did was professional and without other thoughts and he was impressed by how people praised her for being nice.
She was innocent, at least that was what he told himself as he approached her. she smiled at him and bowed while moving away from him.
She walked past him when he subconsciously returned her smile. "Wait," he stopped her.
She stopped and turned to look at him. He saw her eyes weaver and she took a step backward when he approached her.
"Are you okay?" he asked when he saw the paleness of her skin that had looked so rosy through the night as she had her fiancé's hand on her waist.
She nodded and moved away when he got closer again to see her better with his brow furrowed. "I am okay," she told him seriously. Her voice sounded very fearless but it was difficult for him to hear the subtle shakiness in her voice.
She was the same person who had smiled and spoken to him out there.
She looked around with her lips slightly trembling. "I . . . I have to go, Mr. Lu Tian," she stammered as her hands wrapped around herself in a small embrace.
He narrowed his eyes and ran his fingers through his hair and exhaled. "I just wanted to talk to you," he told her as softly as he could making his voice sound scared to agitate her.
"I have to use the restroom," she told him sharply as she looked at the door of the ladies' room she was headed to.
"I want to apologize," he told her keeping his distance from her despite how weird it felt for him to talk to her from such a distance.
"It is okay, you did nothing wrong to me. Why would you want to apologize?" she pleaded as though hearing him apologize was as dangerous as a death sentence to her.
"I . . . I heard what happened to you and the threat you received," he reminded her immediately.
"I am fine now and it had nothing to do with you," she corrected him with her voice sounding even shakier. It sounded unsteady like she was about to cry, he also saw her eyes get misty.
"Why are you so scared?" he asked her subconsciously approaching her worry and wrinkling his brow.
"Arghh!" she screamed and fell to the floor as she tried to move away from him.
The door of the clubroom flew open and Ruoruo who was worried about her sister ran out of the room followed by her fiancée who Ruoruo had just asked about her sister's whereabout.
They did not expect to hear a distant scream the moment they got to the door.
"Lu Tian, stay away," Shen Yan warned his friend coldly as Ruoruo knelt beside her sister and hugged her while rubbing her back softly.
Lu Tian felt a strong urge to scream. He could not believe that getting close to her will warrant such a reaction from her. he had tried to stay away from her to respect her private space but he did not know what pulled him close to her and caused this chaos.
This had to be one of the worst days for him in the past decade.
