Chapitre 4: The babysitter

Amaira gritted her teeth as she angrily skipped through the channels on the flat-screen television in her living room. "I can't believe she grounded me."

She looked to her right, "And left you of all people to babysit me."

Michael, her boyfriend of three months and childhood friend laughed, "I'm not babysitting you, we're just hanging out like a normal couple."

"Whatever," Amaira told him and continued skipping through the channels.

"I don't get why you're so obsessed with that family," Michael dared to start. "They seem pretty normal and are actually very nice if you get to know them-"

Amaira slammed the remote on the glass center table as she cut him off, "So I'm the bad guy?"

"No-" Michael tried to appease her, but it was too late, he had already re-ignited the anger dwelling deep inside her heart...well, not so deep.

Amaira laughed but her voice held no humor as she ranted, "I'm the crazy, obsessed vampire fan who keeps picking on her neighbors and calling them names because I'm jealous of how beautiful the girls are...no, it's because I want Elias but he doesn't want me back."

She laughed some more a bit maniacally, "I spend my days making up shit because I'm fucking bored and just adore being the center of attention. Or maybe it's the books, I'm always imagining crazy shit."

"Amaira-" Michael tried again, but she cut him off.

"You're my best friend," she started. "I thought you would believe me and take my side even if no one else does...but I guess I was wrong."

With that, Amaira stormed up the stairs and slammed her room door behind her. Her chest violently heaved up and down as tears stung her eyes; not because she was sad, but because she was angry and extremely frustrated.

Amaira took large strides over to her Stone family crime board where she posts information on the missing women last seen with Elias. She angrily yelled as she tore it apart and set fire to it in the middle of her room.

Amidst her tantrum, she felt a pair of eyes locked on her, but when she turned to look through her window, there was no one in Elias' room. She closed her window and pulled her drapes as she said to herself, "Don't even think about them, Amaira."

She gave up, she finally gave up on everything Stone family. The man she saw yesterday was a person she's never seen before, his masculine beauty was unparalleled and the dangerous aura he exuded was just the same.

Her mind and body screamed at her to not even think of him, but she couldn't help but be curious of who he was.

Amaira slowly poured a bottle of water on the dying flame as she said to herself, "I hope humanity remembers me in their last moment of survival. The crazy girl that believed her neighbors were vampires."

She laughed, "All those police officers and people who mocked me, I really hope I get to see their face during that time or at least get to watch them die."

A loud knock interrupted her dark thoughts and she yelled, "Michael, get the door!"

The knocking persisted and Amaira groaned in annoyance before trodding down the stairs. She looked around, "Where the hell is he?"

Amaira opened the door and furrowed her brows when she saw the unfamiliar brunette at her door. "May I help you?"

"Uh yes," the woman started. "I'm Olivia."

"The babysitter," the woman added hoping Amaira would pick up on who she was, but the clueless expression on her face spoke volumes.

Olivia brought her hands to her temples, "Oh my God, this isn't the Stone family's residence is it?"

Amaira shook her head, "No, sorry."

Olivia hit her forehead, "I'm such an idiot. Do you by any chance know where their house is?"

'I might as well save one person's life', Amaira thought before saying, "It's on the other side of the street, go back on the main road and take a left instead of a right. Their house is the third house from the grocery store."

"Thank you so much, you're a life saver," the woman thanked her before rushing off to the car parked in front.

Amaira closed the front door as she mumbled to herself, "I literally am a life saver, I just saved you from being vampires' breakfast."

"Who was that?" a masculine voice questioned from behind her.

Amaira turned around and confusion took over her features when she saw the state of Michael. Leaves and twigs were everywhere on his body and in his hair, he looked like a very dirty and confused mess.

"Someone had a wrong address." Amaira started picking the leaves from his hair, "What happened to you?"

"I don't know," Michael honestly told her. "But when I came to my senses, I was at the top of the tree in your backyard."

"Did you see or speak to anyone after I left?"

"After you stormed up the stairs?"

Amaira rolled her eyes, "Yes."

"I spoke to a delivery guy." Michael pointed at the box on the small table by the door, "He dropped that off for you."

"But I didn't order anything," Amaira muttered to herself, before saying, "What did he look like?"

Michael shrugged, "He looked like any other delivery guy."

Amaira folded her arms, "That's not a description."

Michael sighed and began walking away, "He didn't look like a vampire, is that enough for you? They're all you seem to care about anyway."

"That's not fair."

"No, you're not fair," Michael argued. "You're supposed to be my girlfriend, but we never hang out or even go on dates, why? Because you're always busy keeping an eye on the stupid vampires that don't even exist!"

"Where are you going?" Amaira yelled after him as he stormed away, but her question went unanswered as she only heard when a door slammed and running water.

She sighed, "Great, now he's mad at me too."

Amaira took up the large, flat box to test its weight, but it wasn't heavy at all. She looked at the name on the box and though Michael said it was sent for her, the name on the box was Anabel Stone.
