Chapitre 43: THE 1ST GOD (PART1)

Joda followed the assistant past the horde of fighters and into a small passageway that led straight to the north holding room. The room was big and shrouded in semi-darkness. Right Infront of Joda, the door leading outside to the arena stood in all its rusted glory.

And the wall to his left and right displayed the mounted weapons that the gladiators were expected to choose from. There were no armors but Joda did not care. All his attention was on the shiny pieces of shaped metals that the room held in abundance.

There were all sorts of weapons that had been arranged according to the range they gave the user. The long weapons had their own section of the wall whiles the short ones also had theirs. All the weapons looked shiny and extremely sharp, with an exception of the shields, gauntlets, and the poles.

It was evident that the colosseum had some master weapon-smith among its workers and that the weapons were more valued than the actual humans that used them, judging by their pristine and beautiful look.

"Pick your weapon of choice and wait for your partner." The assistant that had led Joda there informed him and made to walk out.

"Wait...did you just say, partner?" Joda asked and the man nodded.

"What do I need a partner for?"

"To fight the team you'll be facing from the south gate." A different voice answered Joda's question and from another gate different from the one he had come from, a new man entered the holding room with a serious-faced female behind him.

The female gave Joda a once-over that everyone noticed, including Joda before making her way to the weapons rack and picking a katana from the sword section. She rolled the handle expertly between her fingers, moved across the room Whiles performing some hypnotic slashes that seemed more like a dance than an attack and right Infront of everyone made a quick slash through the air that produced a sound like a strung whip.

Joda's mouth fell open in surprise as he gazed at the pitch-black-haired, oval-faced beauty who obviously was more than just a pretty face. The woman winked at Joda and then nodded at the man she had followed into the room.

"Her name is Aia. She's a wanted assassin in the Samurai empire. And as her skill with the sword shows, she's very dangerous. She'll be your partner in this fight which is a tag team match. Your goal is to eliminate the other team members before they eliminate you. I know you're scared boy, but stick close to Aia and you'll be fine." The second assistant told Joda. Once again, mistaking his frail outlook for incompetence.

"Alright" Joda replied simply and also headed towards the weapons mounted on the walls. He took his time to look through all the types of weapons he could see. His hand-to-hand combat skills were good so the gauntlets seemed like a good choice at first glance. At least, until he remembered what the first fighters had faced. He couldn't hope to defeat a lion with his bare hands so that was it for the gauntlets.

A sword was good as well seeing that his swordsmanship was just as good as his hand-to-hand skills. And a little cutting edge was bound to be good in close quarters but still, there was one weapon choice that beat all others. It had the range that the ex-prince needed. A cutting edge. And a deadly missile-like ability that gave him a dangerous advantage over everyone else.

Joda picked a spear.

"SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, MEET THE TWO TEAMS THAT WILL BE BATTLING IT OUT FOR THEIR LIVES. EMERGING FROM THE SOUTHERN HOLDING ROOM, WE HAVE EINARCH AND GEORGE!" The officiator's voice blared outside and a thunderous cheer followed suit.

"You two are up next" one of the assistants informed Joda and his teammate just as the officiator mentioned their names outside.

The north gate rumbled as its mechanics allowed it to be lifted up so that the fighters could walk out. Aia took the lead forward and Joda followed her outside with his spear held tightly in his hand.

The crowd cheered them as they emerged from the holding room. It took a second for Joda's eyes to get used to the bright afternoon sun, and the next thing he did was to take a good look at their opponents.

Einarch was your typical Viking. Broad chested, average height, and a mousy brown hair. He wore the standard armorless clothing for raiders and held a simple wooden axe that spoke volumes about his financial situation.

George on the other hand was clearly a knight. He stood with a swagger that screamed nobility. Even in the windless arena, his presence alone seemed to command the air which was now blowing through his golden hair. His deep-set blue eyes mocked Joda even from the distance and as Joda studied him, the Knight swung his Mace back and forth before whispering something into Einarch's ear.

The Viking nodded and just then, the officiator signaled for the fight to begin. Rikiya and George dashed towards each other, leaving behind a trail of sand and dust in their wake that riled the bloodthirsty crowd up even more.

"I bet on that beautiful girl. She looks badass. I mean bad 'ass' " someone from the crowd told one of the bet collectors.

"Me too. I bet on that girl."

"What about the other two?" Someone asked.

"They won't be any fun. Just look at their pitiful stare-off" another person answered.

Meanwhile, in the special booth made for high-ranking officials, Orion had just bet a fortune on Joda's team winning the fight and another fortune on Joda finishing Einarch without help.

Everyone looked at him like a madman but he didn't care. He knew this was going to be his one chance to rake in the gold. After today, everybody will be watching out for his fighter which would make Future earnings pitifully small.
