Chapitre 13: 13

Under the shade of a vast tree I sat, staring at the clear blue sky draped with white clouds, my mind aflame and my head in pain, tears lingered at the corner of my eyes as I wept silently about the unfairness of life.

I had recalled but one thing, Old Elen's cane and the nexus of life... ok, make that two things I was able to recall. Sadly, I had forgotten all the words The Progenitor had said to me, a heaviness rested deep within me, instinctually I knew it was a promise, an oath I must fulfill in time to come, as for what it was I must do, I had nary a clue.

Old Elen's cane was a relic, from my recollection, even his face had become nothing but a blur in my memory, except for those gray orbs situated in his head for eyes, I couldn't for the life of me recall what it was he looked like. Still, his gray orbs I would keep with me, whilst I shared the details of his cane and the swirling galaxy of stars with the Patriarch.

A straight black cane, it had no crevice, no crook, but around it head and tail was inlaid multitude of brown feathers, from afar, they looked like dust cloud. Around the centre of the cane spun a cloud of gray white dust, it adhered to the surface of the cane like white cloud on clear blue skies. The cane was simple, yet mystical.

As for the Nexus of Life, it was simply just that, a swirling galaxy of stars with an aura so divine, so pure, incorruptible till the end of time.

Unfortunately for me, I received no reward for my troubles, the average looking Patriarch had given to me the ring of fortune wherein all the treasures of the Edel Family lay, unfortunately, it rejected me, it refused to even lay on my palms. Something about me kept driving it away, and so it was, the Patriarch got what he wanted, and I... sigh, I got nothing.

My spirit was absolutely down trodden, I felt betrayed and deceived, what sort of magnificently horrific joke was this? To promise a man fortune, fortune he can't obtain, fuck!! This was absolutely unfair!.

The Patriach had laughed and skipped in glee whilst I sobbed, he hadn't lost a single treasure to me after all, mum and dad where trying to give him a good beating when I walked away.

Sitting upright, I decided to take a closer look within me. It had only been a day since my revival, I should be having a sweet reunion with my family, but the truth was, except for mum who was a deeply emotional person, the rest of us, dad, Salvatore, myself and the little one weren't so emotional, as long as one of us was ok, that was enough for us. It didn't mean we cared not fit ourselves, we did, we just found it too stressful to be mushy with each other all the time.

Sitting cross legged whilst I contemplated whether or not I should do a clean sweep through my soul space and body, perhaps I could find the reason as to why the Ring of Fortune rejected me so thoroughly. After minutes of deep contemplation which mostly involved my mind wandering from the main subject to getting distracted by food, especially thoughts of mother's cookies, I decided at last to go find those pieces of heavens goodness, it'd do my disappointed spirit good, going a long way to cheer up not just my reborn soul, but my slowly adjusting body.

An out of body experience can be truly jarring, perhaps the Old monster had done something to me to ease the trauma I should be feeling from the moment of my reawakening, I didn't mind, better to be jolly than a tearing, whimpering, frightful mess, though I knew at the back of my mind that someday, I'd have to deal with the fact that I fucking died, lost my origin breath, almost had my soul flicker snuffed and was so close to losing touch with existence itself, I almost became just a memory, an image that'd stay with those who knew me. I'd have to deal with it all soon, but before that, cookies first.

Navigating through the many buildings and street to find where the fuck it was that I came from in my quest to acquire cookies left me even more dispirited than I was before, I was well and totally lost. There was no one around I could ask for directions either, it was as though I had landed in a ghost town. For some reason though, I was not worried in the least, I simply plopped down and released my net like perception to max.

It felt like I had suddenly acquired 360 vision covering a wide area, whilst it didn't help my case, it was still interesting to find out. What more, it felt like I could split my soul from my body, but considering that it was death who caused the first split, I was but inclined to give it a try, so there I laid till dusk came, neither worried nor stressed. Somehow I knew they'd find me, when they where done with their little squabble, they'd come for me, so I laid there, feeling the wind, feeling the earth, feeling my soul attune with my body, feeling myself become whole as my restless soul settled within the confines of my mortal flesh.

My soul had transcended mortality but my body had not, thus the limitations of this body slowly imposed upon my soul, as they both tried to find their balance, one limiting and the other expanding and strengthening, I drifted off into the embrace of sleep.
