Chapitre 3: Chapter Three

Alzie stared into the small grey eyes that stared back in horror. They both sat there panting as he held onto her dainty wrist. He thought she would be strong enough to make the jump. Since she had held onto him the whole way up. He pulled her up easily and set her down on the deck. At this time Cyro had finished climbing the robe and stood next to him. He nodded for Cyro to go ahead and pick the small female human up. As chief of the Verdant Clan he was able to go to the old ruins. There he would read about humans and look at pictures of them. From what he had gathered they were creature who cared deeply about their looks. However, they were they cause of the destruction of the world. It took centuries for the earth to grow again.

The radiation that covered the earth had caused the remaining humans to mutate. Now the earth was ruled by beats. It was forbidden to go near the ruins. As a chief it made it easier to sneak there from time to time to satisfy his curiosity about them. Now he had a living breathing human. She could teach him all about humankind, and how she survived everything. Some witch doctors compared humans to roaches. He thought they looked more like apes, but now that he held one. He could tell they were quite different. For one the only fur she seemed to have been on her head. Two she had a small nose. He didn't see how she could breathe with such a small nose. Then there was her size. The only Beasts he knew of that size were the Rodent tribes. First things first he needed to treat her wound. He foolishly thought her skin would not be the fragile and weak.

He looked down at her to see if she was alright. Her eyes sparkled as she looked this way and that. Her black hair made her eyes seem darker. Like storm clouds over the sea. Her skin was also white, except for the spots that were in random places of her body. Mostly on her face. He took note that the spots seemed to vary in size and darkness. He even wondered if they covered her whole body, or if there was some sort of strange pattern. Much like how they had their stripes and spots. For them, the color of their stripes and spots showed their strength and status. Only the chiefs had red. Those just below them were the warriors, hunters, and doctors. They had orange. The ones with yellow tend to be the gathers or farmers, some were even fishers. Cyro was an exception to this though. Even though he had yellow, his strength was equal to the warriors. He was also one of the lightest colored males. He was unique to their tribe and as such it was harder for him to find a mate.

"What's that?"

Before he could react, the human had leaped out of his grasp and ran to one of the giant lilies. She looked so insignificant compared to the flower and seemed kiddy like a child.

"I know it's a Lily, but what kind?" She excitedly asked. "I've never seen one so big!"

"It's a Forever Susan Asiatic Lily. It was gifted to us from the tangerine tribe." He kneeled next to her and touched the petal.

"It's beautiful," she whispered just loud enough for him to hear and gently touched the soft petal. He never saw the big orange flower as beautiful. Orange was a bit of a common color for him. "I especially love this dark red here. The contrast of it against the bright orange is really alluring." He wondered if colors like this existed back in her world. And if they did were they rare?

" What's your name?" He wanted to know everything about humans. How they saw color differently and how they lived.

" Mira." She smiled at him, her eyes seeming to shrink with wrinkles at the same time. "And you are Alzie, right?"

" Yes, though if others are around you may want to call me Alziemar. It is my ...." He paused to think for a second. He didn't know if she knew what a honor name was so he need to put it in a way she'd understand. "It's my respected name."

"Oh, ok. I'll try to remember that." She stood and waited for him to lead the way.

He looked her over, trying to find some way of telling her age. Her clothes were incredibly unique to him. She wore a big baggy piece of black fabric over most of her body. He could not tell what size she was. All he had to go on was when he held her. He did know her bottom half had to be a bit bigger than her top half. From her feet to her knees was tight black fabric. She wore them to protect her feet. When he stood up next to her, her head just barely reached his middle rib. He found himself wondering how something so small and frail had even survived this long. No claws and no sharp teeth to protect herself with either. He held his hand out to her and she hesitantly took it. Her fingers were so cold he wondered if she was sick. Weren't creatures with fur supposed to be warm. Her whole body felt warm when he held her, but her hands were ice cold.

He led her to the doctor's hut, which sat next to his. only the doctor and his hut were at the top of the trees. It was a decision made by the previous chief. One he did not like. He felt the doctor should be closer to the people. He was supposed to bring up moving it further down at the ceremony tonight. He worried over how the doctor might react to a human. He knew she did not support his interest in humans. She found it distasteful. He motioned Cyro to wait outside knowing it could get a bit intense and heated in there. The old lizard looked up and smiled at him. She was light brown like Cyro. Her once vibrant orange markings now faded. Her smile quickly faded when he moved Mira in front of him. Now a look of shock and disgust vividly showed on her face.

"Where on earth did you find that thing!" It was more a statement and less a question. Her old raspy voice shook.

"I found her in the Rodent tribes forest. She hurt and needs healing!" He gave her a gentle push forward.

"How am I supposed to heal a creature I know nothing about!" She was never one to soften her voice nor hide how she truly felt.

"It's just a scratch from one of my claws." He felt Mira back right back into him. Obviously frightened of the old woman. "She appears to have fragile skin." He rested his hands on her tiny shoulders and nudged her forward again. "Please, I believe we might be able to learn from her."

"If you weren't the chief, I would have thrown you out already. Is this an order or a request?" If he said request, he knew she would turn the girl away.

"An order." He stared her down to try and intimated her. He knew there was a chance it would not work but he had to try.

"Alzie, I help raise you. Put that loom away and go set..." She looked down her snout at Mira once more with disgust. "That thing on the bed over there." She pointed a chipped black claw at a bed on the far right of the room.

He tipped his head in thanks and nudged Mira over. This human female seems so gentle and small. It's no wondered Sklai scared her too. Some so gentle and soft should be protected and kept safe. She slowly sat on the bed, but when he tried to remove the black cloth, she immediately pulled away. She seemed reluctant to show what laid underneath the cloth. Her cheeks flared red as she hugged the material against her. When he tried again, she pulled further away and pulled her legs inside of it as well. He heard Sklai tsking away as he grew annoyed.

"We need to see the wound to treat it, please. There's a venom on our claws that can hurt you." He tried to lower his voice as to not further scare her.

"Perve." She harshly breathed out and pulled the shirt up just high enough to see the wound. She made sure to keep her chest covered.
