Jen removed the sweatshirt she was wearing and allowed cold water from the shower to run down her back like the internet told us. She took painkillers and decided to eat cereal before concentrating on the books she had to turn in by the next school day. 

Jen didn't know she was crying until I pointed it out. 

"You can't let any man treat you like that" I whispered to her.

"He is not always like that" She answered.

She quickly wiped the tears away. 

"You don't have to appear brave and tough all the time; it's not the only way to survive. They are people willing to help. People like me" I told her.

"How about you mind your fucking business and concentrate on your pathetic life, Amara? I will even make you a deal…you don't get up in my business and I don't figure out what you are running from!" She yelled at me.

"I am not running from anything" I whispered.
