40% My Were-Rex System / Chapter 12: Party(2)

Chapitre 12: Party(2)

Killian led Alex to the ballroom, expecting the girls to be inside.

The room was transformed into a celebration of all things Alexander Jackson! Streamers of black and Maroon, the school's colors, snaked around the large marble columns and balloons filled the sky. A banner reading "Congratulations Alexander" hung across the center of the room, reminding everyone present of the reason for the party.

Vikki even hired a small string quartet!

"It should be calmer here." Killian took the size of the crowd into consideration when he led Alex here.

Dozens of people stood in the room, far less than they had seen outside. Most of them seem preoccupied in their own conversations or standing along the sidelines observing various embarrassing photographs and sweet memories of Alex's childhood.

Jimmy may not have approved of the venue, but he wouldn't deny Vikki what she needed to provide a perfect party!

Alex was disappointed that he didn't see his friend's anywhere but was thankful that he finally recognized somebody at the party.

"Good evening, Principal Weber! I'm glad you're here, and I hope you're having a pleasant time!" He awkwardly attempted to sound more mature and extended his hand in an attempt to give him a handshake.

"Please, call me Joey! You aren't in school anymore, and if you play your cards right, you'll be blowing up soon!" Joey pushed Alex's hand to the side and pulled him in for a half hug,

"Congratulations, Alex!"

"See, that wasn't so bad," Killian chuckled. "People here want to meet you! Don't freak out."

"You're a new face, and you're associated with the Copperlands." Joey released Alex and looked toward Killian for approval. "You're bound to be going places, young man!"

[That's why he got promoted from the Middle School so quickly!]

[I bet he serves the Copperlands—like a thrall.]

"You're too kind, Joey," Killian interjected, stopping the increasing compliments.

'A thrall?' Alexander had heard the term but hadn't ever listened to Jimmy seriously.

"If you're ever looking for work, don't forget about us at North Central High!" Joey handed Alexander a business card, one of many he would receive tonight. "It's not glamorous, but we do let our night guards complete studies on their shift."

[He's basically a vampire's bitch.]

[He's hoping to impress them and be invited into the family.]

[You should really check out the knowledge center sometime.]

'Ah, that would explain a fair bit,' Alexander appreciated the system keeping the definition short since he was in the middle of a conversation.

"I'll definitely keep that in mind!" He slid the business card into his pocket with no intention of working as a security guard.

"I hope you enjoy the party, I'm sure many people are looking for me, and I've got a few friends to find. Keep in touch!" He gave Joey a much less formal "fist bump" and quickly left in search of Vikki.

As the evening continued, he found himself attracting more and more attention. At one point, he was sandwiched between the Mayor and a local actress attempting to offer him an internship over the summer; he didn't even know what the details were. They just wanted him to work around them!

Regardless of where he searched, though, he could not find Layla, Trent, or Vikki. He started to get upset before he finally snapped out of it, pulled out his cell phone, and slapped his forehead.

<Hey, we're outside by the band, where are you?> Layla had sent him a text message over an hour ago!

Alex rushed outside, where he found Trent dancing to hard rock music with a visibly intoxicated Layla.

"The party inside was so annoying; I forgot the ballroom is soundproof!" Alexander was embarrassed that he had been looking for the group so hard when they had phones. "Any idea where Vikki went?"

"No clue, she just disappeared! I assumed she went to find you, and you guys snuck off to her room." Trent was lost in his own world. He had been enjoying his time with Layla and the band. He would never take advantage of the tipsy woman, but he wouldn't say no to accompanying his attractive crush.

"Nah, I've been killing time with Killian and doing meet and greets... Are you guys enjoying the party? We've got food inside; you should come check it out." Alex was stuck in host mode and was concerned for Layla. She would need something in her stomach to help her sober up. "I'm going to go look for Vikki. Seriously, go inside and get some food."

Alex knew he could call Vikki, but he was afraid that he may have already dug himself a hole. He wanted to get away from the party for a moment and put forth the effort to find her.

He found himself wandering the halls of the mansion that he had walked many times. He had to

remember to thank Vikki's parents for this excellent opportunity. They may have been different, but he was able to meet a lot of people throughout the night, and he was grateful for that.

Alex hesitated as he approached Vikki's room—nervous that she would be upset with him—before he knocked on the door. He waited for what felt like an eternity, but no response came. He felt dejected. He had hoped that Trent was right; it would have been a lot more fun!

Not sure where to look next, he began heading toward the party in the ballroom in case she decided to seek him out inside.

The white halls began to meld together as Alexander lost himself in his own train of thought. He turned to head for the kitchen and get another drink as he pulled out his phone, considering whether he should just call her.

The anxiety of her being upset prevented him from hitting that call button as he noticed a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye.

'She must have been preparing this surprise for me! That ball gown and tied-back hair are just like prom night! God, she spoils me too much!' Alexander slowly snuck up behind his lover and gently caressed her waist.

Pulling her back into his chest, he whispered into her ear, "I told you I wouldn't forget you." and nibbled on her neck.

"Oh my, Alex! You've gotten brave!" a mature voice echoed through Alex's mind as he realized his mistake.
