"I don't see why we're discussing this. I'm sleeping in the same tent as Olivia. And that's final." Lyrika strongly said to the group as they sat around the campfire, trying to come to a conclusion on this madness.
"I don't think that's right." was the few words that Ameril brought to the table.
"Why?"
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Because…you have been travelling with her the longest. Surely someone else should be able to spend time with her."
"Wha-. What sort of reason is tha-... wait. I see what you're planning." Lyrika said with a smug face. "You plan to try and seduce her or something. Maybe even do things while she is asleep."
"No. I would never do something like that." Ameril sputtered with a blush on her face. "Well not the last part." she mumbled under her breath. "Anyway, if you sleep in the same tent, you will do the same things as well. You have already said that you are…together."
"Really. You think I would do something like that when you two are sleeping nearby. I think someone has a perverted mind."
"My mind is not pervert-. I just thought-. *sigh*.Okay, I guess even you would not do something like that. But still, I think I should-"
Olivia stood off to the side and inhaled sharply as Lyrika missed the hidden insult of how 'even she would not do something like that'.
The girls had been going at it for a while now and she really did not know how to jump in and stop it. She wasn't afraid mind you. Well, not completely afraid. She felt that it may be better to let these two work out some of the issues that she noticed had started to form between them. If they let everything out, they may sort out what they have been dealing with and might be able to start a friendship.
But as the talking continued, she really started to wish she brought a fourth tent. Even if it did remove the possibility of something fun happening with Lyrika.
Also, with what Ameril is saying, wanting to spend time with her in the same tent, she was worried how Lyrika would feel about that. Yet again, they had not found the time to truly talk about their relationship, but she was certain even just sleeping next to another beautiful girl would cause problems with whatever they had right now.
"If you two can not decided on who sleeps in Olivia's tent, then I can do it and you two sleep separately."
The stone cold gazes from both Lyrika and Ameril, as they slowly turned on the offender that was Philly, made her stick her nose back into her book. She knew now was a good time to stop talking, even though she hadn't been able to read the room a few times before.
Olivia would have to remember that gaze in order to keep her quiet going forward.
"Being new to the group does not mean anything. When Philly joined, she did not end up sleeping with her."
Olivia was tempted to bring up how that was because she preferred to watch rather than join. Although, she thought better of it, and it wasn't something she had fully confirmed. Well, the watching side of her was a given, but nothing said she didn't like to join. She did have a boyfriend before all this after all.
Putting that aside, by now Olivia had started to occupy herself with something else, namely playing with Felixia. They had kept the resident Zentora well fed and kept its thirst sated as they had travelled, as well as keeping it engaged whenever they took breaks. As she looked into the basket, it was strange to see how with so little time passing, Felixia had truly grown rapidly. It was not near the size of the adult that attacked them, but if anything, it looked like it was probably a teenager, and given the size of the basket, it was no longer a viable option for transporting it.
Reaching in to pull Felixia out, it almost touched the sides of the basket. This made her realis that they would have to let it roam free going forward. The problem, however, was how to stop it from just running off into the forest and being attacked.
Placing it on the floor, Felixia looked around in slight confusion. It then looked up at her, walked over and started rubbing its head and body against her leg where she was sat on the floor. Stroking its head she was rewarded with the familiar rumbling purr that they had all heard from Felixia before.
By now, Felixia was familiar with all of them. They were the only ones it knew. Hopefully that would be enough to stop if from running away for no reason, although, she had doubts about this. Intrigue and a need to explore might mean just being with them might not be enough stop it from doing so.
On top of this Felixia had not yet realised Felixia was its name. They had called it its name several times now, and provided treats when it looked at the person calling, but so far, it wasn't engrained yet. Given this, she wasn't sure calling after it would be enough should it run off.
The only temporary solution she could think of was to either keep it in one of the tents, or keep it on a leash of some sort which let it roam around the camp by no further. This would be the case until they trained it to come to them when called, realised its name and stuck by them.
Someone was always going to be on watch, so they could keep it company, but if it got ran off…well, she had no idea how they could catch it. Either way was risky, but she felt it would be better for it to be able to roam about, at least a little.
"I just feel that, as one who is not well versed with sleeping in the…outdoors, I should remain with Olivia. For some semblance of safety…and comfort."
But before she could do that, she needed to deal with the girls.
"Okay. Why don't you flip a coin." Olivia exasperated.
As she said that, she had expected either agreement or each of them saying that leaving it to chance was not something they would do. The confused looks that she received, was not what she expected.
"How would…flipping a coin help with anything."
"You know. You flip it and you decided on either heads or tails. Then whoever chose the side that is facing up, is the…winner."
"I am certain that coins do not have heads or tails on them. I have plenty of coins that can show this." Ameril said delivering the killing blow on her idea.
"Okay…" Reaching into her pouch, she grabbed one of the coins. It never really occurred to her to study them, it was more, the shopkeeper asked for two silvers…and here they are.
Now that she actually studied them, she could see on one face there was a symbol of some sort of creature that resembled a lion of sorts.
Turning it over she found…the exact same lion.
'Well, I guess that's out of the picture then.'
"How about, rock, paper, scissors."
She brushed past the same confused looks from before and just went ahead and explained the game to them, and after a short while they were at it.
"So, we shall make it best of three."
The girls got started, and the atmosphere was tense. Although, Olivia was the only one to feel it. Philly had headed into one of the single tents to probably get more comfortable as she wrote, waiting for them to sort themselves out so she could take first watch.
But while the situation felt tense, given the reward that was at stake was her which she didn't let go to her head, the game itself was poor.
Three rounds and the girls both drew the same hands.
This was followed by them both looking at her wondering what to do, as it would seem they were not too familiar with the concept of best out of three. If you didn't play much in the way of games that used such a phrase, why would you. They probably saw it as whoever wins the most out of three games, regardless of if you ended up drawing.
So, while Olivia could have kept them going, a sneaky thought came to her mind. Something that may help them figure things out.
While it would mean no…fun would happen for herself, not that she would have anyway, given they were in such close proximity and all, it may keep them from being at each other's throats in the future.
"You drew three times. Well, I guess that means you both share the big tent."
"Wai-"
"Wha-"
"Goodnight."
Quickly heading away and over to her pack, all she heard was stunned silence. They both clearly wanted to dispute this, but they could tell that Olivia was adamant about this.
Several seconds later, grumbling followed, with the sounds of shuffling feet as the girls headed into the larger tent and hopefully, stop arguing long enough to fall asleep.
This left Olivia time to grab some rope from her pack, along with a sturdy piece of wood from a nearby tree. Using her Orc strength, she forced it deep into the ground, and then tied the rope to the top of it. She even gouged a hole in the top of the branch to force another piece through, ensuring the rope could not slip off the top.
For the other end of the rope, there wasn't much option on what could be done. She didn't want to put the rope around Felixia's neck as that would hurt something horrible given the abrasiveness of it and might even choke it. So, she needed a collar of some sort.
As Lyrika came out from her tent and saw what Olivia was doing, she fastened some cloth around Felixia's neck. She layered the cloth three times to make sure it was strong, and then tied it in a knot so that it could not get tighter if it was pulled. Then, she attached the rope.
Felixia looked at her with confusion the whole time she did this, but once it was done, didn't really care that it had happened.
As Olivia headed off to her tent, she saw Felixia wander around and then head towards Philly, who stroked its head as she looked around.
Olivia, very proud of herself, both from dealing with the girls and Felixia, closed her eyes and took a well-deserved rest.
Hi All, I hope you like the next chapter. Things are widning down for the girls as darkness sets in, but that does not stop the drama. Now though, we shall have to see if Olivia's idea solves any problems, and how Felixia deals with it's new temporary accessory in the next chapter.
Please let me know your thoughts on the chapter.
