Chapitre 10: Mana
Without having anything to do, Karl tried to bring up the free manual for the basic usages of mana that the system gave to them.
He said out loud, "System, bring out the manual about the basics of using mana."
Immediately after, the system window appeared in front of him. In it were the knowledge containing the basic knowledge of mana.
[Mana is simply a new form of energy that is present everywhere in the world. But mana is only present in the evolved worlds. Your world was underdeveloped before this whole thing happens and with time, it's now ready to evolve. That's why mana is starting to appear in your world and it will cause a massive change to your world and especially to all of you living beings in it.]
[Just like air, mana can be taken in by any living things. Due to the new kind of energy in the air, humans will experience heavy weakness and some pain while adapting to mana. The general consensus is that people who have a strong body will adapt faster due to the fact that mana is a type energy that is much stronger than what you humans are used to, that's why people who have a strong body can adapt faster. As for what are the effects it has on other types of organisms, you'll have to find out yourself.]
Karl's eyebrows rose up when he read up to this part. He thought, 'Doesn't that mean strong humans have a big advantage since the start?'
Then he frowned as he remembered all the times when Jannah shared her novels to him sometimes. 'But according to Jannah, having a strong body doesn't mean your invincible. This mana is so confusing it hurts my head.'
[Now, since your body has adapted to mana, you are now a little bit stronger just with that. But that doesn't mean that you can already use mana to gain supernatural powers.]
'As expected, it wouldn't be that easy.' Karl shook his head and continued reading.
[In order to use mana, the usual requirement is to have it in the first place. But that is harder than what you think. If you try to gather mana recklessly (which you don't know how in the first place) your body will get hurt instead since it only adapted to the mana outside, not inside of your body.]
[So in order to do this, the solution is on your current stage right now which is the 1st stage. In this stage, the main purpose is to temper your body by taking in the mana around you slowly by focusing on your breathing, then circulate it inside you to strengthen your body. This way, your body will become strong enough to endure the mana that you will store in the future.]
'Ohh? Quite simple if I'm gonna say so myself. Though this is only the basics."
[To make it easier to check your progress, all the stages are split into 4 sub-stages which are: low, middle, high, and peak. The low sub-stage ranges from 0% - 33%, the middle is 34% - 66%, the high is 67% - 99%, and finally the peak stage for the full 100% of your current stage.]
[As you might have already known, the higher stage you are, the more difficult it is t advance. And in order to get to the next stage, you must achieve the process of breakthrough. For you to breakthrough, you need to have at least got to the high sub-stage of your current stage.]
[That is all for now and thank you for listening in to the manual. To know more about the next stage, you need to first get at least high sub-stage of your current stage.]
"...why do I feel like someone is actually talking to me..." Karl was left speechless at the last message of the system.
Shaking his head to rid of useless thoughts, he contemplated about all the knowledge he gained from the system.
While he was thinking, he suddenly heard shouts coming far away accompanied with the growls of various animals.
Turning his head, he saw a group of people escaping from a bunch of dogs. Karl narrowed his eyes and look at their direction, most specifically the dogs.
There were three dogs that looked exactly like the wild dogs you would see on the streets. But what caught his attention the most is their eyes and behavior.
Their eyes were red and the way they chase the group without any care in the world, even if they got hit, even if they hit each other in the process, they relentlessly chased and lunged at the group and tried to bit them.
What used to be normal dogs were now turned to...
"Monsters." Karl whispered to himself.
On the outside, he was frowning and deep in thought, but his heart... no his whole body is burning. Burning in increasing lust. The lust for battle.
Intense battle intent appeared in his heart, which he let it run wild inside him because he knew in his heart that he's also excited.
Excited to know that there will be new enemies he could take on. To satisfy the bloodlust within him. To grow stronger. But most important of all, to fight.
'But not right now.' Karl thought as he took a deep breath and calmed the rising battle intent within him.
"We have things to do." Karl said to himself. He was about to head in the car to hide from the group's eyes when he suddenly had a thought and a glint flashed in his eyes.
"Time for an experiment."
He hid himself from the group's vision and unhesitatingly took out his gun and attached to it is a silencer.
Karl pointed the gun towards the dogs that were about to lunge again and not even a split second later, fired exactly three shots.
The bullets flew at a speed nearing the speed of sound and tore through the three dogs head. They immediately dropped down on the ground and continued to roll due to their momentum.
The group of people looked shaken as they saw the rabid dogs that were chasing them just earlier suddenly fell to the ground, dead.
They all looked around for a few seconds, trying to look for the one who killed the dogs. But seeing no one in sight, they decided to just flee from the place immediately.
Karl came out of hiding and looked at his gun and said to himself, "It looks like this will still stay useful. For now at least."
Turning his head towards the house, he muttered, "Anyways we should really get going now. Haaah, why are they taking so long. Are they that mad?"
Just as he said this, the girls returned with their faces back to normal and acting normal as they walked hurriedly towards Karl who was waiting by the side of the car.
Karl looked at them and said confused, "What took you guys so long?"
"I couldn't find it."
"Took me a while to look for it."
"I didn't really know where to look for it."
Sophie, Lucy and Jannah said calmly and respectively, showing not an ounce of their feelings.
'Who are you lying?' Karl thought as he sighed. "I really hope that you guys aren't mad at me."
"We're not. Don't worry about it because we know you're doing it for our safety." Sophie said with a gentle smile, to which the other two nodded.
Then that smile turned to a serious look as she said sternly, "But that also applies to you young man."
Lucy said with the same serious look, "We know what's on your mind Karl. I'm sure your quite excited about this aren't you?"
Jannah put her one hand on her hip and other pointed it to Karl, "We will stop you from doing stupid things big bro. And you don't have the right to refuse."
Then all three said at the same time, "Got it?"
Karl smiled bitterly as he raised his hands in surrender, "Got it."
After that, all of them smiled at each other till Karl said.
"Ok enough with that. Let's get going already. I'm really starting to get worried for auntie because of those...things or as what Jannah said, monsters."
Karl pointed to the dogs he killed, and when the girls eyes turned towards it, their eyes widened as shocked looks appeared on their faces.
Then all of them just nodded at Karl's words and together, they got in the car and soon drove off.
Of course, Karl didn't forget to did what he said as he threw a rock at a car that triggered the alarm.

(Just wanted to try adding them, even though they looked like shit.)
Not a second later, Karl said, "Let's go." and when he saw the girls nodding at him, he stepped on the gas pedal and drove off, leaving behind the chaotic mess he left, one that he wished would save some lives.
