Chapitre 14: Chapter 14: Day Two

I awoke to the sound of rattling at the door before hearing the snap of the lock as it clicked open. I watched the knob twist, expecting Ruby to walk into the door.

“Ruby told me to tell you to be ready in five minutes,” David said timidly as he stood there awkwardly.

I crawled out of bed, standing up and he took a step back, eying the door.

“I won’t run off this time,” I said, giving him a small smile that only made him more cautious. I went over to the shelf, grabbing clothes and going into the bathroom. I changed quickly before coming out, surprised to see him still standing there.

“Did they send you here to watch me?” I asked incredulously, noticing how he was standing directly in front of the door as if he meant to block me out. Why would they send a child to guard me? Or maybe the point was to send a child because I wouldn’t possibly attack a child, right?

He nodded.

“You can relax. I’m not going to escape yet,” I assured him.
